I'd like to see the Mets start with an outfield of Duda-Den Dekker-Valdespin.

Den Dekker is going to be pretty bad offensively. I'd be thrilled if he can post an OPS of .650. However his defense is Gold Glove-caliber out there. He'll save more runs defensively that he'll cost us offensively. Which is the opposite of Duda--unless he becomes a consistent performer offensively, the damage he does in defensively will net him a negative overall rating.

Valdespin is interesting. His defense should be at least average, even though he's just learning to play the outfield. If his pitch recognition continues to develop, he could be a nice offensive player, something the Mets desperately need.

1. Valdespin RF
2. Murphy 2B
3. Wright 3B
4. Davis 1B
5. Duda LF
6. Buck C
7. Tejada SS
8. Den Dekker CF

Bench: Turner, Recker, Lutz, Cowgill, Byrd, Baxter

Niese SP
Marcum SP
Harvey SP
Gee SP
Santana SP or McHugh/Hefner SP or long man

Burke RP
Edgin RP
Familia RP
Lyon SU
Francisco SU
Parnell CP

If that was the lineup for most of the season, and Valdespin and Duda perform, you could have an average offense, average pitching and an average-ish defense. I everything breaks right they could challenge for .500. More likely, they're a 70-win squad.

A lot depends on if Harvey is the real deal and whether Wheeler and D'Arnaud make contributions this season.

I also like Cowgill in the OF. A Baxter-Cowgill platoon wouldn't be the worst thing in right.

My problem is the organization's refusal to figure out what to do with Spin. Kid is talented and can maybe do something but the org just keeps jerking him around.

Byrd is their best outfielder. Right now, isn't Valdespin best suited at 2B?

Spin doesn't really help himself, though. Hah.

True, but I think there's a big split from on-field 'Spin and off-field Spin. Off field Spin is a ****** and somebody i'd never want to associate with, but on the field he's never really done anything too obnoxious, at least in the majors so far, and I think it's unfortunate there's a narrative that he acts like that. Away from the cameras he may be a troublemaker, but on the field he doesn't do anything to warrant his bad reputation.

Plus when scrubs like Justin Turner are exalted by Terry, but someone who can actually play like Valdy gets the short end of the stick, that bothers me.

Speaking of JT, Lutz should ABSOLUTELY start at 3rd if Dubs can't play opening day. Putting Turner there makes NO sense.

Just some Yankee related tidbits to share.

Jeter may be done playing for now. He may start the year on the DL as well.

TAMPA, Fla. -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter needed a cortisone shot in his inflamed left ankle, setting back his rehab and casting further doubt on his ability to be ready for Opening Day.

In fact, general manager Brian Cashman acknowledged the possibility that Jeter, who broke the ankle in October in the American League Championship Series and needed surgery to help mend it, could begin the season on the disabled list.

Chien-Ming Wang is speaking to the team again. Not much but it's meh.

Chien-Ming Wang is having a tryout of sorts over the Yankees minor-league complex. Throwing for Yankees scouts.

Tex might not play this season at all. His injury may be worse than reported.

Shaping up to be a crap season in general.

As for the Mets, I'm just excited to see how this young pitching staff can work.

Yes, I am a fan of both the Mets and the Yankees. Please don't kill me.

Byrd was horrendous last year and bad defensively. I don't think he's better than any of the others. He's had a good spring, but we'll see.

Spin profiles best at 2B, but when Murphy is healthy that's his spot. We know Murph is incapable of playing even a passable OF. Spin looks pretty good out there and we desperately need his bat.

Jeter out till April 5th. Yankee opening day lineup now 1) Kamala 2) Odie 3) Cano 4) Gargamel 5) Kim Cohen 6) Doink 7) Borat 8) Splinter 9) Howard stern

Vernon Wells????? Typical Yankee move from the most overrated gm in baseball. How about getting a MLB level catcher?

I heard this too. Not particularly thrilled with it. Last thing the team needs is ANOTHER old player who hits for low average.

Very overrated. I think it's time to cut ties with him. During the 90's dyansty era, he's been inherited mostly with Bob Watson's players.

Hal Steinbrenner, meanwhile, recently told reporters that, if he was presented with swapping former prospect Jesus Montero for Pineda, he'd make the trade again.

"That is a trade I would do again tomorrow," Steinbrenner told the Daily News. "It's going to be a good one. It's case by case. We do the same thing every year at the offseason. We leave no stone unturned, no possibility unlooked at. We do what we feel is best for the franchise and what we feel is best for us to field a championship-caliber team for the fans. That's not going to change. It never will."

Management is delusional.

Pineda had a surgery in May. It would've been the best case scenario to have him ready for Opening Day. Whatever, hopefully he's here in 2nd half and we let him loose out of the pen (that means Hughes and Nova are doing their jobs in #4 and #5 spots). The jury is still out on that trade.

So we go cheap with Martin and get outbid by Pirates and then proceed to pay up for Vernon Wells. Great asset management. Stewart/Cervelli is the worst catching duo in majors. Cubbies and White Sox pairs would probably give them a run for their money.

Jeezus. Yankee stadium will be empty by mid-season, guaranteed. Especially with a potential financial crisis looming.

One thing that Fatcessa is 100% right about is that Rangers & Giants fans are the most loyal in NY.

Everybody else will leave the team during **** times.
