This type of signing would make a ton of sense.

How does signing another fringe 3rd/4th liner make sense.

Especially one that is older and has been out of the game for a year.

If he's not signing a two way deal for league minimum, I want nothing to do with him.

Because this team isn't overly deep in players who can do multiple things well?

You don't see that list as odd to you? Callahan. Gaborik. Nash. All RWers. Does it have to do with the fact that his centers were rotated like crazy? Where are the other LWers? Oh wait, they all rotated like crazy too. Between injuries, the massive trade and the countless promotions/demotions that occurred in just 48 games, that list includes the only forwards who consistently played on the team. Coincidence?

It's not like Callahan is the only player who had to deal with player rotations, or teams had to deal with injuries or trades(which Jagr and Iginla were involved in).

You're on the right track.

The break down on their TOI/GP (ES/SH/PP/Total):
Callahan 15:44 2:33 3:12 21:30
Jagr 16:13 0:00 2:13 18:26
Iginla 13:44 0:00 3:55 17:40

I agree with the point you're making, but you shan't be stretching the facts.

Refer to my post to CaliDubiZib:

Even if you fully negate Callahan's PK TOI, he still averages more overall minutes than Jagr and Iginla.

So your knock on him is that he plays all situations? You realize he has to pay ES, PP, and PK to match the TOI numbers of those players you listed right? Those guys play top line minutes and first unit PP.

So what's the issue again? He is a good all around player? GASP!

Is he a good enough all around player to be freaking 4th in TOI/PG amongst forwards? Hell no! That's a reason why the Rangers were struggling a lot this season! The misuse of a player like Callahan well beyond his capabilities! You don't see comparable players like Mike Richards or TJ Oshie even average those many minutes. I am suggesting to get Jagr or Iginla to lessen his workload offensively and establish him as a 3rd line grinder in a PK role and secondary PP minutes.

Could that be due to the fact that they are OLD and can not handle more minutes?

if our centers are making very ilttle as well as D why not

Ah, but they won't be. Stepan, Brassard, McDonagh, Staal, MDZ, Girardi. They will all get paid well.

Richards can't keep up with the play anymore. All of the players were locked out. Not just Richards. Not all of them played in Europe. What is the excuse for Richards? He couldn't make a play or do anything. He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Kris Newbury was his replaceable. Kris Newbury. He was the 4th line center before being a scratch. He is paid elite player money. His contract expires in 2020. His first 6 years of the contract have an AAV of $9.5M. $57M. 6 years. $9.5M. The CBA changed. Its time to cut ties and move on.

Richards should have not been lazy and kept in shape by playing in europe.. and he has the A on his jersey. great leader he is :help: the older you get, the more you have to do to keep in game shape..

Jaromir Jagr

Jaromir Jagr's agent, Petr Svoboda, says his client intends to return to the NHL next season.

The Bruins have announced they will not re-sign Jagr.

How would you guys feel about the Rangers picking up Jags if the price is right?

He was a fan favorite here a few years ago and worked wonders. Obviously he's nowhere near the same player now but even with no legs he was a powerplay genius for the Bruins in the playoffs and created tons of chances. I think he could really help out the team, at least in that regard.

We don't have to worry about Girardi, Staal, Mdz or Brassard right now. I could see Jagr taking a 1 year deal, even at a 2 year deal at a 3-4M cap hit its not a bad risk seeing as that is what otehrs wanted to give Clowe.

Barely, and Jagr was used like a 41 year old should be used.

He probably doesn't need to take as many ES shifts, but he is good on the PP and PK. I never said he wasn't misused or used too much, but him having that high TOI is nothing more than him being used in every situation. Shouldn't be used as a knock against the player.

Love him, but I'd be wary about bringing in a former captain on his last legs. They tend to be unaware of their shortcomings.

I think he is a very overrated ES and PP player, but he's a decent PKer. Jagr and Iginla are far better than Callahan in an offensive role, one of them will take away Callahan's ES/PP minutes to lessen his load. Callahan and Jagr/Iginla should average around 16-18 mins each.

Well it's not worth discussing Callahan with you considering you can't be objective at all about it. So agree to disagree, once again.

The decision that faces both the Rangers and Lightning is that if they don’t decide to use the compliance buyout provision before the end of July 4, do they risk either player getting injured next season and not be able to buy them out next summer?

The other factor to consider is the "recapture" rule in the new CBA, which hammers teams with cap charges on players with these types of front-loaded contracts if they retire prematurely, before the end of the deal.

Still, neither player's camps had heard officially either way as of Wednesday afternoon, Pat Morris of Newport Sports telling ESPN.com he had yet to get a definite answer from the Rangers. Ditto for Lecavalier’s agent, Kent Hughes, who nevertheless understands the situation Tampa is in.
