Speculation: 2013 Offseason Thread Part VI: Buyout Season

Couple of bottom-6 players I think the Rangers should look into:

Boyd Gordon
Raffi Torres
Mason Raymond
Ryan Jones

Raymond is a real possibility IMO with AV here.. Torres gets suspended for every hit pretty much, I'd rather someone who stays on the ice. How do you get suspended for the whole playoffs, how stupid can you be?

I actually want Stalberg more than Bickel, he will be cheaper and he would look good on a line with Callahan or Kreider, etc

As long as they can play hockey I'd explore it.

I'm not game to move a ~10 goal scoring winger on a one year commitment for a grinder on a 4 year deal, though.

Pyatt is incredibly invisible most of the time. Tootoo is more than a grinder, as you know. He brings a whole new element to this team. He crosses the line sometimes. Oh well.

I like Nystrom, but he's not really an upgrade for us.

He is easily an upgrade over Pyatt, Powe and Asham. He is a superb PKer. He fights. He is a very effective forechecker. He is a pot stirrer. He brings energy. Gregory Campbell-like player.

That hit wasn't even a legitimate suspension, imo. Stoll needs to keep his head up.

Ugh, Dorsett will get murdered. Not enough skill to be a skilled team. Not enough grit and toughness to play that way either. Lots of speed though on the wings.

I think Flip gets 5+ million. Same with Weiss.

I wouldn't mind Stalberg OR Raymond. I would rather Raymond.

They need to bring in guys who can muck it up a bit and wreak some havoc.
I agree I think Flip gets paid well. I don't know about $5 million+ though. I think around $4 million, even in this market. I don't think Weiss gets $5 million. I think he also gets around $4 million. Too many injuries and imo average numbers throughout the years. I know he has been stuck in FLA but just not impressed enough to see him get around $5 million.

I disagree, I'd want both Stalberg and Raymond. I know we lose out on grit, however, that speed would allow us to have 4 lines that each have at least one guy who can beat opposing defensemen to the puck. Both players have gone through the rough and tumble of a playoffs so they know what it means to take a hit. I am not worried about their toughness.

Really want Raffi Torres to be Boyle's wingman like he was Malhotra's under AV.
I think if you end up with only one of stalberg or raymond, because I truly believe sather will sign one, if we trade Pyatt, Torres is who I was thinking for the 4th line with boyle and dorsett. Over fedotenko and latendresse. Veteran tough guy who knows how to get under the opponents skin.

Stalberg has been benched by Chicago in this years playoffs.

Flip has been rumored to be asking for 5+ million from Detroit. That is the market. If he gets 5, Weiss will be around there.

Want both stalberg and raymond. But I disagree about Torres. BB is right in what he says below about the hit.

On Clowe - I think his demands will be reasonable, and if not, then they need to find a way to integrate more sandpaper into the top-9 in some other form.

On Briere - He is very injury prone. That is a major issue and he is undersized. On top of that, he can't play center anymore. I have a feeling he will be overpaid by someone. I also hate him......

On Pyatt - I think there would be a team out there willing to move a later round pick for him considering the absolutely crappy UFA options available.

At least you are honest.

Clowe should get no more than 3M/year.
I agree with everything else.

And there have been times in the playoffs when stalberg has been an impactful player. You don't sign stalberg to play in your top 6. You sign him for your bottom 6. I can live with him not producing consistently because of what he brings to the table. I think he would be fine under AV.

And if that's the case, which could very well be true, than pass on both. Save the money for next year's FA.

Sign guys like stalberg and raymond to 3 year deals with lower cap hits.

Thats the point though isnt it? He's regarded as a dirty player so anything close seems to go against him whether its legit or not. I dont want someone like that if he can't stay on the ice

Yeah, top 6 need a little more grit. If Clowe is not the answer, they will have to come up with a solution.

I try to be!

I would do 3.25 for 3 years pretty easily.

And that's fine, except the LW depth then becomes Hagelin, Kreider, Stalberg, _______. That's incredibly ugly.

Torres on the 4th line would be a waste. He's a very strong even strength scorer.

our LW depth is ugly already. thats why we need a legit #1LW. Thats what I would try to move Del Zotto for.

I know I post one of these everyday but it is so damn fun.

Buyout Richards.

Move Boyle to the wing, sign Boyd Gordon for 4C and Weiss and Raymond for the 3rd line.

Trade Pyatt and Asham for picks.

Sign Briere if available.

Nash Stepan Briere
Kreider Brassard Callahan
Raymond Weiss Hagelin
Boyle Gordon Dorsett

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Del Zotto
Moore Stralman

Zucc is missing and I'm not sure he fits in if we sign Briere. It's one or the other IMO.

So do other GMs. That's why I'm hoping Torres' price will be too low for what he brings. He was traded for a 3rd at the deadline, which is ridiculous.
