Would be nice, wouldn't it? I'm still waiting for our star in-his-early-20's forward. Stepan is good, but not a a superstar.

We have to trade McDonnagh + Noreau with conditional future pick for #1 overall (McKinnon) + Siemens to do that! It's a gamble, but best chance to both improve overall D and get that stud 1C in a Tavares mold....

No way Grabo is bought out yet. Toronto will like to see if he bounces back, especially if they can't re-sign Bozak.

With the way the market is, I think Clowe will get paid his demands by someone.

I know the issues with Briere. That is why you only sign if the contract is reasonable. If not you move on.

Pyatt - You said move him for a tougher, quicker winger. I don;t think that's possible. I think it is more reasonable to get a mid round draft pick for him like you said.

I think the Rangers bring in Mason Raymond and put him opposite Callahan on the 3rd line. I also like Filppula and Stalberg as an option if they miss on Raymond.
I'd like to look at Elias, Connolly, and Koivu. Realistically I think you see Maholtra, Gordon, and Weiss
I think if you trade Pyatt, I'd consider Torres, Nystrom, Latendresse, and Fedotenko for 4th line LW.

My wish list would look like this for the forward corps with the Rangers buying out Richards (I am not considering the cap so bare with me):

Nash-Stepan-Kreider
Hagelin-Brassard-Zucc/Briere
Stalberg-Weiss-Callahan
Raymond-Boyle-Dorsett

Extra: Asham, xxx

I think if you get Briere, Zucc is let go.
I think if you don't get Weiss, you're better off having Richards stay one more year than signing Maholtra or Gordon for the 3rd line center spot.
Raymond and Stalberg add much more speed to the bottom 6 to get in on the forecheck quickly and complete all four lines. (I know I flip flopped stalberg and raymond)

I hope you guys are right, 'cause I don't see them getting anything for Pyatt.

simple solution to NOT have too much tied up in RW.. move Nash to LW where he played the majority of his career. Imagine that, we'd have a legit #1 LW AND a legit #1 RW and maybe even a legit #1c if Stepan continues what he did last year.

R u talking about Callahan, because again Nash was on pace for almost a PPG game last year and over an 82 game season

Nash couldn't play LW this year. It was strange moving Gaborik from his natural position instead of Nash, who has played LW before. I really did think we were getting a LWer in that trade, but turns out he is more comfortable on the right. Go figure.

Gaborik was that #1RW, but played out of position.

Nash having a PPG pace 2times out of his 10 yr career does not mean he's well worth his contract. A 7.8m player should be a franchise guy, not a complimentary piece like Nash who can't play a lick of defense.

I would agree if we have holes elsewhere, but where would we spend money?

Our center depth seems good. Stepan was on a 75 point pace this season. He could develop into a Bergeron type. Fine #1C. Brassard seems like the real deal in his time here. Perfect #2. We have Boyle. Perfect #4 that can move up if need be. Lindberg appears to be the perfect #3 for the future, and a decent #3 for this upcoming year.

Our D is pretty much set even with trading MDZ.

LD: McDonagh, Staal, Moore

RD: Girardi, Stralman, McIlrath

Every one of those except Stralman IMO is a part of our long-term core. I would love a top-flight RD to pair with McDonagh so we can reunite a Staal-Girardi shutdown pairing to start in the D-zone. Where would we acquire one? I would love to get Trouba out of WPG (as a Michigan student) and feel he would be absolutely perfect for what we need, but based on comments from WPG fans, he's pretty damn untouchable.

This leaves wingers. We need wingers with scoring ability. Someone with the balls to take a shot. Someone that doesn't disappear in the playoffs (Looking at you Cally, Nash). Who else could we acquire? Skinner? Not with his concussions.

an Alex Burmistrov is not going to be enough to help our problems.
I don't think Brassard is an answer for as a 2C for a team that wants to model itself based on center depth. He is not even remotely close to being the caliber of player David Krejci is, at both ends of the rink. Krejci can carry a line by himself and propel the play of his linemates. We have yet to see Brassard do that and it's not like he's spring chicken either. I think a better comparison would be Rich Peverely, a poor man's 2C playing the 3C role on a contender.

I like our defense depth too. The wingers are quite a problem as you said.

Its just amazing, you see the Bruins and they dont have one legit superstar (or who you would think of as one) and they are a GREAT team. Meanwhile we've had guys like Gaborik (40 goal scorer many times), Nash, Richards (conn smythe winner), Hank, etc, and we can't win a ****ing cup

Never underestimate the presence of Chara. The Bruins have probably the most dominant defenseman sans Lidstrom of this generation in Zdeno Chara and they've had him in his peak, Norris trophy years. Tim Thomas, a 2-time Vezina winner also suited up for that team. They've had Marc Savard, who used to be an elite 1C. Kessel is a top tier RWer who was on that team before Leafs trade. Bergeron multiple Selke nominee and 2012 winner. Krejci scored at a 70+ pt clip.

I think the notion of the Bruins not having high-end talent is underrating the skill level of their players.

The Bruins won the Cup without Savard or Kessel, so I'm not sure why you bring them up. Chara is a great point though. Our defensive depth is better, as a whole. Our forward group isn't quite there, but I don't feel like its far off.

we're not far off and when we were close we blew the team up not once but twice in the same year.. I think our d is there and obv goal.. fwds we need more up front.. a top LW and we're good to go..

BUt honestly we need Kreider to step up and be that for us.. A lot of stock is committed to him..

ppg in the playoffs? i didnt see his line carrying him very much. most of his points were primary assists. he carried his line and it was our only consistent offensive line throughout our 12 game playoff run. step was shut down by the other teams because he was seen as the primary scoring threat along with nash, then brass tore **** up throughout the playoffs. honestly i dont care what he did on columbus in his roughly quarter of a full season as a ranger i have seen a legitimate offensive second line center and until i see something from him in a NYR sweater that says otherwise he is our 2C.

These rule changes. I'm astonished.

1. Mandate visors.
Okay, fine. Don't want any more Staal Incidents.

2. An extra two minute penalty for removing your helmet before a scrap.

So...Either a bunch of broken hands, or enforcers (who are currently playing) playing without visors to avoid penalties. Makes little sense when the league wants to encourage wearing visors.

seems like these rules are more about getting fighting out of the game instead of protecting players like staal

The Bruins forwards are versatile and multifaceted. Even if they aren't scoring, they contribute in some other manner - some have speed, others are physical and/or can agitate, etc. And the Bruins have a great group of two-way forwards - probably one of the best if not the best in the league.

This season, the Rangers had too many one-dimensional forwards who didn't really bring much to the table if they weren't scoring. Richards, Pyatt, Zuke, Brassard, etc. Nash can be dynamic if he doesn't score, but even he's had periods where he disappears. I think the Rangers were a little more versatile last year. Even if Dubi, Anismov, Prust, etc. were not scoring, they were still providing solid defense, toughness, could PK, etc.

if hossa is bought up, which i think he will this summer or next.. would you consider signing him?

3yr deal 6m aav, assuming richards is bought out too

Interesting factoid, Rangers were bigger on average than the Bruins.
Having Pyatt and Boyle at 6'4 and 6'7 sure helps, but they are bottom 6. Outside of Nash, our top 6 are average to smallish.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard

This. That is why I want to upgrade on Pyatt, Powe and Asham.

Strachan would be interesting as a #6 or 7.

Glencross would be awesome for this team but he will cost a lot. LWer which is a need. I have been pimping Nystrom because of his versatility and aggressive play. Great skater.

They need to upgrade on Asham. Let Dorsett play on the 3rd line or upgrade the 3rd line RW. McLeod is mainly a LWer. Need a RW option like that.

Let Miller or Lindberg play 3c. Goc won't be available. I doubt Florida moves such a good underrated player.

Trade MDZ for a very good return only.

If we have a 3rd line of Raymond-Lindberg-Hagelin, we are in for a treat next season.

Clowe with Brass and Cally. Step with Nash and Kreider. Boyle with Nystrom and Dorsett. This should be out team going forward, realistically.

If so I bet we're in for him, just as good fit like Richard was at the time but hopefully he doesn't start playing like a bum as soon he signs for NYR.

Is the Hawks in cap problems this summer? Otherwise they will wait until next year but I'm sure they want to kill that contract.

I could get behind that very easily. Clowe, Nystrom, Dorsett. Tons of speed on the wings.

I am on board with Nystrom. I like that he can PK as well. We need more players in the bottom 6 that can kill penalties, Stepan and Cally already play a substantial amount at ES and on the PP so it would be nice to have the capability to ease their minutes on the PK.
