I trust Brad May a whopping 0 percent.

Hey, we at Sportsnet failed to break this story, so **** it, he's not going to a Canadian team... yeah!

Montreal is his home town, Toronto IS the best fit for him. If anything, "Canada" should be the favorite.

7-8 years for 7 mil for Letang. Damn right I'd take that. Letang is a really good 2 way defensemen who people underrate and just say he's one dimensional. Bringing Letang here makes Gardiner tradeable. As much as I love Gardiner many teams will want him and he could get us a pick in the top 15 easily. Leafs fans hate how our GMs never get top talent to come here when really you fans don't. You do but you want them to come here for no more then 6 mil per season. What top player in the league will take that kind of money when they can get a million or 2 more on a better team. We want to become a better team we get Letang so we don't have to worry about our back end and can just focus on our #1C issue.

So anyone willing to pay Letang +7 mill per over 8?

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=675573

Don't want at that price.

If we give up no assets, for sure. Letang is still very young, he's worth that on the open market easily. He's a lot better than Phaneuf, and that's not to discredit Phaneuf but Letang is a very dynamic defenseman.

No question we pay that if we give up nothing for him. You don't think twice.

Offensively maybe. I think DP is better all round

Anyone else want stalberg back?

JVR- Weiss/??- kessel
Lupul-Kadri- Clarkson
Stalberg- Grabo- kulemin
Orr-mcclement- d'amigo

Not bad and a quick third line that plays great d... Not as gritty but if you have to swap stalberg with Clarkson

No. I was a big fan of Stalberg when he was coming out of college and going pro, but as he's made his way into the NHL he's shown he's not really that good.

He put up a couple of decent seasons with Chicago, but he was carried by better linemates, and he sucks defensively.

All he really brings is speed but he has no finish. He often makes defensive mistakes and his linemates have to cover up for it. Ask Hawk fans how they feel about him, their mod Blackhawkswincup hates him

Not really. Truthfully Mac is better but this fanbase tends to favour players not with us.
Are you kidding me? MacArthur is looking at 4+ mill per year. Mac aint worth that. Thats why everyone has him gone, because no one is dumb enough to give him that.

Good player but not at that price, especially with Rielly and Gardiner in the wings.

Honestly it is unreal that some would not only pay this price but give up Gards, Kuli and a 1st to do so. No way in hell I would do it. Spend on a #1 C? Okay I get that but on Letang? Sorry but that is ridiculous.

Unless MacT is an absurdly terrible GM, he would never move RNH straight up for Gardiner. It's kinda ridiculous to think otherwise.

1st overall pick, stellar rookie season, insane potential. He could end up being one of the best centers in the game, and it's not a stretch at all to say that.

Gardiner is great, don't get me wrong, but he's not on that level. I'd move him and more for RNH in a heartbeat.
Well said. He's one of those Toew-esque centres. Every contender needs them.

I'm wondering what the interest in Lantendresse is from everyone here?

It sounds like we're probably going to go after a top-six forward (probably Clarkson) but we still need someone to replace Frattin on the third line. I think we need to be going with a big of size and someone with at least some skill; to me, Lantendresse could be a pretty good fit at a fairly cheap price.

Kulemin - Grabovski - Latendresse

It's unfortunate that we're going to lose the speed that Frattin brings but we did fine without him for the long stretch he was out of the line-up last season and I don't see why this season will be any different. Obviously there are guys like Raymond and Stalberg who can be considered if speed is what we're looking for; but they both lack any semblance of grit.

He's defensively responsible, but certainly not a two-way defenceman. I wouldn't be expecting him to shut down anyone. He tends to struggle against Tavares, who isn't exactly strong defensively. Up against the more solidified top lines, he'd be killed. Seeing that we already have a better shut down pairing with Phaneuf - Gunnars, I think a top pairing puck mover is what's required. For that reason, I could see Phaneuf doing well with Letang who can move the puck while Dion will be solely focusing on the defensive side.
