I think we should mimic Boston, as far as identity goes. A team that can match up and adjust against any other team.

The Rangers have been trying to follow that formula. The problem is, other than in goal, Boston just simply has much better players all over the lineup.

For no particular reason I have this horrid feeling that Slats is going to go hard after Iginla, 3 yrs at $5.5-6 per :(

I would be okay with Iginla IF it was 2-3 years and under 5 million/season. The guy can still score. He is just being put on the 3rd line in Pittsburgh.

Add both Raymond and Stalberg to the bottom six.

You want to build a team on quick transition, speed, and forecheck. That would be a good start.

Get rid of the elephants. Pyatt and Clowe.

I disagree. The Rangers defense easily matches the Bruins. The forwards are a work in progress but I don't think they are THAT far off.

The failure of Richards REALLY hurt this team. Add another 70-80 point center and this team is probably still playing.

Time to move on though, they need to give some of their young players shots to develop.

I wouldn't be opposed to one of them IF Clowe is not re-signed. I don't think they need both.

That Boston team wasn't built on free agents. Draft and trades. Look at this board. One free agent after another free agent. That Boston team has been together for 3 years. The Rangers change 50% of the roster on a yearly basis.

The only FAs I am interested in are bottom guys this year. imagine something like dz for a top winger, and adding a Viktor stalberg.. top.6 becomes better and so does bottom 6 and we keep the core in tact.

Well, thats funny, because it sounds like you agree.

MDZ for Burmistrov +

Powe + Pyatt traded for picks/prospects

Miller/Fast/Lindberg battle for that 3rd line spot.

Raymond signed for 2 years @ 2.4 million/season
Nystrom signed for 3 years @ 1.5 million/season
Scuderi signed for 2 years @ 3 million/season

If they want to go with speed, that add's it.

You said that other than in goal the Rangers don't match. I said they also match on defense.

I guess I agree with the in goal part?

Defense might be close, although the Rangers dont have a force like Chara on their blueline.

The offense is miles away, especially in the bottom 6. Its also a huge leap of faith to think that Stepan/Brassard will be as good as Bergeron/Krejci. The Rangers are the poor man's Bruins right now.

Boston was awful at times this season as well. Yes they are a good team but they weren't a juggernaut all season and everything is just clicking. it's not who is the best, it's who is the hottest in the playoffs that win. if Tor didn't choke on game 7, we r still playing imo. Boston has taken off since that game

Can I ask you a question...why are you fascinated with turning over the roster all the time? Dont you think thats a symptom of the disease?

That I can agree with. Although a healthy Staal defensively, is close enough for me to Chara.

Because they have pieces that are just plain awful. Until they get a team that looks good I see no reason to let them gel. They have a core at this point, keep them together and hope to bring in some pieces you can add to that core as you go.

a 4th line of Dorsett-Boyle-Asham would not be bad at all. one trade (dz for forward), and a minor signing like a Stalberg or other and Rangers depth becomes very good

I've seen you, yourself, mention that parts of the roster need a change. The bottom six needs an upgrade/change of identity. Clowe and Pyatt are not a solution. Trade Del Zotto for a young forward and depth. I wouldn't call that a turnover as much as improving the roster.

Asham is an anchor with his lack of speed. If they can replace him with someone like Nystrom it is a huge upgrade.

If we want to run 4 lines like Boston, we need someone like Nystrom, not Asham.

Right now our depth sucks. Rw is our deepest position, and that isn't even that great. We need upgrades everywhere

RT @dchesnokov: Sergei Gonchar is close to moving to Matallurg Magnitogorsk of the #KHL to join Mike Keenan. #Sens

Not that he has been mentioned by anyone here, but there may be 1 less d-man available via UFA

Bickell, Horton, and Clowe (if medically cleared) would be great fits. But they will get too much $. I have a tough time getting behind any 4-5+ yr deal regardless of who it is.

You need players like that in the postseason, period. Stalberg could be a better option, ditto Nystrom, if they come cheap enough. But that's about all I would really support.

No doubt the current roster needs tweaks to sure up the depth. I'd like for it to be done in a targeted way - and have a plan for these players to grow together.

Some posters on this board condone the acquisitions of, quite literally, any player that is available - even when the team is playing well! It makes for good conversation, but its a ****** way to build a team.

I think Scuderi gets more than 3 mill per year.

I don't know man, I'm a contender every year in my NHL 13 GM mode. :sarcasm:
