Besides Stepan and McDonagh, what kids have made consistent/higher-end contributions?

Gaborik and Richards, for instance, were a big part of why last year's team was a #1 seed in the east. They weren't the answers this season, but somebody needs to be, and I don't think the solution is going to come from a few kids trying to find their way in the NHL.

Staal, Girardi, Callahan, and even Lundqvist were all "kids" at one point or another since the lockout and have been "high end" contributors for us. We've had the same discussions each year about kids stepping in. We had the same discussions about Staal and Girardi being important pieces on defense. Callahan was just a third liner until he broke out. Lundqvist was supposed to back up Weekes. We looked for Richards to be the #1C we've been lacking, and while he failed, Stepan took the next step.

It's not about getting a few spurts of meaningful contributions from FA's. Hell, even Gomez was useful in his first season here. We need players to consistently fill their roles, and the players who were developed by this organization continue to be those players.

If Lindberg is 75% of what we want from a 3rd line center next year, that's fine. If Kreider scores 18 goals over an 82 game season, that's okay. I think people get too caught up in immediate contributions.

That decision is never made - and if it is, it changes on a whim.

Derek Brassard has been a Ranger for about 2 months - not hes part of the core. All part of the master plan, right? Ha.

It became a fashionable thing to say that Torts never unleashed the offense. Well, Marian Gaborik and Ryan Callahan had their best seasons playing under Torts. Rick Nash was on a pace to have his best in years under Torts. Derick Brassard played some of the best hockey of his career under Torts (albeit in a limited sample).

And the team had it's best success in the recent future.

Stepan, McDonagh, Staal, Girardi, Callahan, Lundqvist, Del Zotto, Dubinsky, Anisimov, soon Kreider, Miller, and others, who all made their NHL debut as a Ranger in the last several years. Tyutin, Prucha, so on.

Don't pretend there haven't been contributions.

Im not.

Im insisting that they haven't been enough for a championship team.

What did Boston do with Kessel? They traded him for futures. Some people scoff at the mere mention of trading DZ for futures. Boston was a team which was upset in the 2009 playoffs by the Canes. Kessel wanted too much money and the Bruins were probably sick of him. They were still a good team in 2010. They blew a 3-0 to Philly. Freak loss. Boston won the Cup in 2011. Seguin didn't play much that first year. He had some great games in the TB series. Seguin is bigger part of the team now. Hamilton is in his first year. Growing pains. Boston didn't look at it at as Stanley Cup in the next few years or bust so we can't trade Kessel in 2009. They lost to the Caps in 2012. They didn't freak out and fire the coach. Trade away half the team. Now they're one win away from reaching the Cup finals.

Chicago is also one win away from reaching the Cup finals. Shaw. Saad. Kruger. Bolland. Frolik. Stalberg. The latter two were acquired in trades. No free agents.

Both teams have experienced professional coaches. Not on the job training. The Hawks already went the legend route with Savard and replaced him with Quenneville.

Brooks wrote the Rangers could be interested in Matt Hendricks

“I think it’s too early to tell. There’s a whole month left. Listen, George has told Matt numerous times that he wants him back; he knows what his value is. But wanting him back and paying him are two different things. Matt doesn’t want to leave, but he understands the business of it.â€

Hendricks, who turns 32 on June 17, recently completed a two-year contract that paid him $850,000 last season and $800,000 this season. He is coming off a season in which he led the Caps in penalty minutes [73] and fighting majors [7] and is likely seeking a contract similar to the one signed by Brandon Prust of the Montreal Canadiens last summer.

Prust, 29, made $800,000 with the Rangers last season and, after recording five goals, 12 assists and 156 penalty minutes in New York, he signed a four-year, $10 million contract with the Canadiens that carries a $2.5 million cap hit.

Chris Kreider isnt an NHL'er at this point as far as Im concerned. Hagelin is a 2nd/3rd line tweener.

These guys are core players?

He just finished his 21 yr old rookie Pro season. A little early to condemn a player, no?

Players don't need to be top line all-stars to be considered core pieces.

They need more offensive punch. I wouldn't say the team can't win with a handful of what it has. Let's see what they do this summer. The next few weeks-month should be interesting.

The only thing I fear is Sather being Sather.

I don't see how Chris Kreider, a non-NHLer is a core piece on this team, but to each one's own.

Ha! If the Rangers give that to Hendricks and not Prust I will be done with the team....

Prust is overpaid as it is, Hendricks at that price would be a disaster. With Sather's infatuation with over paying fringe fourth line goons, I wouldn't put it past him.

Can we please get Gorton in full charge already.

You can't criticize a player before his 24th birthday, unless that player is Marcel Hossa.

We know how highly Gorton, Clark, and the rest of management think of him. So its not as out there as you'd think.

Hopefully they new coaching staff can do a better job of developing him at the NHL level then Tortorella did.

Every scouting staff/management hypes up their prospects.

How exactly did Tortorella stunt Krieder's development? Kreider simply isn't good enough to wallow away a spot from a more deserving player in the top 9.

He was so strong along the boards though.

He yelled at him and expected him to earn his ice time through his play.

Kreider had some developing to do this season.
But are you saying he is a bust?
