This.

If we can't move him, just bite the bullet for a year and that's that. I just can't wrap my mind over the fact that Lou actually gave two contracts to two brutal d-men during the same offseason.

Close to 7.5M$ of cap space for our two worst blueliners... that right there is the opposite of what you call "good asset management".

Outside of a clear cut talent like Perry, for example, I don't want Lou to sign another UFA that didn't play for us originaly, ever again.

This.....is why people don't want fan voting.

Lou is one of the best GMs ever. In any sport. He is prone to mistakes just like EVERY GENERAL MANAGER IN ANY SPORT EVER. A GM needs to make moves that should help the team. They don't all work but he did enough to get us people like Berneir and Carter last year and Butler and Poni (again) this year. None of those guys were former Devils yet you probably love them

Slight detour from the daily hate parade on Tallinder, if I may

Some praise on the team environment from Oates after last night's game...

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
Adam Oates spoke glowingly today about "the Devils' culture" and he and George McPhee agreeing they want to establish that with Caps.

Oates on Devs' culture: "no matter what Marty’s your goalie and we’re going to protect him and minimize the chances...and yet we’re going to score enough goals. This is how we do it. The culture has never changed and that’s one of the things I talked to George about. What the system will allow us to do is... that every single night the car is going to run itself and we just have to make sure we don’t derail it. Patrik Elias has been there a long time. So, he’s been doing that play for 15 years of his career, not just for a year and the culture has never changed."

(scraps of TGs tweets put together, it's a little rough)

Not sure how you can hate Oates, good guy, just not great and drawing up Power plays

I hope after we leave Saturday (with a win) he can get something on track. Want to see him succeed.

Then dress Peter Harrold for crying out loud, just get #7 out of there.

DeBoer said he hasnt decided on his lineup for Saturday yet other than Hedberg in net (vs. Holtby)

There is hope. Sit Tallinder

We'd have to get Volchenkov out for both Urbom and Gelinas in the lineup.

If Zids walks (No reason to re sign him either) and Tallinder is gone then one of Gelinas or Urbom takes that spot.

If Tallinder stays then no one has to be replaced. If Tallinder must stay though I'm cool with paying him that much to be the number 7.

I want Harrold to stay, but I feel he might walk due to lack of playing time. If we didn't have 8 defensemen he probably would get more playing time.

Don't get too excited. Pete said the same thing before the Ottawa game, and throughout the whole week before we played Washington.

Although the play he drew up on the PP against the Rangers where every Devil touched the puck ending with Kovy scoring was nothing short of beautiful.

I love them cause we got them for nothing. Spending during the UFA period automaticly garantees a overpayment, just that's just how things goes after july 1st. Lou went out and signed both players cause Paul Martin walked out on us, leaving a big hole on our blueline, wich wasn't all that great from the get-go.

Our Gm is a stud when it comes to everything else but signing free agents. He's done wonders for this franchise but his one weakness is the july 1st period and when you sign UFA's, you usually hand them long term deals and if they don't pan out, we're left with a pile of dog poop for a long long time.

so hes good at everything except things he has no control over? he went to the mat for kovy and parise, but sometimes thats just not enough. also, the best UFA signings are the ones who dont get signed. i mean, would ANYONE here want parise to re-sign with us at that price?

I wanna see any 2 of the old or overpaid guys out and one of Gelinas, Urbom, or Burlon in. We could always have Harrold I jump in if they aren't ready. So something like:
Greene-Larsson
Salvador-Fayne
Volchenkov/Zids-Urbom/Gelinas/Burlon
Harrold

I feel like hockey is one of those sports where a player can just fall off I didn't hate most of the signings when they happened (except Sal I thought he got paid for one playoffs worth of performance and to impress Zach) I just feel like free agency in hockey is a crap shoot if what happened in Minnesota happened in other sports the Wild would be champ faves but in the NHL it isn't the case.

How does he not have control over signing UFA's if he's the one offering them contracts?

I'm pretty sure the Devils get fined if Fayne is injured and it's not reported.

I don't think he's injured.

Volchenkov really hasn't been bad the last couple games. He can't handle the puck, but anyone who expects him to be able to after watching him for over 2 seasons needs a reality check. He's a shutdown D-man and has been fine lately.

Agreed and unless we're nitpicking he hasn't been the problem.

Tallinder has been the problem. He was okay in the Sens game, and he's had two very Foster esque performances in between.

he offered parise a contract, didnt he? theres only so much he can do

I'm talking about the players we actually inked to deals... you know, like #7 and Anton.

Parise left and that's just fine. I don't remember me talking about Parise in the first place, since he didn't resign with us.

True. Volchenkov has been "ok" since the arrival of #7. Volchenkov is playing better hockey then #7 and maybe that's why the spotlight has shifted away from him.

Throw Fayne in there and the spotlight will be back on A-Train IMO.

Volchenkov isn't playing fine relative to Tallinder. Volchenkov is playing fine regardless. If you truly believe that Fayne in over Tallinder makes Volchenkov the problem, then you're honestly just looking for someone to be the goat.
