The thing I love about Syndergaard is that he looks like Harvey when he pitches, both delivery wise and demeanor. He also has the late movement on his pitches that Harvey has, whereas Wheeler is more finesse and needs to learn how to control his pitches better. We've definitely seen flashes with Wheeler, like the SF start and last night taking a no hitter into the 7th. He still needs to compose himself when he gets in trouble a bit more, but he's going to be a good one.
Combine that with Montero, Mejia, and Niese, the Mets rotation is going to be incredible, possibly as soon as mid year in 2014. Now the key is figuring out how to flip this pitching into good OF prospects.
really, we are only just a few players away. pitching seems set but the bp needs to settle in a bit. parnell still scares me.
flores is tearing it up this year. murph is playing amazing as well, so 2nd base looks good.
we just drafted a young lefty 1st baseman as a hedge against ike.
david wright is in his prime and signed.
cf and ss, atleast defensively, seems good. you can win being strong up the middle even if they dont hit a ton.
d'arnaud is healthy should be our backstop with pop for the future.
corner of is our one glaring weakness. im hoping a package of 'spin and a pitching prospect or 2 (montero ?) can get us a guy with some pop that can play of. andre ethier comes to mind.
if we do an ethier deal it has to be for 2nd level prospects and la would need to pickup some/most of that awful contract.
we wont get a top young power of ( stanton or gonzalez) without parting with a big time arm and im not sure we will do that.
this organization is close. very close. lets hope we stay patient and not move top arms for a past his prime of'er.
