No, no ,no! I like my Josefsons, Henriques, Larssons, and Faynes. :)

Urbom, Tedenby, Merril? Maybe. But that wont float with them. I can also see this Philly kid go right to the Flyers when he hits UFA.

Managment Question....

As a lifelong Devils fan, I just wanted to get a feel on what other fans are thinking about the situation we are/have gotten ourselves into at the moment... I am completely dumbfounded that we did not forfeit the 1st round pick this past draft year (even with Matteau seeming to have a positive upside at this early point). There is nobody that will argue against keeping 2011's 4th overall and taking Larsson, but with the depth in the coming years draft and the talent coming down the road in the 2014 draft, I do not understand keeping the 29th overall pick.

Even though we lost Parise after the draft, whichever side of the coin you look at from
A) As usual, we "overachieve" in the eyes of everyone else and the worst that would happen is that we forfeited 2012's 1st rounder, and end up in the same area in the 2013 draft and the Kovi debacle is concluded.

B) We have anywhere between a fair-bad year and end up picking anywhere between 1-14 (obviously as a fan you hope it is as high as possible) and get a high potential and possibly star of the future in the upcoming draft.

I will be extremely angry if we do have a bad year in either or both of the next two years and end up being forced to forfeit a top-10, god forbid top-5, or in the worst case a 1st overall pick.

Just wanted some other Devils fans thoughts on the issue. Thanks :help:

I could see him signing in NJ once he's a UFA. He's from Jersey, and if the Flyers can't afford him (I could see them using all their capspace up on Edler this summer), NJ is the closest thing to home.

I want to be optimistic about him signing here. I mean, when he tweeted "Seems like the thing to do is return home these days... hmm." shortly after Parise signed in MIN, I thought he meant, quite literally, New Jersey. Because since he's from the state, I don't think he would've said "Go home" if he was referring to the Flyers. New Jersey is his state, not PA. At the same time people seem to be pessimistic about it, so it's hard not to feel that way after a while.

Lou has done some questionable things (MacLean? Really?), but ultimately is one of the best GMs in the league.

In Lou we trust.

Would cost too much, they'd definitely want Henrique+.

Unless they're willing to take Merrill, Tedenby, and/or picks.

Hmm. I don't think Lou would get him but we did get kovalchuk for practically nothing. Cormier oduya and bergfors is like Merrill Tallinder and tedenby. Maybe some 2nd or 3rd picks. But I think this is different. Atlanta knew kovy wouldn't resign, I think he might resign in Anaheim.

He have some decent prospects. They very well may want something dumb like Bernier, Gionta, 2 prospects (probably defence) and 2 2-3rd round picks. That team lacks a gritty 4th line, and Bernier/Gionta are proven quantity.

Maybe I'm undervaluing Ryan, but he hasn't impressed me the last 2 seasons.

I would say you're seriously undervaluing Bobby Ryan...

He would cost at the very least a #2 D-man, an A+ rated prospect and a 1st round pick.

EDIT: I like Steve Bernier as much as the next guy, but you're calling him a proven quantity who has bounced around the league a lot, has been on waivers and is two years older than Ryan...

He scored 30+ goals and was a plus for the season (though not by much, so I kind of see what you're saying) I haven't watched him enough to form a solid opinion either way however.
Though... he is in the last year of his contract and had dropped hints he'd like to be moved. If Ryan still wants to be moved, that might sap his value.

Ryan is a consistent 30 goal scorer, and would definitely fill the goal void Parise left. That being said, I agree with Brit that it would cost a #2 center or defenseman, decent prospect, and a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Sucks that the season is shorter, but if Lou wants to bring him in ala Kovy and schmooze him, sees if he sticks, hey why not. Let's violate the spirit of the new CBA this summer, you know, just to reminisce and laugh.

Somewhere in NJ Tedenby is calling up Bergfors because his ears starting ringing.

We have the defensemen to spare, and save Larsson, they are all on the table imo, and I have no problem giving up a good prospect or draft pick(bird in hand and all), but all deals have to be contingent on Ryan signing a new contract.

Has Ryan actually been talked about being traded or is this just wishful thinking on our part?

Then there isn't going to be a deal. At best you'll be able to offer a contingent draft pick + every day player + Grade A prospect. We have a plentiful amount of D prospects so that can be any of them but the decent player to trade might be a problem.

Just hope Tedenby has a monster year or something.

Highly doubtful. Chances are we forfeit a 20 something pick in either of the next 2, not a big deal imo. Let's just hope Step On steps up. That is how the move will be judged.

Well not sure who the new CBA works, but if there is no deal, then I do not part with anything of note.

I guess now we have both of our beat writers make back handed comments about the team haha

Rich Chere @Ledger_NJDevils

Apparently fearful someone might see Adam Henrique skating on his own, Devils locked media out of the Pru Center until right before practice

I'm guessing this is in reference to a possible trade? Strictly joking?

That's funny. TG now Chere. Lou is gonna lock them all out permanently soon. Banning fans from games is next
