Saying these guys are ready before they've really had a chance to prove it isn't a good strategy going into the season. One of our biggest problems this year was that management assumed the Kreider was ready and he wasn't. These kids need to beat out vets or other kids for spots. They don't need to be assumed to be ready.

Sure Kreider wasn't 100% good to go on day 1.
But the Torts thing IMO, and I understand we agree to disagree, was legit basis of why he didn't stay with club and wasn't that much more ready by POs.

Poetic justice that now that mgmt realizes the need to ride the Kreider horse, coach Mr. Arrogant was fired.

Yes, some further development is in order, but I will be proven right on CK, and soon enough.

People that are against us relying on rookies, look at Chicago and Boston.

Both of them have multiple rookies playing for their team. It's an important part of a good team to have your rookies step up and play well.

Did I see on the main board someone thinks Min is making Patrick Konopka available?

Any reason not to want? 4C, fights like champ, strong, great on FOs.
Presumably they just need cap space.

Price?

Vinny L would be a tempting sign though, if he was bought out. The problem is NYR aren't in a position to give out more than a 1 year contract.

I know that's not his first name, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

I hope the Rangers sign Maxim Lapierre and Matt Cooke. The team needs to get tougher and annoying to play against. I could care less what these guys did in the past.

I could care, but I could care with an open mind.
However, are these our best options?

I mean, assuming it is feasible, and it may or may not be depending upon what the price is, but I'd rather get Duncan Siemens (another Doug Hamilton) and rely on that as part of our toughness than spend assets for Lap. + Cooke.

i dont want Cooke at all not even at on a tryout basis... i wouldnt mind Lapierre and Nystrom or trade for McLeod from Avs or someone like Fiddler from the Stars..

I wouldn't mind Briere for a year. Brass has worked pretty well so far, keep adding to the French Canadian connection

If Briere can play both wings he should be explored. MZA is another player wh can do that. However, if they ice a team with Briere, MZA, Callahan, Hagelin they better augment that with some more truculent options.

I would absolutely love Briere here on a one-year deal. Provided of course, that we can acknowledge that he will probably be almost worthless in the regular season. But I love him in the playoffs.

I have to wonder, would it be better to sign a player like Briere for 1 year or try to get an underrated player like Raymond or MacArthur for a couple of years at below market value?

I am dead serious though, if they think going into next season with Briere, MZA, Hagelin and Callahan in the top 9 with hopefully Nash and Kreider as the other 2, there bottom line better be rebuilt. Talk about soft.

Washington is another possible destination for Briere. He lives in Haddonfield, which is about a 90 mile drive from NYC. Only 50 more miles to DC. Not a huge difference. Washington is probably going to be looking for a replacement for Ribeiro. Briere seems right up their alley.

I'd prefer the latter.

For this reason. More turnover is not helpful, and I'd prefer balanced size throughout the lineup than giant lines and small lines.

He's more of a right winger at this point, really.

I wouldn't be opposed to Briere. Leave Nash at LW, throw Briere on the right side.

Perhaps...

Nash-Stepan-Briere
Hagelin-Brassard-Zuccarello
Kreider-Miller/Lindberg-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

That'd have to be the softest top 6 in the league.

I'm not against rookies, but Boston has 1 rookie with a regular spot in the lineup (Krug). The Blackhawks have 2 (Saad, Kruger). Thing is, all of those players beat out someone else for their spots. Krug came in after Redden and Seidenberg got hurt and has provided more than Redden did, so he stayed. Kruger and Saad beat out Morin, Mayers and Carcillo at the beginning of the season and never looked back. None of these guys were penciled into their lineups.

That's all I want. They have to beat people for their roster spots.

Can we really get them at below market value? I agree that we are better off perusing the bargain bin, I'm just not sure which players we'll find in it.

Agree that no one should be penciling them in, but Carcillo has been injured for over a year, and Morin and Mayers aren't exactly world beaters.
