I can still see the Rangers signing Mason Raymond for AV's defensive line and add scoring depth and trading Del Zotto or Staal for another top 6 winger, which honestly I think is the way to go.

I am sorry Tawnos, but the quoted paragraph just does not say that the league can come flying and challenge the health of a player that claims to be healthy.

It's ridiculous.

kinda no way now to fit that salary in. Sather is going to make a trade or two. Honestly yrs of saying dont overpay in free agency and having little cap space is a bad thing?

I think Raymond and Lapierre are on the list but they can still be signed with a move or two. I expect one of DZ, Staal dealt for a RD. Boyle and Pyatt wont be around either

Miller, Fast, Lindberg are big parts of the future. Once Boyle, Asham, Powe , Pyatt are dealt or off the books these guys can step in. Need some time in the AHL though

If we were shopping Miller as part of a package for a young top 6 winger I wouldn't be too upset.

I'm a big fan of Miller, but we need some young skill on the wings

could just be trying to see whats out there, but Garrioch usually pulls stuff out of his ass, he's about as reliable as people claim Eklund is lol

Agreed. If he's suggesting we're shopping Miller, then it's safe to say Miller isn't being discussed at all by our head office.
 
so with Richards now staying, Rangers have 14M of cap space to work with for their own RFAs and some depth.. What do you guys think the RFAs combined will make?

Cap hits:

Stepan and McDonagh around 4 million each.

Hagelin between 2-3 million.

Lundqvist needs an extension as well. God knows what he will get. League max?

Approximately 11 million for the skaters. Lundqvist on his own 7+ million.

Richards not being bought out screwed us.

Edit: forgot Zuccarello. 2+ million?

Thats now about 14 million for the skaters.

Hank is already signed this year, the extension does not count towards this year. so that would leave around 3M in cap space with the potential of trades of bottom 6 guys or a defensemen.. still wiggle room to make the team better.
 
Miller isn't bringing back an established player by himself. Didn't live up to expectations? Just what were those expectations. Where Is the $ coming from to pay for this player. With Richards,the Rangers can pay their group IIs and not do much else. They need another D for depth. That's assuming Staal will be ready to go with no other issues. Leave $ to operate the team.

Thats right on Henrik.

IMO the best options to improve the roster, a combination of trading the bottom six guys and allowing kids to play there (Lindberg, Fast, Miller) and trading Del Zotto.

Yep I agree with this.. we have 2 (maybe 3) bottom 6 guys at the moment in Boyle and Dorsett. though if we traded Del Zotto for another top 6 guy, someone else gets pushed down to make (3) bottom 6 guys. does anyone think Miller should be a bottom 6 guy this year? not really sure he fits on the defense or checking line however.:laugh:
 
Puckrush, why the hell would the Rangers pay Hagelin and Zuccarrelo the same when Hagelin has clearly put up better #s? If Zucc gets 2M, they are stupid.

The reason might be as an anticipatory contract. The Bruins gave Lucic a 4 year, 16 million dollar extension long before he was an offensive player on the hope that he would develop into one.

But 2m per is a bit steep.
 
This is the biggest problem with keeping BR...

We have no moves... Or very, very few... And none seem all that appealing... To fans or possible trade partners unfortunately.
 
If Sather thinks that one more year of Richards is better than any free agent options, it's not the worst plan. Injury concerns are, quite frankly, a bit overblown.

I would still look at Mason Raymond for a 3rd line role.. I think he could be afforded and will give us alot more than Clowe did or would.

OK, that's a pointless argument. Players aren't allowed to claim to be anything, because they MUST be evaluated by a club physician. It's a requirement of the SPC.

Besides which, a situation similar the one you're talking about is given as an example of circumvention in the CBA itself. I'm on my phone, so I'm not going to find it right now.

Drury independently decided not to file for a medical exception, that he might not have gotten in any case, to his buy out. If Richards does that, fine. But there isn't a handshake agreement between him and the team. All interactions of that type are governed by the CBA. Do you really see the NHL or NHLPA allowing something like that? Saying "they'd never have to know" is simply delusional.

Agreed, I don't think its crazy to think they could sign say Raymond and Lapierre while dealing Boyle and Pyatt off the books. Sign RFA's. Likely deal a LD for a RD since they have 4 LD right now

not perfect but not bad. Have to remember the CLB F are still real new to the team. I dont think they should change over the team that much anyway. New coach is important and build chemistry

I just dont know if Zucc only gets 250K less than Hagelin.. What did guys like Josi and Voynov get again? could be a barometer of what Mcdonagh ultimately gets.
