He beat up on poor teams. I think he scored all but 2 of his points in 2 blowout games.

He was Finland's best forward in the Sweden game (same thing when the tourney was in Edmonton/Calgary). I don't think he was great last WJC, but he wasn't getting his A-Rod on and only scoring when the team was up/down three goals.

Golden Finnish - Rasmus Ristolainen scored 9:42 into overtime as Finland stunned host Sweden 3-2 Sunday to win the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship. The win marks the third gold medal for Finland at the tournament, after previously winning gold in 1998 and 1987.

Ristolainen Scores In OT, Finland wins WJHC Gold! - The Canadian Press - Official TSN Website - TSN.ca - Sunday, January 5.

Malmo, Sweden - Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen scored at 9:42 of overtime to give Finland its third World Junior Hockey Championship, 3-2 over Sweden on Sunday. Ristolainen picked up the puck along the right boards, beat defenceman Robert Hagg as he cut in front of the goal and slid a backhander under goalie Oscar Dansk's right leg pad. Ristolainen has one goal in 19 games this season for Buffalo. Finland also won the under-20 event in 1987 in Czechoslovakia and 1998 at home in Helsinki.

Sweden's tied it at 2-2 on Christian Djoos' power-play goal with 9:07 left in the third period. Djoos beat goalie Juuse Saros with a slap shot through traffic from the high slot. Finland's Era Lindell scored 28 seconds into the game, and Lucas Wallmark tied it on a power play at 7:53 of the second. Finland regained the lead 45 seconds later on Nashville draft pick Saku Maenalanen's goal.

Saros, also drafted by Nashville, made 35 saves, and Chicago Blackhawks prospect Teuvo Teravainen had three assists to help Finland hand Sweden its first loss in seven games in the tournament. Teravainen won the scoring title with 15 points on two goals and 13 assists, and Maenalanen topped the goals list with seven.

Russia Beats Canada For Bronze At World Juniors - The Canadian Press - Official TSN Website - TSN.ca - Sunday, January 5.

For the first time in more than 30 years, Canada officially has a medal drought at the World Junior Hockey Championship. Canada dropped the bronze medal game to Russia by a score of 2-1 on Sunday, marking the first time it has failed to win a medal in back-to-back tournaments since the Program of Excellence's inception in 1982.

Russia stormed out to an early 2-0 lead over Canada on Sunday thanks to first period goals from Mikhail Grigorenko and Eduard Gimatov. It would provide the basis for a lead Russia would never surrender. Canada would get on the board mid-way through the third with defenceman Josh Morrissey giving the Canadian team some life, but it would not be enough as the Russians would beat Canada to claim bronze for a second straight year.

Andrei Vasilevski turned away 28 of the 29 shots Canada threw at him on Sunday, improving his all-time World Junior record to 11-4 over the course of three tournaments. He was named Russia's Player of the Game. Aaron Ekblad was named Canada's Player of the Game.

when we were drafting at 8

Ok, I was going to say that if you were referring to the entire 2013 Draft, Seth Jones is better than either--not a knock on our guys--so that would not be an accurate statement. I think most pundits felt that Risto and Zads were the 2nd and 3rd best defensemen available. Luckily for us, Philly went with Morin, Winnipeg went with Morrissey, and the Isles went with Pulock.

Forgot about him. So I suppose there were some who had Nurse as the 2nd/3rd best defenseman. This, however, seems to jog my recollection that Bakes really liked Nurse, though. Doesn't matter at this point, I guess.

It's great to see Zadorov put pucks in the net at the wjc and also see him put up some early points in his first few games in London. I hope he really gets his offensive game on track and becomes a well rounded two way dman.

Nurse easy to forget right now, seeing that he didn't make Canada's wjc team.

Selection BS. He definitely deserved it. He logs Massive minutes in the O, he plays against the opposing teams best players, night in, night out, he's also their Captain and works really really hard. I think, when it's all said and done, the defensman ranking in the 2013 draft will be:
Jones
--------
--------
Zads
Risto
Nurse
