What about Staal, maybe a small + to Colorado for #1 + O'Brien? We pick MacKinnon, they get someone to play with EJ. Colorado gives us their 2015 2nd if he resigns, we give our 2015 1st/2nd conditional on if he signs in Carolina as a FA.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-MacKinnon
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Del Zotto-Stralman
Moore-O'Brien
Eminger

Colorado wouldn't give nearly that much for Staal.

Aside from buying out Richards, I don't think it'd be necessarily a bad thing if the Rangers stayed with their current team. It's not a bad team. Well-rounded with depth and an elite goalie to back-stop everything. It hasn't gotten it done in the past, but that was under different coaching and, frankly, every season brings new things. Especially when you have players as young as the ones on this team.

I'd buy out Richards due to the injury risk of amnesty buyouts and stand pat for the most part.

Fixed.

Yeah sorry forgot you guys don't like that term.

There were talks of Yak for Staal, why not Mac? Colorado needs defense but won't select Jones.

Because Yakupov for Staal didn't happen and even if it did Edmonton isn't Colorado. Colorado isn't in a position to be trading away top draft picks. They need the players that will come of it.

If Colorado really does want a d-man then they would just select Jones rather then trade for Staal. If they want a forward they'll just go with Mackinnon.

The Rangers simply have to stop signing FA's over 30 years of age. The track record is clear and it is terrible. Instead the organization should look at needs the organization has and make trades accordingly.

I posted above the need for a big, physical winger with a lot of offensive upside. Trade for one of these players:

Shawn Matthias
Marcus Foligno
Charlie Coyle

We would need to give up an attractive player with proven capability. Maybe a pick as well. Painful but necessary.

Colorado doesn't need another center unless Stastny is moved. Pretty unlikely, since Sakic took the reins. I doubt they pick Drouin/Barkov/Nichushkin with their original pick instead of trading down. And there's a bunch of news stories about Colorado not going to pick Jones.

Del Zotto for Coyle + Brodziak.

If they want to trade down, which they shouldn't have to even if they want a d-man since Jones is right there, then it'd be more likely they trade with a team higher up in the draft rankings like Florida. To draft a d-man.

These next two weeks will be very busy. The Cup finals will be ending by tomorrow or on Wednesday. The draft is next Sunday. Rangers have prospects camp next week. Free agency and the new league year begin on July 5. Most of the players will be signed by the 6th or 7th.

The Rangers don't have their 1st and 2nd round picks. They have three 3rd round picks at #65,#75 and #80. The NFL teams use a chart which attaches a numerical value to each pick. The NFL has 32 teams while the NHL has 30. Same concept. Its an NFL chart. NHL teams don't really use this chart.

Trading #65 and #75 has a value of 480. Pick #42 is 480. The Rangers should be able to get into the mid-second round with #65 and #75.

Scrivens, 2014/15 2nd rounder and Frattin for Jonathan Bernier.

Good trade for Nonis. Good trade for Lombardi.

Bernier to Leafs

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have acquired forward Matt Frattin, goaltender Ben Scrivens and a second round draft selection from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Jonathan Bernier, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced this morning.

Frattin this past season played in 25 regular season games with the Maple Leafs. He recorded 13 points – including seven goals (three of which were game-winning goals) – and he enjoyed a plus-six rating. During the playoffs, the first postseason action of his career, he played in six games and recorded two assists. He also this past season played in 21 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League during the NHL lockout.

The second round draft selection acquired by the Kings as part of today’s trade will be in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto’s option).

Bernier joined the Kings when the club selected the netminder in the first round (11th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 62 career regular season games with the Kings (plus one postseason contest) and had a 29-20-6 record, a .912 save percentage, a 2.36 goals-against-average and six shutouts.

AV said he likes two scoring/offensive lines,a two-way line and an energy line. He made that comment on Michael Kay's show. AV also said he knows the Hawks and Bruins teams very well. Vancouver and Chicago had some epic games. Vancouver played Boston in the finals. Vigneault is good friends with Julien so he knows that team very well even though VAN didn't see Boston that often. Those teams are sort of built in that mold. Chicago has a fourth line built around Kruger and Frolik. Boston has Campbell and Paille. Those aren't "energy" players but all of them can skate and play the game. Dorsett will be very good in that role as "energy" line guy but he is more than an "energy" guy. He can play the game too. Boston really misses Campbell in the finals. Their bottom six is out of whack. Kruger had 7 NHL games before he cracked the Hawks line-up for good. Boston has Kelly on the 3rd line. Chicago has Shaw who didn't see much time in AHL before making the Hawks in 11-12. Both Kruger and Shaw played in the AHL during the lockout. AV also discussed player development. He said the Sedin twins were 25 and Kesler was 22 when he became the Canucks coach. The Rangers will need some more player development to achieve their goals.

I like the sound of that.

i think DZ stays and i actually think clowe gets resigned to a 1yr 2yr deal max.. hes injury prone yes.. but i think he still a lot of what this team needs up front, especially in the top 6 to counter a tough boston team.. and it gives us a ton of flexibility going into 14' free agency when we can go after kessel, pavelski, stasny, brown to name a few..

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Brassard-MZA

Hagelin-Miller/Lindberg-Callahan (I like this especially bc thats where they should play)

Still don't understand why people want a puck possession player like Hagelin playing in a 3rd line role especially with the chemistry he has with Stepan and nash

He's a perfect 3rd liner, he will move up here and there too. Rather go Stepan, brassard, Nash, cally, Kreider or zuc and sign a clowe for 2 yrs 8 million

Boyle n Dorset are 3rd n 4th line guys. Asham, powe, Haley , dump Pyatt . Same team different style

He's a perfect third liner on a team that clearly has 6 players ahead of him. We don't

Because Hagelin the third line = depth.

Hagelin will probably start in the top-6, but hopefully Kreider will push him down.

I think, to increase a player like Hagelin's effectiveness, you put him in a position where he can go all out every shift. 13-15 minutes. He may be a fitness freak, but some games this season he played 22 minutes. As a player who made his name gunning around the rink, that is a lot to ask.

bc having a more balanced lineup is ideal...

i dont look at him as a 3rd liner but i think he could benefit the team more.. it gives not just 2 scoring lines but 3..

plus we need kreider who is way more suited in a scoring role and he has the higher skill level potential that would make him ideal and scary on that line..

Hey, if Kreider can perform with Steps and Nash, fine with me, but right now at the moment he's not someone to put that hope into right off the bat

i really think that Lapierre and Nystrom will be signed by NYR

they would be a big upgrade over Asham and Powe..

Lapierre would make this team harder to play against and would add some speed to the lineup... he also kills penalties as well.. Mark Fristic is the type of dman i hope the Rangers target this summer.. someone with some grit and toughness, a mentor for McIlrath for whenever he makes the team.. Rangers should not put pressure on McIlrath as the only tough defenseman.. he is only 20 years old.

Kreider Stepan Nash
Hagelin Brassard Callahan
Zuccarello Miller Nystrom
Lapierre Boyle Dorsett

Girardi Staal
McDonagh Moore
Fristic Stralman

Del Zotto traded at draft hopefully

if we somehow got Marcus Foligno I'd scream like a girl. REALLY high on that kid.
