Just some players that might be interesting for the NYR this coming draft. I know the list is long but with no 1st or 2nd, most of these players have a chance of falling into the 3rd or lower, some we might have to trade up for. Also, I've researched most of these guys just too lazy to post links for them. Not in any particular order. Food for thought !

Kerby Rychel - would love to get him if we trade Del Zotto to move up to the late 1st.

List looks good. I would add some goalies and if we trade up there are options to take. Rychel would be a good choice, but guys like Ristolainen, Santini, Zykov, etc would be awesome to snag if we traded up. Especially for Del Zotto.

There are some good goalies this year, just with the lack of picks, I don't know if the NYR want to spend a pick on a goalie. I think NYR will look to find a goalie from the Euro leagues (SEL), college or undrafted prospects.

Big fan of Connor Hurley. Have been posting about him for a while now.

Could be the next big thing out of MN on a Bjugstad-ish level.

I highly, highly, doubt he is there in the 3rd but ya never know.

Then they missed out on some good talent. The only one worth snagging IMO is Joacim Eriksson.

Agreed, should be available in the 2nd round. May go in the last 5 picks of the 1st.

I'm making an assumption that the Rangers somehow get a first rounder this year.

I hope so or at least a 2nd. With 3 3rds and either Del Zotto or Staal likely to be moved at the draft, I would assume they would do something to get there.

I was looking at Eriksson a while back. He's a UFA. Would be a good pickup, best goalie in the SEL. Same team as Lindberg, Skellefteå. Do you think maybe that the NYR haven't found or been looking for Lundqvist's heir because they don't want to offend the KING, while he still hasn't signed a contract extension.

If that is the case, then they are being unprofessional. Lundqvist obviously isn't getting any younger. IMO they should get someone who has the potential to be a Lunqvist caliber and let him grow into that such player. When he gets too old have him be a solid backup for him. Example: Quick and Bernier. They are both NHL starters and Quick is going to be the No.1 for LA. The thing there is the age difference and they'll have Quick for a little longer than the Rangers would have Lundqvist (unless he wants to play when he's 40+). Idk what he'll do, but if he doesn't sign an extension, we are screwed because we don't have a goaltender. Talbot is a backup in the NHL, Missiaen(?) just became a backup in the AHL, Stajcer sucks. We have no other goalies. Biron isn't a realible starter, but is a good back up.

I honestly just don't think the Rangers are interested in developing a goalie while they have Hank. He's been very, very healthy and is still fairly young.

Only a year younger than Eli Manning...

We will see, though. If we could get Frederick Andersen that would be nice.

True, but goalies tend to stay healthy. At least more than QBs. :D

I think Hank has a solid 7 years left in him, but why not start developing a goalie now? Look at how it played out for the Devils/Bruins. Bruins developed Rask while Thomas was they guy and now Rask has stepped up and they are still cup contenders. Devils have no backup plan for Fatso and are just praying he doesnt retire so they can still be somewhat of a contender. I think you get a goalie in the ranks now so were not caught with our pants down 5-7 years. We have enough 3rd round picks might as well see what happens.

You look at the goaltenders around their league, their level and where they were selected, and I don't know why a team would use a high draft pick on one.

Agreed. With so many 3rd rounders this year why not take a fly on a goalie and hope we strike gold

drafting goaltenders in the top 3 rounds isnt smart.

lets keep trying to find some offensive talent with our top picks and look to makeup ground with quantity of picks in the 4-6 rounds for defensive dmen and goaltenders. better odds if we grab a tender every year in rnds 4-6.

as ive been pretty much away from this site for the last few months, i havenet psoted much on the draft thread but will be shortly.

all i really want is to move mcilrath and del zotto in this draft and move up for an offensive centerman or winger who can skate and score. period.

and i always like dynamic offensive dmen who have great wheels

if we dont move up, i like 2 kids out of saginaw Nick Moutrey and Jimmy Lodge. nick is a big kid 6'3 210 with nice hands and great wall skills. tough on the puck and hard worker. smart kid on and off the ice. classic big body power forward player with some skills. hell take some time to develop but seems like a solid nyr kid.

Lodge is more dynamic. tall and thin at 6'2 170, hes got good wheels, great hands and good vision. his playmaking skills are already developed. the right handed shot has 2c skills potential.

both kids are gonna be there after round 1 and be gone by round 3.

I'm hoping Cal Petersen is that guy if we take a tender in round 2 or 3. Played this season at Waterloo(USHL) with Zach Stepan. He'll join Ranger's 2011 3rd rounder Steven Fogarty at Notre Dame in 2014.

There are some really good players in the '13 draft coming from the U.S. side, 1st to 3rd round.

Just saw this, not sure if posted:

Andrew Gross ‏@AGrossRecord
#NYR sign D Sam Noreau, 5th round pick in 2011. Shane McColgan and Peter Ceresnak (6th and 7th rounds) not signed, will re-enter draft.

Hoping for one of the following:
Played in NA
Eric Comrie
Cal Petersen
Patrik Bartosak
Michael Giugovaz
Alexandre Belanger
Jake Patterson
Eetu Laurikainen
Frank Palazzese

Played Overseas
Juuse Saros
Luka Gracnar
Marcus Hogberg
Ville Huuso
Melvin Nyffeler

Thoughts?

The more I watch him, the more I wish we could pick him up. Nichushkin literally looks like a clone of Rick Nash.
