Personally, I think Falk would look fine out there with a competent defensive partner.

I hope so too, but based on what? He looked bad with Johnson and he looked bad with Bickel. His play on Wideman's goal was pretty terrible last night, tough to blame that on his d partner.

It looks to me like he's trying to do too much out there covering for his partners. Not that his level of play would be so significantly higher if he wasn't, but it seems to have been a factor.

I thought Falk looked good in game 1. Last night, not so much. Who was his partner in game 1?

I really didn't think Falk looked that bad for a #7. Obviously, he's not a guy I'd want on the bottom pairing all season long, but I don't think he's nearly the liability some comments are making him out to be.

Everyone looked like garbage for the first period. Hell, J Moore threw the puck around the boards from behind the net, to the other team, and almost had a goal against as a result. He's a favorite (rightly IMO), and Falk is a big bruiser, therefore Moore's bad play is forgotten and Falk's is used as evidence that he's Bickel 2. That was a mess of a period from everyone.

Overall, I didn't think Falk was that bad. Bad enough that he's not a regular in the lineup, but not so bad that he shouldn't be a 7 or should be honestly compared to Bickel, who has made dozens of terrible, terrible plays in many different games for this team.

Hey guys I must have missed something, but where is JT Miller? Did he play in the 2nd preseason game vs. the Flyers? I missed most of that one.

Johnson and Bickel are bad.

Does it really matter? He looks good out there but it's not like he'll get into any games unless one of our guys is hurt.

He is a great #7. He looks fine but nothing to write home about.

He's had some nagging injuries. A hamstring. It's costing him a chance to make the team.

here is the lineup for the game vs Oilers...

im shocked their is no gameday thread yet..

According to Steve Zipay of Newsday, this is the Rangers lineup tonight against the Edmonton Oilers

Goalie: Martin Biron and Cam Talbot

Defense: Aaron Johnson and Tommy Hughes, Marc Staal and Conor Allen, Ryan McDonagh and Dan Girardi.

Forward:

-Benoit Pouliot, Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello.
-Marek Hrivik, Oscar Lindberg, Danny Kristo.
-Chris Kreider, JT Miller, Arron Asham.

Miller to play his first game tonight....

im shocked Andrew Yogan hasnt been given another game along with Michael Kantor. both seem to look good against the Flyers....

Yes, I think he's in danger of getting bumped.

I also think (and may be making excuses) that the line he's been on has been ****** for him to try to make an impact on. Nash isn't going full speed or trying his hardest and who knows with Richards. They just don't look interested or fully engaged and Kreider isn't good enough to be a catalyst on that line by himself. Getting him some time away from that line is probably for the best.

a year and a half ago he joined the team and was told "just play and have fun" and he looked like a solid and promising top six forward with some things to work on (namely defense). After a year of coaching from Tortorella and the Hartford coaches, he looks tentative and un-engaged. Again, maybe making excuses, but the previous coaching staff really does not seem to have brought out the best in him or found a way to use his best attributes. You hardly ever see his speed because of the terrible breakout and transition game the Rangers have

Astute.
However, it may take a month ish for all the dust to settle, but when it does and it is clearer who makes the squad and who is on what line, etc., I expect w/better talented roster and better system the breakout and transition game will be vastly improved.

You heard it here first..... Kreider will deliver, maybe not immediately, but soon enough.

Shocked no Yogan also. Kreider again tells me AV not happy p

I'm sure this is true, but perhaps he wants to see him with a guy he had chemistry with (JT), also. You know, instead of Babar on skates aka Richards.

Would anyone be willing to enlighten me on how the new Swedes have looked as well as Kreider and Miller and any other kids we may have who have a shot of making the team? Kristo for example?

Fast has looked good to me. Very smart and very quick. Good two way game, more of an assist man than a goal guy so far.

Lindberg hasn't been quite as good as I hoped he'd be. Hasn't been bad by any means, but he's been a bit underwhelming after his incredible TC performance for me personally.

Miller has been rehabbing a hamstring injury until tonight. He'll get his first game tonight and we'll see how he does. I liked his game last year, but he was in over his head.

Kristo has been pretty good, but hasn't really been able to finish his chances. Gets a little too fancy sometimes and tends to try to shoot too much instead of making plays.

Kreider is a bit of an enigma. To me, he doesn't look much different than last year. Still looks a bit unengaged. I wish he'd hustle harder and hit more. We saw some examples last year, but he hasn't picked up where he left off IMO.

Thanks a lot for the update. Where do you see Lindberg fitting in once Stepan is back in particular in regards to Richards? Do you think they will put Lindberg on the wing? He played wing in the WC I know. Not really sure how our center depth is looking.

Kreider is so frustrating. Agree he needs to be more assertive. I'm not sure if he is thinking the game too much instead of just reacting or if he seems himself as a more cerebral type of player. In a way he reminds me of Dubinsky once he slumped badly here in that he forgot to keep doing the things that made him successful to begin with.

I think the organization really likes Lindberg at center. Aside from him, they really have very little at the center ice position coming up. Miller plays both wing and center. St Croix is a long-shot. Kristo, Hrivik, Kreider, Fast, Kantor, Bourque, Yogan, Nicholls are all wingers.

My guess is that if he doesn't make the team as a center, he is in the AHL fine-tuning his game to the NA rink. Also, due to the fact that there are (4) good young players who project more as wingers in the future in Miller, Fast, Kreider, Hrivik, I would think they would prefer to keep them if a wing spot is all that is available.

At this point, I don't think Lindberg makes the team. Hes been pretty meh, and looks a little soft/overwhelmed by the physical North American game. He can use some time in the AHL to get acclimated.

Out of the kids, I think Fast and Hrivik have looked the best.

These are my feelings as well. I think Lindberg will start in the A and probably find his way into doing some serious damage against other AHL teams in a few months. He'll be up at some point, likely when the first injury at center comes around.

I definitely think they want him to play center going forward. As Viper pointed out, the depth is thin there and with his defensive skills and faceoff ability, it just makes the most sense. EDIT: Richards was also awful on faceoffs last night and gave the puck away constantly. I'd bet that he'll be sent to the wing if the team wants Lindberg up, assuming that Richards doesn't somehow find his game again.

I agree that Fast and Hrivik have looked the best. Fast in particular has really impressed me.

I think AV is in a tough spot regarding Richards. I can see him forcing Richards into a first line role and giving him a long leash before he pulls the plug. The organization doesn't want the embarrassment that Richards is finished early into a new season with a new coach. I think we can expect tons of anger at the beaver over the coming weeks. I hope I'm wrong but of what I've seen Richards' so called off season work out regimen has been nothing but a gust of hot air. His skating has not improved, his decision making is still poor, and he just can't keep up to the speed of the game

AV has given richards plenty of chnaces and has mixed it up. I mean everyone that plays with richards seems to have a hard time. It was tough watching Richards last night. he had nash and kreider open on teh rush a few times and he couldnt make one pass, He used to be known as a good passer

This. I've also liked Asham's play myself
