What have you seen of Schenn that makes you want him more than Couturier? I haven't watched either, so my opinion is uninformed, but I was always under the impression that Schenn has mike richards lite potential but Couturier was something more akin to Zetterberg lite.

Couturier is a Primeau lite. Couturier can't carry Zetterberg's jock.

Can you imaging if Dom Moore, Zidlicky, and Eric Nystrom (10th overall pick in 2002 which was originally the Rangers pick that went from Florida to Calgary) all came back to the Rangers? Would they count as part of the homegrown core?

Zidlicky is an intriguing name for sure. I had not thought to think of him but he definitely has quite a bit of offense in him and he is pretty decent defensively. Depending on the price I wouldn't mind that at all.

Anyone want to sign Sanguinetti as a depth RD who can move the puck? He is a UFA. I wouldn't mind him as a #8 behind Eminger who is the #7.

We'd have to find some proof that Sanguinetti is better than Gilroy. If that's the case, then why not.

I think people are forgetting Couturier was 19 this past season.

Schenn is far more physical and flashy. Couturier seems to project as a solid #2 who is also excellent defensively.

We can do with as few dainty defensemen as possible.

If Sanguinetti has learned to use his body a bit in his own zone, maybe he can be a useful player. If not, he's like Gilroy; an offensive defenseman who doesn't produce points.

That's a bad second line. And I'm not giving up a 2nd for a fourth liner.

That 4th line could conceivably play 10 minutes a game, no problem, and evenly distribute the minutes for the season, thus keeping our players all fresher come playoff time.

Clowe is a great locker room guy, big time playoff performer (if only we could have seen it this year), and limiting his minutes to the 4th line would slow down his regression (thus keeping him effective and worth whatever salary we would give him... better be 2/3 years at 3 or under or I will not be happy).

As a #8 I wouldn't mind that type of player though.

He just came off a 3 yr 12 mill deal. 4 mill per seems steep. He seems to disappear during the playoffs. I'd rather stay away from him and Streit.

Can't resign Clowe and play him as a 4th liner. He will get 3.5+ easily. Too expensive.

Put McLeod in that spot and it is fine and they keep their 2nd rounder from next year.

I really like the idea of Nystrom and Moore as 4th liners. Tenacious on the puck, add some offense, hit, PK. They would be ideal.

Except he won't be asking for 4th line money.

If they move MDZ they need someone to come in who can move the puck and help the PP. 9 points in 24 games in the playoffs? That's not disappearing. He's a defenseman.

I would give him 2.5-3 for a couple of years. He would help for sure and he would fit well with all of the defensive dmen thenRangers have. Would be cheaper than Streit.

Undoubtedly cheaper than Streit but who is replaced if/when McIlrath is ready?

I'd think that Moore + McDonough would be able to be the puck moving defensemen. Both have those capabilities but never practiced them under Torts.

I'm not forgetting anything. Age doesn't magically turn Couturier into a player who relies on offensive skill, and from what I've seen of him, his offensive skill-set isn't very impressive. He's elite defensively at 19, which is very impressive, but I don't think he's going to be more than a 45-50 point player with the right line-mates.

He has offensive skills. He has the hard part already down and as he gets more comfortable his offense will come out. He shows flashes every now and then.

Lindberg was the same way but in the SEL. It will click.

Trade someone or its possible Girardi or Stralman decide to walk or ask for too much. Always better to have too many dmen and be able to move one than to not have enough.

I guess it would make sense to sign him in case Girardi is in fact over the hill/Stralman wants too much.

But I don't like all this roster upheaval! We had a tight nit group last year. Then we blew it up. The players fought for each other, we couldn't buy a fight if our lives depended on it this season. Keep the core group, add on to that. Don't get rid of that. If Zidlicky means trading Girardi or Stralsy i'll be very disappointed.

I think Schenn has much better hands and a much quicker release than Couturier. He's quicker, too.

Couturier's hands are decent at best, he lacks a quick release, although his shot power is OK. His offense is going to come from his intelligence and positioning. If he can find his groove in front of the net on the PP, perhaps his offense can take a step forward past what I've projected him to reach.

Not sure Nystrom makes it to FA.
Stars beat writer Mike Heika answered questions in a chat on Thursday. Here are some highlights.

What is the status with Nystrom, and how high do the Stars go? It seems that he could be a great leader for the future of the team.

I think he definitely wants to return, but you have to way whatever Eric gets with what players like Garbutt and Roussel are getting. If the Stars believe they can get by with cheaper alternatives, they might allow Nystrom to test free agency.

I don't mind the McLeod trade, if we can get a pick for Asham, i am good with that too.

I really want to see what we have in Mash/Yogan next season.

Also I am not giving up a 2nd for Clowe as a 4th liner.
if that's the plan, i'd let him walk.

Zidlicky is absolute trash defensively. I don't think his offense makes up for it.

No Zidlicky. I'd rather get McBain/Blum.

From this;

http://snyrangersblog.com/znhl-play...n-mark-streit-but-interest-in-marek-zidlicky/

Comes this;

In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that the Rangers are not likely to pursue Islanders captain Mark Streit as he becomes a free agent on July 5.

Elliotte Friedman noted on HNIC that teams are starting to investigate the idea of trading for Streit and signing him to a new deal before he becomes a free agent.

Brooks does say that the Rangers are expected to look into free agent Marek Zidlicky who has spent the last season and part of 2011-12 with the Devils.

Glen Sather, in 2002, traded Zidlicky when he was a Rangers prospect in a deal, with Rem Murray and Tomas Kloucek, to Nashville for Mike Dunham.

In his career, Zidlicky, 36, has 66 goals and 259 assists. 45 of his goals and 131 of his assists have come on the PP.

He played in all 48 games for the Devils last season and averaged 20:48. He is a right handed shot.

Zidlicky is coming off a three-year deal worth $12 million.

In the NHL 13 game he's offered to me in some kind of trade almost every week, I've never given him much thought. Ok stats, but could price himself out..

We needed a goaltender at the time and Kloucek didn't pan out, so I don't think it was a tragedy of a deal.

Rubber pads Dunham was about the only player on our team who could clear the puck on a penalty kill for a few years.

Zidlicky's on a bit, now, but we need offensive options on the blueline. Zidlicky is credentialed. He scored a lot for the Czech republic in the 2006 olympics as I recall.
