I'm not disagreeing with you, although of players on this team I've thought Umbooger was the juiciest amnesty guy; still, isn't that 2/3 off the cap hit, anyway? I thought if you amnestied a guy, regardless of what is still owed him in actual dollars, the whole contract is off the books. No?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. My point is that Columbus doesn't care about caphit, because we aren't a cap team. Doesn't matter if its off the books, if the money comes out of the owner's pockets its spending.

The only exception to this I can think of is if for some crazy reason our owner wants to spend a fortune, they might proactively buyout a guy like Umby in the summer of 2014 (just before the amnesty window closes) so they can spend even more in the following years. Then you would pay Umby 2/3 of the remainder of the deal, and 100% of the deal's caphit is amnestied (gone).

True Pete, I guess I'm the outlyer fan.... To be honest my concern with players is what they do on the ice more than how they like Columbus for their kids or how their comardes feel about each other.... To be frank, I want our players to put winning as a Columbus Blue Jacket above everything else save being in the delivery room when the wife has that baby or a loved one passes away.... ;)

It's a hardcore world Pete....

No, you're not the outlier. Most fans see the players as commodities, as automatons whose only purpose in life is to play hockey for whichever team owns them.Who don't understand - because it has never occurred to them - how a positive non-work situation, and how improved working relationships, could actually improve a person's performance at work.

The Perry and Getzlaf deals are going to hinder the Ducks. 16+ million a year tied up in 2 players. If I were Bobby Ryan I would fully expect to be traded. Probably not at the deadline, but definitely in the offseason. I think that Ryan would work pretty well here, but a trade here would be unlikely because we won't mortgage the future for a piece like him.

Maybe, but I don't see an immediate need for that to occur this off season. A Selanne retirement is probably at hand. That alone pays for most of the two salaries from a cap perspective. 4.5 million of about 6 million in cap increase. However, Fowler's contract extension kicks in as well.

If they are willing to spend to the cap, they should be able to fill in their roster and keep Ryan if they desire. This isn't much different than Crosby/Malkin/Neal. The Pens and Ducks cap situation is almost identical next season.

Vancouver fan coming in peace!
Just wondering what the asking price would be for Brassard, Letestu or Dubinsky. The Canucks need a center that can slot in at 3rd line center but push up to 2nd line if needed.

I've noticed that the Columbus center depth isn't that bad, of course it lacks an ideal 1st line center but that comes through the draft. Do you guys need wingers and picks?

I'd be in favor of mortgaging a bit to get Ryan. He's 26 and signed to a pretty good deal. I'm guessing this would be the classic, player, a pick, and a prospect type of deal.

In that case, I'd be good with Brassard, Savard, and LA's first round pick for Ryan. We'd be getting the best player in the deal for once.

Yes, Canucks fan, we need wings and picks. I am fairly certain either Letestu or Brassard could be had for the right combo.

I can see a deal happening between these two teams if Columbus is out by the deadline. We've already discussed most of these deals on the main boards (there is a new thread on Letestu to Canucks right now).

I'd put Letestu at a 2nd rounder, Brassard at a late 1st or pair of 2nds. I can't see Dubinsky being traded, and just because we like him I'd say he's worth a 1st+2nd.

There would be ten teams in the league who would outbid us at that price. Maybe before Savard's value dropped this might have been close. Now I think we'd have to add another pick or a better d man.

Moore, Brassard, LA's 1st, Savard for Ryan.

If Ryan was available, teams would line up for him. That won't get it done, either. They would want RyJo instead of Brassard, Jenner/Erixon, Foligno and 1st or something like that.

as we saw over the summer, what you want and what you get are two diff things...i think there's a deal that could be done...but many posters wouldn't want to see it...

And he's not worth that.

Would something like Raymond + 2nd round pick get us Brassard?
I'd wanna get both Letestu and Brassard so what would the Canucks have to add? Would really prefer not trading Kassian/Jensen or this years 1st for reasons I hope you understand.

I doubt Keek will trade Letestu, he's gradually becoming a CBJ role player... Brass is a different story however.. (imo)

I don't think Columbus would have much use for Vancouver's players. Columbus is actually pretty deep, Raymond would be just another middle-six player. I'd bet Jarmo just wants picks, and is probably not intrigued by Kassian or Jensen.

Ahh damn I've always liked Letestu and wanted him on the Nucks (or Sens...).

If Raymond is just a throw in, would Brassard for a 2nd round pick (2013) + B prospect (Rodin) work? What would you want because again, I don't think the team wants to part with a first round draft pick. Maybe even Brassard for a 2014 1st round pick

Brass had a good game tonight but I'd take a first round pick for him.... plus a marginal prospect...

I may get a flashback by some CBJ fans but imo Brassard is part of the old Jackets, he's good but at this point I just don't see him being a part of the future Columbus club... we will see.

Lets say Columbus keeps up their play and at the trade deadline, they're still in the playoff race. If Jarmo still decides to be sellers, would this have a negative effect on the players? Would their morale go down and they start to go on a losing trend?

Of course it would.... these guys have worked their butts off for who knows why? Not one of our players want to be traded right now...

Hey Jarmo, we are tied for the 8th seed in the WC right now but everyone knows we suck, how about trading Bobrovsky so we can be the the first seed in March next season?

I agree. I wouldn't do that trade. But that's what I'd ask from Anaheim POV. They have the leverage as of now.

Nah, you screwed it up because you increased the number of top prospects, along with the #1 pick.

I think you are in the ballpark you just went too far.

Personally, I don't see any way Columbus becomes what most fans would define as a "buyer" regardless of where we are. HOwever, I don't think there would be as significant a sell off. The biggest challenge I see with this team is that 12 of the last 17 games are on the road. We are sitting on a pace of 48 pts which likely doesn't get us in the playoffs. I still think moves will be made to continue to reshape the team but it will be tricky. You can't "blow it up" when you are in a position to challenge for the playoffs.

It would absolutely affect the players to sell several pieces, however, selling doesn't mean dumping players. I think that's the rub with most fans. YOu can move players and get back players that can still help with the playoff push and help with the future.
