I'm not disagreeing with you, although of players on this team I've thought Umbooger was the juiciest amnesty guy; still, isn't that 2/3 off the cap hit, anyway? I thought if you amnestied a guy, regardless of what is still owed him in actual dollars, the whole contract is off the books. No?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. My point is that Columbus doesn't care about caphit, because we aren't a cap team. Doesn't matter if its off the books, if the money comes out of the owner's pockets its spending.
The only exception to this I can think of is if for some crazy reason our owner wants to spend a fortune, they might proactively buyout a guy like Umby in the summer of 2014 (just before the amnesty window closes) so they can spend even more in the following years. Then you would pay Umby 2/3 of the remainder of the deal, and 100% of the deal's caphit is amnestied (gone).
