Andrew Shaw from the Blackhawks was also a 5th round pick 139th overall in 2011. 10 pts 6 goals in 27 games...

He specifically said "stars," not third liners. Even though Shaw was an excellent pick in the 5th round. Stars got Benn out of the BCHL. Pretty damn impressive.

Fasth's team lost 6-1 today. He didn't have any points. The series is tied 1-1 now.

at least he made the NHL.... i know he isnt a star.. he is only 21 and seems like he has been in the NHL for a while... solid drafting by the Hawks..

Kreider takes so much **** on these boards. Kreider is the only young player to struggle in his first full pro season. What a joke. Jake Gardiner(2nd year). Mikael Granlund. Sven Baertschi. Sean Couturier(2nd year). Kreider and the first 3 players in that group are in the AHL right now. The other one is really struggling.

totally agree man! that goes with all our young players, MDZ, Step, Miller, Hags, Mcd.. got to be patient.. they will have ups and downs just got to see them play through it, they wont disappoint!!

Michigan is one win away from the CCHA semi-finals played at the Joe. They win the CCHA and its automatic bid to the NCAAs. Nieves was scoreless last night. Trouba had two goals. Will that guy turn pro this spring? Trouba is expected to return for his sophomore season. Thankfully, Pittsburgh passed on Trouba.

Add a certain 21-year old 'offensive' defenseman we all know on the Ducks who has 2 points in 17 games, despite averaging 20 mins/game!
Young players hit brick walls now and again. Give them time to figure it out.

Fasth's team lost 6-1 today. He didn't have any points. The series is tied 1-1 now.

If the top 4 wins their series, Fasth and Lindberg plays each other in the semis.

I'd say 50/50 all top 4 teams wins. Two are locks, two will be tougher.

Don't kid yourself that every team has the resources to scout every place and see every player. That's one area where the original six teams and a few others (i.e. Philadelphia) have a big advantage. Dollars still count. I know for a fact that the Coyotes are very thin in Euro scouting and can't spend a lot of money canvassing the world for players. One case in point is Sam Noreau. Baie Comeau is an out of the way place and the Rangers worked extra hard to get out and see him. Heard they were one of the few teams that really had a line on him.

It's a big world and it takes a lot of resources to cover the entire hockey universe. The Rangers are very fortunate to have those resources and put them to good use.

Lindberg with a secondary assist in a 4-1 win and the best player of the game imo.

Thanks for the update. So he has 4 assists (no goals) through 3 games, all of which his team won big. It's good to hear that he was the best player on the ice. To me, that's a big deal in the playoffs when everyone is hustling extra-hard and you can't be the best player simply because you work harder than others. In the playoffs, it takes talent in addition to hard work.

it would be nice if the NYR can actually draft their own superstar instead of trading for someone elses in the first round... enough of these safe 3rd liners with 2ed line potential...

They did in '07, but he had a freak accident in a game in the KHL. RIP Cherepanov :shakehead

So flyers lucked out with Giroux on the first rd. We lucked out on the 7th once with Hank, in the 6th twice with Fasth and Hagelin.

Give Stepan, Kreider and Miller sometimes. They may turn into that.

I wouldn't say this just yet. He still needs to come to NA first.

Fogarty puzzles me, why is he typecast as a checking center? Why hasn't he produced offensively?

The great majority of NCAA division 1 hockey players are between the ages of 20-25. These days a lot of drafted players going that route play another year (sometimes 2) in feeder leagues like the USHL or in Fogarty's case the BCHL. Freshman players don't often move into top line roles--they have to work their way up to those roles. Fogarty's doing okay so far. The main thing as with any prospect is for them to continually get better. Fogarty should move up the food chain on his Notre Dame team next season--assume more of a point production role. Third round guy in a somewhat iffy draft--there are hopes but no guarantees. He's at least going to play two more years at Notre Dame and probably his senior year as well.
