All I ask is no major roster turnover. The 2011-12 Rangers played above their heads and a large part of that was due to their amazing team chemistry. We need these guys to develop that.

I wouldn't be too upset if this was the roster on opening night:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Richards (yes Richards)-Cally
Kreider-Brassard-Zucc
Pyatt/Asham-Boyle-Dorsett

Staal-Girardi
McD-Stralman
Moore-Del Zotto

Hank
Biron

Keep Torts and Sully, have Sather force Torts to hire a pp coach and urge him to tweak his system. I think with a Torts training camp, some developed chemistry and a more open system (not run and gun, but not what we have now) that this roster could be successful.

This team needs to add more toughness if they are going to continue to play the way they are. If they wish to change that style, then whatever, but if you want to play a hitting, dump and chase game, you need guys who can intimidate along the boards and get in on the forecheck.

I'm in favor of bringing in a coach that will run his top 2 lines out there and try to methodically score, rather than dump and chase. Then send out his bottom 2 to by energy/forechecking lines that do that. Similar to the system the Blackhawks use.

Think these 2 lines could suffice as your bottom 2:
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan
Clowe-Boyle-Dorsett

For all his faults, the only person in this entire organization who has a blueprint for the identity of the team is Tortorella.

I have high hopes for Gorton but he still has to answer to Sather.

Keep Clowe, add Torres trade for Ryan

A full season with all three of Clowe, Torres and Dorsett and you will see the mindset of this team change much like when Prust was here.

Kreider - Brassard - Nash
Clowe - Stepan - Ryan
Hagelin - Miller - Callahan
Torres - Lindberg - Dorsett

Extra forward rotating through the top 9 - Fasth and Newbury for the 4th line.

Speed, skill, size and physicality

Agreed. He is consistent even though I don't totally agree with it.

I am hopeful Gorton does as well but if he wants to be an in-your-face team, he has a long way to go.

The team was a bunch of junkyard dogs last year. They frothed at every loose puck and were not only willing to win battles in the trenches, but most of the guys actually enjoyed it.

Every winning team needs to have that mentality to win in this league, no matter how talented they are.

Whether or not this team is being coached by Tortorella next season, the biggest need this team has and has had since post-trade deadline 2004, after Leetch got traded, is a defenseman that can skate the puck through the neutral zone, take control of the transition attack, and create from the point in the offensive zone.

The Rangers have a group of mobile defensmen, but they don't join the attack often enough. That is more likely a coaching decision, however. But what they don't have is the consistent threat. It is one of many reasons for the abysmal power play.

Theories on how to get one? There are a few, but some may not be met with love. You have to give to get in this league.

Agreed. A huge need. Probably the biggest, although Im not sold on a Stepan/Brassard 1-2 punch at center as being championship caliber.

Anyway, heres the best philosophy on how to get a real puck moving defenseman: no sacred cows, no untouchables on the current roster.

Honestly wouldn't mind Weiss depending on the price, gives us 3 very good centers. Weiss is smaller but scrappy and a 9 year vet.

Really wouldn't be interested in him if he's asking for $4M or more. Which he probably will, so it's pipe dream more than anything.

Streit is an interesting UFA, he's still great on the PP. He's not a shooter, though, and the Rangers need a shooter. Not another QB type that will move the puck but not shoot it. Again, it depends on the price. He's not really a top-4 D at this point, but he can still be productive in a lesser-role at ES.

MDZ for Zibanejad or Burmistrov. Need more skill.

Call up McIlrath. Trade Pyatt.

Weiss is 30 (?) and has wrist problems. No thank you.

I'm unsure if I'm sold on Stepan/Brassard, either. With Richards being scratched tonight the writing may be on the wall with him this summer. Where they are going to get that new #1 or at least equivalent to Stepan/Brassard so there can be a #1 by committee, is another story.

Outside of Lundqvist, and possibly McDonagh, no sacred cows indeed.

Burmistrov and Stuart for Del Zotto and Boyle???

Rangers can use a nasty dman like Mark Stuart

why do the Rangers need a massive roster shake up every off season? This is why we never win the cup.

Would like to see every notable RFA retained, Richards bought out, and some UFAs brought in for depth

Derek Roy 2 years, $7 mil (3.5 cap)
Raffi Torres 2 years, $4 mil (2.0 cap)
Douglas Murray 1 year, $1.5 mil

Try to move Del Zotto + Pyatt to Dallas for Eriksson

Go to war with

Eriksson Stepan Callahan
Hagelin Brassard Nash
Kreider Roy Zuccarello
Torres Boyle Dorsett
Asham, Powe

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Stralman
Moore Murray

lets bring back Hollweg and be the headhunters. no thanks :help: let him get suspended somewhere else

Love Torres.

Don't really see the room for him, though.

No to Roy, also. He was invisible in the playoffs with sheltered minutes. He's also 5'9 and has a recent injury history.

Raffi Torres had more even strength points in 39 games this season than Ryan Hollweg had points in his 228 game NHL career.

Not a great comparison.

Best one yet. But McIlrath will be up next year.

Offseason depends on Staal's injury/future Carolina ambitions and Clowe's injury/contract terms. I would like to resign Clowe if he has reasonable contract demands. If Staal's eye is healthy this summer and makes it clear he wants to stay a ranger when his contract expires then i look to trade MDZ for a scorer. If Staal is a question mark then i look to trade him to Carolina for either a forward on their team or the 5th overall pick. I also buyout Richards.

if Clowe doesnt resign..

Scorer Stepan Nash
Hagelin Brassard Callahan
Kreider Lindberg Zuccarello
Asham Boyle Dorsett
Powe

McDonagh Girardi
Staal/MDZ Stralman
Moore McIlrath/Eminger

if Clowe resigns

Scorer Stepan Nash
Clowe Brassard Callahan
Kreider Lindberg Hagelin
Asham Boyle Dorsett
Powe

McDonagh Girardi
Staal/MDZ Stralman
Moore McIlrath/Eminger

in this scenario im not sure where zuccarello fits as I see him as the odd man out. Maybe we can trade for a C instead of a winger with MDZ/Staal and Lindberg is the oddman out this year.
