Speculation: 2013 Off-Season Speculation/Be the GM Thread

And you think the Rangers should take that chance based on a random whim rather than the way he has played? He has never had a stretch this bad in his career.

Personally, I think he should be bought out immediately. They'll do it next summer anyway, so why delay the inevitable?

But again, this isnt my money. That $20+ million is actually real money. You or me are not the ones who have to walk into Dolan's office with our tails between our legs and beg for a buyout.

Here we go again with this fantasyland with overhauling the roster again.......

Keep Torts and Sullivan. Just add a coach to run the power play. Would win us games instead of losing us games.

I firmly believe the Rangers need to add a gritty fourth liner. I'm cool with adding Torres. Forget Gonchar, Streit and Antropov. Keep Boyle and use him and Lindberg as our 3rd/4th line centers. Stralman is good enough to be our 5th/6th defenseman. Keep. He was impressive when he came here in 2012. Probably our most consistent defenseman all year.

If MDZ and Miller gets us Ryan, great. Think it'll take more.

I'm for consistency. But if we have a few young guys coming up, by all means. We have Kreider and Miller. No more adding crazy amounts of players unless it's adding our prospects. I'm not much of a Del Zotto fan, but c'mon, he's not even at the age where defenseman are at their peak. I'm not saying he's not expendable, but he has the tools. If any defenseman needs to be traded, it's Girardi. Again, I'm for consistency, but if there needs to be a trade, trade him. His value won't go any higher right now.

MacArthur? O'Byrne is definitely not a top-4 d-man. Moore?

I knew I was forgetting a D. We need another legitimate RD back there. And O'Byrne is a tweener, same as Stralman.

MacArthur would be a great fit on this team, I've thought so for a couple of years now. The 3 LWs would be interchangeable depending on chemistry in that lineup.

is anyone aware of a site that lists other NHL teams amnesty buyout candidates?

Since Richards will most likely be snatched up easily, i'd have to think we in turn could pick up someone useful the same way....

no overhauls, but you still need to add some talent. With a full camp, preseason, season, we'll be fine with bringing in some new faces.

I don't disagree. Use Kreider and Miller then. Go with the growing pains. It's better than signing a few decent players to come here and crap the bed.

these are the type of players NYR should go after. guys with speed. snarl and size...

UFA: sign Bryan Bickell (3 years 2.5 per year) (rangers need more size especially up front)..
UFA: sign Weiss (3 year deal 4.0 per year)
UFA: sign Nathan Horton (4 year 4.5 per year) Rangers need some much needed size in top 6.
UFA: sign Chad Larose (3 year 2.5 per year) rangers need some speed up front as well..
UFA: sign Ryan Jones (3 year 2.0 per year) upgrades the bottom 6
UFA: sign Scott Hannan (2 year 2.5 per year)

rangers dont need guys like no offense players like Boyd Gordon or a small soft forward like MacArthur.. rangers need size on the wings...

Trade:
MDZ + St. Croix/Thomas for Burmistrov + 13th
They haven't had thirteen round in a while. ;)

I've picked out three UFA that I think would be good fits.

Mark Streit
Powerplay pointman team has been desperately lacking.

PPP/60 last three years:
3.29, 4.34, Inj.

Michael Ryder
Has shown an ability to put the puck in the net, especially on the powerplay.

PPP/60 last three years:
7.75, 3.07, 4.74

Raffi Torres
Will be suspended for at least half the games next season, but provides snarl, and is a great even strength producer. Likely could be had for far below his fair value.

ESP/60 last three years:
2.15, 1.81, 1.62

I firmly believe the Rangers need to add a gritty fourth liner.

Like I suggested earlier, trade Zucc for Ryan Reaves.

Zucc would fit well on the blues as a top 6, where he doesn't fit particularly well on the rangers.

Reaves is one of the best 4th liners in the league. High energy, responsible, can skate and hit, and can fight if needed.

Reaves, Boyle, Dorsett is a hell of a fourth line.

Ryan Jones and Clarke MacArthur are very similar players.

Weiss is small and not particularly fast.

Chad Larose is small, and not particularly gifted offensively.

Bryan Bickell and Nathan Horton are two guys I like, but we have zero need for another RW like Horton.

You didn't even mention giving $5 million to Scott Hannan....

well Brich looks like he will be a Leaf soon:laugh:

It's likely for the best. Sad since we were so exited to have him here

Not many good C options, they need one to replace him. I want Stephen Weiss, bad yr but still young and could do well in NY IMO

well it will most likely be his last contract. Rangers can use more grit on defense.. Rangers wont want to put pressure on McIlrath to be the only gritty physical dman. Rangers can use a leader to help McIlrath along...

What is the obsession on this forum with undersized C's who are average skaters? Haven't we gone through enough of those to know that with any kind of physical defense they are non factors?

The only C's I want on the rangers are those who either have size, or those who are special skaters. And obviously the great ones have both. Enough of the slow small guys

the only small forwards id want is ones that can chase down loose pucks and negates icings like LaRose, Hagelin etc... rangers MUST ADD SIZE WITH PLAYERS THAT USE IT TO THE WINGS AND MORE GRIT TOUGHNESS ON BACKEND.. SOMEONE TO KNOCK THE OTHER PLAYER DOWN FOR SCREENING LUNDQVIST. a player like Hannan would be useful to NYR... enough of this soft crappy defense.. i wish McIlrath can be our version of Brooks Orpik... Rangers need that type badly

Exactly, special skaters. And I don't think they lack toughness on the back end. McD is tough as heck. Staal is very strong presence when he's healthy. Girardi hits and can hold his own.

It's the rest of the D that gets a bit soft, Moore has the size to become more tough. But MDZ, stralman, never going to be that physical. But I'm not sure if that's really needed.

The rangers are getting pummeled right now by a team with who on defense? Chara and a bunch of kids.

This idea that many here have that the rangers need like 15 top 4 DMen is looney. They need 4 top 4 DMen. Staal, girardi, McD, and whoever the 4th is. Trade the rest for offensive players.

I would really like Streit

The more I think about it, the more open I would be to trading MZA. I like him. He fits, but he is not exactly ideal for the 3rd line spot. I like Reaves, although I think they could get more.

i like these guys. Horton... is a health risk?

Just a bit....

well compared to the Caps and Bruins they are.. John Erskine would be another target if he was an UFA just resigned 2 years i believe. Rangers need a tough physical in your face dman.. someone to make the oposition pay if they go near Lundqvist. Lundqvist has been sprayed while other teams crash the net with no response. if I was Lundqvist id be pissed... would this happen with Marty and the Devils although Marty would dive like a fish and the other team would get a penalty... every time a Ranger went near Capitals net their was a scrum.. i wish NYR had that type of heart and character...

Douglas Murray would be a stop-gap as a bottom pairing guy until McIlrath is ready.

I just don't understand how some people would be reluctant to trade McIlrath since he's the only one of his ilk that we have, but would be open to trading Girardi (one of our two righties) or Dizzy.

I think you have to look at Staal, McDefense and Moore as similar players. McD could get us almost anyone we would want (maybe Gomez?) but his value is just as high to us, so probably not him. Moore has a lot of upside, but his trade value isn't as high as his value to us. That leaves Staal. His value on the trade market would be pretty high, and we lucked out with McD supplanting him as our #1.

I would rather stand pat for one more year, but if we wanted to really upgrade our offense at the expense of defense, Staal would make the most sense.

Nail on the head dude; our defensemen are clones of one another with a few minor differences! Staal, McD, Moore, even Del Z.

Exactly; I'm sick and tired of watching other playoff team move young players into their lineups seamlessly and live with whatever growing pains there are.
