Providing no trades... hoping for

9 - Solid, big scoring winger. top 6 at least. top 3 hopefully. franchise player

39 - RW, can score, can be physical. young Clarkson-type

100 - Puck moving D guy, possible future decent PP blueliner

160 - Maybe another RW. Would consider taking Brodeur (feels odd saying that) but not sure if he's the best use of a 6th

what are you guys hoping for?

9 - First liner

39 - Productive NHLer

100 - NHLer

160 - NHLer

After the first round, I think you throw position out the window and take the BPA. If they were to take a D with #39, I wouldn't be upset if the value was right. The guy we take at #39 is 2+ years away so who knows what our depth chart looks by then.

Idk if it has been discussed in here, but while at work tonight, I was couldn't happen to remember the draft from 2 years go. Sean Coturier was estimated a top 4 pick by the time the draft came, yet he fell all the way to 8. I remember reading someone's analysis that teams in the 4-8 range will usually hone in on one or two guys and have their mind set before it is their turn. You all it will take is one person to draft off the board a bit , say picking Domi early, and one of these top 8 guys will fall into our lap and we can have the same situation on our hands as the Flyers did. A Guy projected 3 or 4 picks ahead landing in our lap.

Just some food for thought

I think this draft has a lot of potential for movement trade wise. Calgary and Columbus have 6 picks between them alone. Then there's names like Letang and Jonathan Bernier who are almost assuredly going to be traded before the season starts and 1st round picks could easily be on the cards in return for them.

Its very possible someone falls to us. I'm hoping for Nichushkin. I'd love Barkov as well, but that just doesn't seem possible.

The fact that Lou has said we're looking forward gives me hope. I'd also not be surprised to see us move up a couple of spots.

At any rate, the mocks are all a bit weird at the moment. You can tell which idiots don't follow the Devils

I'm leaning fwd heavily in the first 2 rnds. Granted if D man is clear cut bpa, u go that way, even in the first(say if Seth is only D man taking top 8) but if it's foggy as to who bpa is, I think u clearly go with a fwd.

I think the "don't draft a D" is really ridiculous. Let's not forget, we questioned Coleman and Boucher being drafted in the mid rounds because we were stacked at wing and needed D-help. Funny how that works.

Around 2015, when our 2nd round pick starts to become NHL ready (assuming), the only D-man who is a lock to be here is Larsson. Everyone else has an expiring contract within the next two seasons, except Volchenkov who could be a buyout. Merrill, Burlon, Gelinas, Urbom, and Severson have a combined 15 games at the NHL level.

Take the BPA if it's a D-man. I have no problem even taking Ristolainen at #9 if the big 6 forwards are all gone.

Well, I should have said it the other way around. Take a D-man if he's the BPA.

Severson was BPA and could be our best dman down the road, definitely go BPA. You can fix issues on your team now with other methods, but you always want the best talent in your organization.

Don't want Ristolainen though.

9-Shinkaruk

39-Nastasiuk, also would be pleased with McCoshen or Carrier

100-Subban

160-Slepyshev

:dunno:

Well I think mid rnds are different.

And I have changed my stance on drafting a d-man in early rnds, thought it out of the question a month or two back. Now I think if d-man is the clear bpa, then u have to go that way even with the 1st pick (although prefer a trade down if that is the case).

But overall Im still a strong lean towards fwd.

I know a lot of fans think we should get Shinkruk at nine but does no one thinks that Nurse is a better all around player then Shinkruk? I know they are different positions and all but I thought Nurse was a highly regarded prospect. If he's available at number nine I'd consider taking him.

It might actually make sense for us to draft him. Yes we don't really need another defenseman but I look at it like this. If Nurse falls to us and we take him because he is clearly the BPA this gives us enough extendable defensive prospects to trade for a top six forward.

Once again Flames fans said Urbom + 2nd would do it for Michael Cammalleri. You'd basically be exchanging Urbom for Nurse and still get the relatively young top six forward we have been looking for. I think we could re-sign most of everyone that is UFA/RFA that we are looking to bring back and still make another signing (Like a Briere on a 1-2 year deal as well.)

We'd be filling up forward needs as well as stocking up on defensive prospects to replenish our blueline for the future.

Cammy-Lokti-Kovy
Elias-Zajac-Briere
Zubrus-Henrique-Clarkson
CBGB
Extras: Yayo, Teddy, Barch

Yes you'd having to move Zubs to the left but look at that lineup. That lineup is deep as hell and is an instant contender and not to mention something I'd imagine that wouldn't too unrealistic as well.

How long is Cammy signed for? I would not mind him in a Devils sweater one bit.

I actually think he's on a one year deal but from what I read he wants out of Calgary. Even if the guy doesn't drink the Lou-aid then we gave up nothing but I'd imagine he wouldn't be too hard to re-sign. It's not traitor Zach we'd be dealing with here...

Then again I'm not a GM so I have no clue what I'm talking about when it comes to re-signing players.

don't really know anything about the guy you recommend at 39 and not overly high on shinkaruk for some reason, but I definitely wouldn't be upset with this

He does look promising, but a project, and there are some players if available I would take before Bailey.

Pecse, Olivier-Roy, Nastasiuk

Not worried about a project with the second round pick. I think Pesce and Olivier-Roy are third round guys. They would be a reach at 39. Nastasiuk will probably be a mid to late second round pick, but his upside is probably a solid 3rd line player. I think Bailey has the potential to be a top 6 scoring power forward if he develops properly.

We will see in a few years how they turn out, but I think Pesce will be a steal in the 2nd round and Oliver-Roy has the moxy to score goals-I like his game and he's still got a ways to go to fill out.

I like Bailey too, just not as much.

Here's a solid write up on Pesce:

In an interview on TSN with the first four "ranked" players, Mackinnon, Drouin, Jones, and Darnell Nurse were quizzed on stupid stuff. But one question to Nate Mackinnon was if you were picking first, who would you select? He hardly thought about it and said Josh Morrisey right off the bat. He said he was great in the room and a really good (underated) player. I haven't seen much on the guy.

Also, Devs pick
#13 (9th overall traded to Jets for Burmistrov/and #59 overall 2nd round) Lazar or Domi
#39- Jacob De La Rose or Baptiste
# 59- Jordan Subban
100- Nick Moutrey
160- obscure Russian player that will never come to No. America
