Next year the tournament is split between Montreal and Toronto. I suspect that in the choices made this year that was in the thought processes of those choosing the teeamthey wanted some players with experience this year to have a good chance next year. Sweden was known to e loaded with a very skilled and experienced team. Russia had 15 players who lose their eligibility this year. So did they figure they were underdogs and pick some younger guys?

Bob Mackenzie nails it.

"It's between the ears, not on the ice."
You play the game on the ICE!

Canadians preaching its our game and lame excuses like everybody builds teams to just beat us is poppy ****! Countries are building teams to win this tourney not just against Canadian hockey.

I love it as the autopsy has begun and now TSN will have a script made in heaven by talking about this for months.

And pleeease do not say HC is using young guys just to have experience for winning in Canada next year. What is the reason for not winning the last 5 years?

Yes, you play the game on the ice. Making decisions made between your ears.

When you watch the last couple Canadian teams lock up and stop playing their game in the 3rd period, again, and again, and again... That's the hallmark of thinking too much from overcoaching.

It also doesn't help that certain aspects of Canadian hockey culture treats anything other than gold a complete failure.

You play the games on the ice but if you go into the game not wanting to lose instead of wanting to win, you're not going anywhere.
Sutter is so bad... brings a 16 year old to the tourney, benches him after he takes a penalty, and continues to give him a prime role? Leier was horrible this year. And how the **** are players supposed to establish chemistry when the coach is changing the lines every other shift. And, the Offense was just... terrible. I liked the 4th line and drouin's line (with Hudon) but the middle six was such a cluster**** McDavid shouldn't be there, Reinhart is good enough to be there but not on the shutdown line... they should've gone with:
Hudon-Drouin-Mantha
Lazar-Horvat-Laughton
Leier-Petan-Reinhart
Anderson-Gauthier-Rychel
McDavid
Honestly I would've rather had a defensive specialist as the 13th forward. Maybe someone like Girard
Nurse wasn't even invited which explodes my brain, Severson>>>Dumba, Bigras is not an appropriate 7D, Dumba could've been the 7th, put him on the PP. Our shutdown pairing had a 17 year old.... Usually, WJC teams are carried by 19 year old vets, the most impressive players were ,16,17 and 18 years old.....

Correctly put, "Canada should not win 5 Golds in a row and should NEVER lose 5 Golds in a row"

Hockey Sumit in the works?

I really hope he goes back to JR...coming back here and playing 4th line minutes is going to turn the clock back on any developing he did over there - and I just don't trust Nolan to give him a fair shake.

Was he the NYI coach when Yashin decided to **** off to Russia?

I always like watching CAN-RUS games as they have the most history. In the past the games have the best energy, high scoring and a lot of passion. I thought CAN looked very listless throughout the game today though. Very disappointing.

yep...

Yashin finally returned to the line-up on March 8, 2007, and posted 13 points (five goals and eight assists) in 16 games helping the Islanders clinch the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. In the first round series against the Buffalo Sabres, Yashin registered no points in five games and at times was demoted to the fourth line by coach Ted Nolan.[13] The Islanders decided to buy out the remainder of Yashin's contract in June 2007

Can't wait for Grigo to come back and Nolan to destroy any confidence he gained over there.

You just had to find one the funnier pictures that describes what some of us think will happen, didn't you?

Grigs played alright there, definitely developed some and gained confidence. But I heard some people talking about how he kind of didn't really play the full 200 foot game. I didn't get to see many WJC games, can someone confirm or deny this?

It's more at the general attitude of that poster, and others, that just assumes everything that every happens with any player in this organization will be the worst possible outcome.

Grigs was noticeable in the games I watched. He wasn't superb defensively, but that's ok. People shouldn't expect him to be Jochen Hecht or Michael Peca.

Grigs played a very good 200 foot game.

International hockey is very good right now. Sweden went through a period where they couldn't produce players because they played a defensive system. Now they have a ton of very talented young players. They adjusted.

USA won the gold last year, lost the quarterfinal this year.

Canada needs to change their philosophy a bit. They are stuck on this "big, energy line" leaving skilled players behind while the other countries come loaded for bear with offensive players. Guys like Gauthier, Rychel, Anderson, Leiir had minimal effect.

Horvat was a major disappointment for Canada as well.

Too bad Possler is injured. It would have been neat to see Sabres prospects win Bronze, Silver and Gold from 3 nationalities.

So with Teuvo being similar to Kane and near NHL ready in 2 years ish, Does that allow Chicago to let Kane walk or trade him to Buffalo to spend there money elsewhere and have Teuvo fill Kane's spot? Nice thinking right? :sarcasm: Mabye Kane will be more mature by then as well

Risto... just watching that last shift where he repeatedly makes good decision after good decision. Love this guy.
