I think Chere had a quote from Deboer that said Brylin will not be the assistant. They wanted someone with experience. I'm happy with that cause I don't want Sarge full time. Give him a spot on the staff as a special assignment coach first, like Stevens was for years before he got the full time assistant job.

DeBoer said they would like someone who's in the NHL and with coaching experience.
So Chere took it upon himself to say it can't be Brylin.

There are most likely better options out there than Brylin, but I think he's still on the radar as a Plan B.

Considering how little experience Stevens has behind the bench it wouldn't shock me that they don't want two greenhorns out of three. Especially since there was a noticeable downgrade when we went from Oates-Robinson-Barr to Shaw-Stevens-Barr.

Sounds like Deboer said it won't be, unless Rich is spinning this (Could be with the way he writes things sometimes)

''DeBoer said Sergei Brylin is not the Devils' new assistant coach. The search is ongoing.''

I hope it's not. I want someone with a little experience. Sarge can go be a special assignment coach like Stevens was, and maybe in a couple years he can become a full time assistant.

Sarge was on the ice at the time, so a few had jumped to conclusions that he'd be the new assistant coach (even though he's often on the ice at this time of year). That was just clearing the air.

Again, I don't think it is or will be, but the option is still open.
It's doubtful.

We really need Loktionov to make it at centre on one of the top 3 lines. Otherwise, even with the addition of Brunner we are looking extremely thin all over.

Don't be surprised if either Rick Kowalsky or Tommy Albelin get the nod. Lou thinks very highly of them. But we'll see...

I don't really care who ends up behind the bench, I just want more movement on the power play. We always end up standing still and making super obvious, dumb plays.

Albelin sounds like a good possibility.

And who cares about brunner right now. Camp is like two months out

Now TG says the opener he alluded to yesterday was from an earlier version of the schedule and looks like its been changed, oh well.

I don't see Albelin getting it as we already have Stevens up here and I'm not sure Albelin brings other expertise to the table that we may need (but the Devils would know more about that than me). To me, Kowalsky would be a logical candidate.

Housley would be interesting aside from the same issues as Albelin above from the perspective he has a pretty good offensive mind aside from his background as a defenseman, and he knows how to run a PP and he might be a good mentor for a guy like Larsson.
