Come on, you are a better person that that, no need to get childish.

You were saying 'look at Chara before 25'. There have been MANY huge Dmen who took 4 to 6 years to make it to the NHL. You didn't really have to use anyone, you could say 'big guys like that take awhile'. Yet you chose Chara. A player who really has no comparison, yet if you'd compare MCI to Beuk, it's same example of a guy doing nothing before 25, yet way more realistic perspective.

Childish began with "hockey novice".

Secondly, I can use whomever I want in my example. Your failure to understand a simple comparison based solely on age is astounding. It doesn't matter who I used, because I was simply saying that just because he's X at 20 doesn't mean he can't be Y at 25. I don't know how much more specifically I could say that I wasn't comparing TALENT.

There's a relativity there. Maybe Dylan evolves from a spare D at 22 to a top 4 at 25. That's all I was saying and, like I said before, you're just trolling here because, OMG!, someone is using Chara and McIlrath in the same sentence while specifically NOT talking about talent or ceilings. Stop it.

The Rangers have Miller on trip because they want him to receive treatment from Jim Ramsey for the wrist injury. X-rays were negative. No surgery will be required. If Miller was healthy,he would be in the minors playing. Fasth doesn't need need many chances to score a goal. Someone told stop coaching Pat that about Fasth. Craig Custance was told by a scout Fasth can skate like the wind.

A few years ago a buddy of mine connected me with some pretty tuned in hockey guys who saw McIlrath on a regular basis. While they had very strong criticisms they were united in their opinion that the Rangers had made a very shrewd pick. The short take:

Extremely raw but an exceedingly rare combination of maturity, coachability, athleticism, agility, awesome strength, size and down right nastiness.

Yeah, this seems to be the consistent thing about early evaluations of McIlrath. Lots of scouts were really intrigued by his size, smarts, attitude, and athleticism, and felt he had a chance to develop into a unique type of player.

I don't know if he WILL develop into that player, no one knows for sure, but it is still pretty clear to see why he was picked relatively high

never been a big fan of mcilrath. sure i love his fighting ability but he doesnt have much hockey skill

How many players have you drafted and devolved in to NHL players ? Ok now let the paid professionals make those decisions .. Taker has a huge untapped future let him devolpe

It's great to see Fast contributing in his first game and Hrivik jumping right back into things. Kreider continuing to play well is also wonderful.

Whalepack looking good for a run in the playoffs. That will be good for all the kids down there.

Fast's first AHL goal:

Krieder went to go get the puck for him :)

I think the bigger story is Stu Bickel's rush from his own end to gain zone entry on the PP. He cut through that defender like swiss cheese.

Maybe he was being mishandled?

Haha, I knew someone was going to bring up that amazing rush of his

That's one of the biggest things that separate good AHL players from good NHL players--mobility. Bickel can skate well enough to succeed against inferior AHL competition. Against more agile, aggressive NHL pros, he just doesn't have the skating ability to even attempt plays like that.

Even on a PP, he'd be shutdown at center or wiped out at the blue line if he were up in the NHL. Nine times out of ten he'd make himself look silly.

Thanks Lev. Could not have said it better myself.

Nice pass by Kreids there. Just give these kids some time together please.

Good to see Fast has a decent frame. At least 2 inches taller than 5-10 Newbury. Add a little muscle and he can become dangerous up with the big club next year.

Shows he's not a complete plug but just a bit short of having the skating ability to stick. I still think Bick can be an everyday #6 on some bottom feeders.

YESTERDAY'S GAME

GOALS SCORED

1. The second period's opening faceoff is won by Noob, Segal grabs the puck, throws it to Kreider along the right side boards who drives down protecting the puck well with his body, but behind the net, he's almost losing control and pushes the puck up the boards. Near the faceoff circle, but still along the boards, Noob touches it to move it further up to Vernace on the blue line, who fires the puck and scores after it was deflected by a Spring player. Vernace is a completely different player with MCI than he was with Collins. He looked like an ECHLer before and now looks like an AHL All Star. He's like the Zubov of the AHL now.

2. MCI with a good defensive play along the boards behind the net, passes to Thomas who dumps it out of the zone and into the Falcon territory. Falcon defenseman gets the puck, but is forechecked by Hrivik and throws the puck away towards the blue line across the ice (from left to right) where Thomas intercepts it, drives it down, tries to make a shot that doesn't go through, grabs the puck back and makes a beautiful pass (I didn't know he had yes in that part of his head) through two people's legs to Hrivik who scores a goalscorer's goal: very hard, quick release and just under the cross bar. This was a no joke play. This is not how minor leaguers should be passing and shooting.

3. Spring defenseman coming up near his own net as Kreider began to forecheck him. Not wanting to risk getting run over by the K-train, he tried to pass, but K-train is a scary sight, so he fanned on the pass. Segal grabbed it at center above the circles, pass to Noob inside the left circle, back to Segal who scored from between the hash marks. Segal has a 5 game goal scoring streak.

4. Whale get a power play because Spring had too many men. Pyett almost gave up a breakaway on a pass along the blue line from Vernace, but recovered well using good speed and smart ways to use his reach to catch up right before the forward was about to shoot on Talbot. Another three unsuccessful rushes are stopped along the blue line. Finally the Whale set up on a Bickel rush into the zone. Noob to Kreider in front of the net who passes it to Fast, who's almost on the goal line, but fires a shot from a terrible angle that is accurate and hard.

GOALS GIVEN UP

1. Talbot was screened and the puck was deflected twice.

2. Snap shot from the right point. Bad goal by Talbot to give up. This is why he's not in the NHL. He needs to put an end to the WTF goals like this one.

3. Slap shot from the blue line. Very similar to the first goal. Again Talbot was screened and the puck was deflected after being shot from the same exact place as the first goal.

PENALTIES

1. Haley cross-checked a Falcon behind the net.

2. Fast drove to the net, got a little too excited and called for goalie interference, but I like the fact that he's not a perimeter player and willing to go into the dirty areas.

That's one thing I noticed in his SEL highlights and from watching him live in the WJC. He is a hard forechecker and crashes the net. He scores many of his goals in the slot and off rebounds. I think Torts would love him.

Wow, the Whale's offense looked absolutely stacked. Should be a good playoff run for the young guys.

Gonna b awesome now that this team is stacked on the offense... Hope the D holds up and either Talbot (too many WTF goals) or Missiaen (either is in AHL allstar or ECHL backup mode) show up.

Me too. It'd be great for the future Rangers to get some solid playoff experience, build up some serious confidence.

Winning is part of development, both physically, but even more mentally... To experience what it takes down the stretch, in the playoffs... To all those who don't care about the Whale success and say players are developed despite being a doormat... Shove it! Lol

Hopefully Kreider's explosiveness from last years NHL playoffs shows up this year in the AHL playoffs
