I would assume that one of Grabovski or Liles is moved just for the sake of gaining cap space. We aren't in that great of a position of space at all when you look at the future. Even if you just try and fill our roster it starts to get close

Now I know what Nonis meant by high end players being available. I truly think the Leafs are worried about being able to resign one of Dion/Kessel

If we can afford him I don't mind making the move for Clarkson. Can put up the goals and play a good style of game for this team. The real issue is making the cap work for this season, it should return to the pattern of consistently rising the year after so it's just a one year crunch.

Don't mind Fraser long as we pay him like a 6th defenceman. Was effective enough at that role, but it was a bit more iffy when his pairing occasionally was brought up to be the second pair.

UFA this year should be interesting. With the buyouts a lot of options out there.

this is one of those rare years where you can really revamp your team.... hopefully Nonis does a good job.

If Seguin is available, I'd pay anything other than Reilly and Kessel

Having Seguin on this team would be negative IMO.

Would bring life back to the trade that was just FINALLY put to sleep

Seguin $5.5M

Nope. Best of luck to him.

A lot of money for potential.Still young but Boston would want more than he is worth right now, which at $5.5M, isn't much.Rangers might look at him but won't offer much after the Nash deal,my guess he is worth less than Bozak right now.In fact why trade for Seguin at all when Bozie is less cash.

Thank you Boston!

Completely agree with the first half, completely disagree with the second.

But this year is very special. It's unlikely that the cap is going to drop again during this agreement, so Nonis needs to take advantage while he can. Hopefully we'll be signing his praises in a weeks time.

Should we try to get in on the supposed Tyler Seguin sweepstakes?

That's a very interesting question.

Nonis and co. will call, I little doubt of that. It'll really be up to Boston willingness to trade inside the division.

I have a offer in mind of what it may take, But I'm not sure if I'd do it.

They qaulified offers to maintain his rights but made the min. offer. Fraser is in a tight spot with guys like Gardiner,Fraser,Gunner,Franson in front of him and Reilly right behind him.He was valuable to us in the reg season and helped enforce that "Not with this group!" atmosphere in To. I like him at 6 but don't see To.ready to pay him(Guarantees) until they know how much they are spending on another Top 2 Dman.

For those who dont like him(I do) odds are he wont be here more than another year(Reilly factor).Holzer was not and is not better(plus/minus) or nearly as tough. And Kostka was one of the worst experiments ever(wow! that was painful to watch).

Phaneuff (Top2 UFA)
Gardiner Franson - (number1 pp unit)
Gunner (Fraser)/ Reilly.
Liles Komi.

i'd like to see this next year:

Phaneuff - Gardiner
Reilly - Franson
Fraser - Gunner

only thing that worries me a bit with this is having Reilly as our second pairing... though i heard the kid was good... i'd like to just throw him in the deep end and see if he can swim.

i'm happy with that defense going forward. i don't think we even really need to sign anyone else. obviously phaneuff is a good number 1 guy to have. i think gardiner is good enough and ready to play on the first pairing. franson is a great second pairing guy. fraser and gunner i think are a great third pairing. only question mark is reilly. there's no doubt that he'll be playing that role in a couple years, though i'm hoping he can play it today.

also.. the cap hit from this defense group is pretty low. Phaneuff makes a lot. Franson was a steal last year... but he'll still be pretty underpaid this year considering his production last year. and all the other guys are cheap. we also don't have much of cap hit from our goalies either.

so this group will give us a lot of cap space to spend on our forwards for the next few years.

if we sign another big name defender, i don't know how much of an improvement it will make cause i think those 6 guys all play their role well... and it just takes away cap space that we could be spending getting elite forwards.

that's why i wouldn't trade gardiner for letang. i still agree that our defense would probably be a bit better with letang over gardiner (though maybe not, gardiner is awesome)... but that could be the difference between having two really good forwards vs. two average forwards.

This is a really deep draft, it might be a good idea to move back a bit in the first round to add an extra second rounder.

Dallas has the 29th pick from Boston, and 2 second round picks. I can see them offering a second to move up to 21.

To Dallas:

21st overall

To Toronto:

29th overall + 40th overall

or

29th overall + 54th overall + 68 overall

Everyone knows the situation the Canucks are in ... stuck with Luongo or buy him out.

Love that kind of leverage. :sarcasm:

Nothing better than pulling the pin and expecting some one else to put it back in the grenade before it goes off. I think The Nucks should of left Skipper in charge rather than Gillis-gan:sarcasm:

Wow. Would be a huge trade.

What do you guys think about Clutterbuck? According to Bob McKenzie, he is likely to be dealt this weekend (https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/statuses/350994033973272578). He would be a great bottom six forward.

He's likely on Nonis's radar, Although, it seems Nonis is more focused on leaving NJ with our #1C, then he is a 3rd liner.

Nonis wants to go big, I wouldn't be suprised if the Leafs acquired Clarkson's rights, and walked out with a new Center.

I also expect Komi to be dealt for something, an expiring contract, or a 7th rounder, likely from the Isles

Thats horrible value, your not trading down 8 spots and 14 spots in the 2nd for only a 68th overall pick.

How? If we don't give up Kessel, Rielly or Gardiner, it would be nothing short of a steal.

Not a fan of his game at all.

I feel like the Bruins are trying to turn him into Phil Kessel, which has hurt his natural development as a centerman. He doesn't have the explosiveness, shot or stickhandling of a Kessel.

Yeah and pigs will fly.

Not even close.

Komi has a bigger cap hit then he gets paid, and only has a year left. He's still a serviceable D-Man, he started off good last year before being waived.

Isles, Tampa etc love those contracts, and for a 7th, or a expiring contract (not a NHl player, just a no name) is very small and very possible. If say its a certainty

Where is Chuck when we need gossip!

He's been absolutely spot on this offseason! From saying Weiss and Clarkson for sure will hit free agency months ago, that Clutterbuck was being pursued by Toronto, to Vinny-TOR scenario which was squashed by the NHL and now his RFA qualifiers were spot on. He even left Fraser off the list.

Hopefully the Clutterbuck does end up a Leaf along with Clarkson!
