Lou is being patient about this for a reason. I trust him to make the right move here.

Yeah. No need to give out a stupid long-term contract or overpay. I'm sure Lou is thinking it over with his staff and plotting out ideas and strategies, that may well involve waiting until camp or during the season. I'm sure he's also looking at the trade front, but you can't force something that isn't there for you.

Still, I expect something to happen in the next couple weeks.

So think we'll go after Grabovski after what he said in the media? I know Lou doesn't like players who talk to much to the media, think it would hurt his chances?

Chere got a hold of Henrique. A nonupdate on contract negotiations:

When Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk walked away from 12 years and $77 million remaining on his contract, the loss of a skilled forward could have given restricted free agent Adam Henrique more leverage in his own negotiations.

“I should just ask for the rest of his contract,” Henrique joked in a conversation today with The Star-Ledger.

“Could be. It’s close. It’s coming along well,” Henrique confirmed. “There is no huge rush or deadline, so we’re just going at it a day at a time.” ....

...Henrique is very close to signing a new contract, perhaps a long-term deal.

“It kind of depends,” he explained. “We’ve gone over shorter terms and longer terms. I love it here. I love playing here. The fans have been awesome. The organization is great. It’s becoming another home. We’re not locked in with longer or shorter. We’ll see.”

Maybe Lou is planning a long term lockup at a higher price. that could be the pivot point for a Brunner signing?

Extend up up to 1 year left in RFA status. Should give us control for another summer to extend him into UFA years, plus we won't need to "buy" any UFA years right now. Not that we are cap-strapped or anything.

was just listening to the interview with Mike Mazzeo where he discusses the Kovy retirement. he says our best option to replace him is Brunner, but if we dont get him, we still have internal options such as Jacob Josefson and Mattias Tedenby.

if JJ or Teds can replace Kovalchuk next year, I will personally buy every member of this board a Tedenby jersey

I don't know where he's getting his info, but he might be the only TSN guy not at a cabin on the lake right now:

Jacob Josefson signs 1-year deal with Devils. $725,000

I'm guessing that will be a one way deal.

Maybe Lou wants to wait for one day to announce many things including Henrique, Josefson, and maybe Brunner to make a statement to the fans. Instead of a signing here and a resigning there announcing many new deals at once, atleast I feel is more exciting as a fan and more encouraging since Kovalchuk leaving.
