Zach Nastasiuk. Given Futa's connections to Owen Sound, he HAS to be on their radar. He's a tough forward.

Hudson Fasching. Big potential power forward, already 6'2, but oozes character. He has spent his life taking care of his two siblings with genetic conditions that leave them nearly blind, unable to walk, and unable to talk. He's also committed to Minnesota, and the WCHA is the NCAA division most of Lombardi's collegiate prospects play. His rights are owned by Kelowna.

On an interesting note: As long ss Lombardi's been a GM here, he has drafted at least one participant of the CHL top prospect's game EVERY year.

Both of those make sense but I think DL likes the smaller WCHA schools like St. Cloud, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Denver where the players get a lot of solid coaching and development time. Minnesota may fall into the Michigan category in DL's eyes as a school that gets tons of big name recruits but doesn't do much on the developing, and coaching side to make them better players...

My thoughts;
The Kings will draft 1 goalie, at least 1 overage junior or college player, 1 euro boom/bust forward, 1 junior player with a connection to either Owen Sound or Sault St. Marie, and 1 american junior player that will go the college route...

That league scares me when it comes to d-men... Look at how great Deslauriers looked in the Q and at development camps and then look at what a disaster he was his rookie year in Manchester... Just not a good league at developing d-emen. Especially stay at home d-men.

But was his value really going to get lower by waiting till the trade deadline? With some of the prospects being moved in trades recently, we probably could have squeezed some extra value out of him.
 
I think Lombardi doesn't draft BPA. He drafts BVA with the V standing for "value." He'll look at things from character to play style and position...thus his Hickey over Voracek pick. In the end, if you're not drafting for need, might as well pick the player who will be worth the most in trade for later. Then he drafts by need. He rarely drafts BPA at all.

I think DL has shown he values PMDs first, especially RH shots, then two-way centers with upside second, and then the rest. Obviously character and grit, and now Sutter-size and skating come in to play now. The skewing of values is significant enough to affect BPA quite a bit. For example it's better to him to draft a PMD RH shot that's one tier less talented than a winger forward because if they both develop, the PMD will be worth more than two tiers more.

Also, DL has shown very clearly how he likes his highest paid players, the players most talented and thus take up the most cap, to be Dmen, centers and then goalie. And we have that right now with Doughty and Kopitar, and then Quick.


As for drafting goaltenders, I think we don't have enough goalies of a certain developmental level (2-3 years in dev, 1 year away from NHL) but I doubt we find one in the draft unless that player somehow is an overager. I'd rather sign a 25 yo as a UFA or trade for one with a low pick than draft one this year in the first four rounds.

Did I miss the part where the Kings don't have a second round pick this year? :huh:

Also the Kings still have something like 10 picks in this draft... Scouts have plenty of work to do consider most are late rounders that require a lot of scouting.

sorry! been working too much and getting ready for my biggest exhibit in 2013.
They type of show that goes from 8 AM to 10 PM and lucky to get a restroom break, let alone get something to eat. Glad we have a #2 pick!

I don't want him, at least not where he'll likely go in the draft. I just don't have the feeling he'll be a top two line player.

Considering we have Berube and Gibson (and theortically Jones as well) needing starting spots at the pro level next year, signing a guy who will need to jump straight to the pros isn't something that would make much sense. Drafting a kid that can sit in juniors for a few years and not tie up a contract slot as well gives the Kings flexibility and gives the goalie a place to be the starter and get a lot of game action.

He is hit or miss most nights. I saw his first game in CO and he looked really good. Then the next couple weren't so good.

He also had an injury that had him miss games the year before.

If he ends up like his brothers he should be a solid player.

Oh I know he has his flaws, but I figured on blood lines alone someone would have tossed a 7th round pick at him. Jared Staal earned a 2nd round pick just because of who his brothers were. For some reason that I fail to comprehend, bloodlines plays a very big role in where a player gets drafted to often. Look at Wayne's brothers, or the Sutters. Many Sutter's were a 1st round pick, yet how many really deserved that?
 
Do you think it would be in our interest's to draft players from Junior A?

For the above post, Jordan Subban. He will be drafted way to high. I hope we dont draft him.

Lukas Sutter is looking like horrendous pick by WPG early in the 2nd round last year :banghead:

Agreed completely, bloodlines is the most overrated "attribute" by a stupidly large margin...

I never cared for him at all in the MJHL when he was with the Blues. I was surprised he was drafted and I haven't seen him play since he was drafted, so I am curious how he is developing. His foot speed wasn't very good from what I recall (decent by MJHL standards, but that's not a good thing). He's really going to have to rely on his positioing to amount to anything, unless he's improved much since he was drafted.

Would like this pick if it were like 5th round or later. Don't think he's worthy of a pick too much earlier. Maybe in the 4th.

What I'm saying is that particular need won't be filled but I'm not saying don't draft a goaltender if you expect him to hope to have a shot three or four years from now...or be trade bait in two or three.

Yes I am, you're correct. I just seen the last name and jumped to conclusions.

I haven't been to an MJHL game in about two years now, so I don't have anything to say about Paul, just hope he's got a bit more talent than his brother did. It's not that Peter's a bad player, just he doesn't have anything that really stands out and makes him a good NHL candidate in my opinion either.
 
Paul is a 95, commited to Western Michigan. This was his second MJHL season.
He was actually drafted in the second round of the WHL draft by Portland.
