what does that term mean?
MN had it. When a team gets closer to the draft they build prospect info jackets. Its largely what I do for a living (in two stages, one is early on and just a general gathering of stats and then as the draft approaches a second more detail oriented gathering of every stat along with coaches notes and any media available.). Then they add in their own staff scouting reports along with any CSS etc reports.
They don't make one for every player in the draft or most teams don't and teams like the Kings only put together jackets (packets etc) on players that they intend on investing further time and interest in with the notion that they could consider him a draft able prospect. All of the players in the first two rounds or as seen to be so by CSS and the rest are all available to every team but after that it comes down to each teams own scouting staff and research. That and specialists who gather info for agencies and players.
Hey Tonelli, do you have any info on Nic Petan?
H e has average size but should fill out at 5'11". Has generational hands. The rest of his game is good to very good but not good enough to make him a superstar. His skating and balance are very good. He is a mid body balanced skater that generates his speed from his instep more so then his entire foot so he can get up to speed pretty well but tops out at average.
His balance is good enough to where he can pivot with the all but the very best of them. He is a good smart center who sees the ice really well. He can be overly aggressive with the puck and takes too many chances down low but he follows the play well enough to where his errors don't usually end up with him being burned.
A scout I know used the word "tenacious" to describe his play with the puck and that fits really well. He hangs on to the puck with the very best. I saw him a few times in Portland this season and he is one of those guys who stands out when he is on the ice.
His size is going to make him drop in the draft but that is a mistake. He is an honest 5'9" (and a little) and doesn't look small. I see him growing at least an inch and more than likely two. I saw him last season and he has grown an inch and a half since then.
If he were 6'2" he would be in the top 6 of this draft. He is a nice kid but a little hard to read. He is affable but a bit quiet.
The only other thing I had written on him is "Kid is full of hustle and compete". I like him but believe he will only be a center. I haven't seen him do very well when he shifted to the wing.
That is literally everything I have on the kid.
I am sure others will disagree but he sure looks like a special player to me. I see allot of similarities with Plekanec only with much more hustle.
