YESTERDAY'S GAME
GOALS SCORED
1. The second period's opening faceoff is won by Noob, Segal grabs the puck, throws it to Kreider along the right side boards who drives down protecting the puck well with his body, but behind the net, he's almost losing control and pushes the puck up the boards. Near the faceoff circle, but still along the boards, Noob touches it to move it further up to Vernace on the blue line, who fires the puck and scores after it was deflected by a Spring player. Vernace is a completely different player with MCI than he was with Collins. He looked like an ECHLer before and now looks like an AHL All Star. He's like the Zubov of the AHL now.
2. MCI with a good defensive play along the boards behind the net, passes to Thomas who dumps it out of the zone and into the Falcon territory. Falcon defenseman gets the puck, but is forechecked by Hrivik and throws the puck away towards the blue line across the ice (from left to right) where Thomas intercepts it, drives it down, tries to make a shot that doesn't go through, grabs the puck back and makes a beautiful pass (I didn't know he had yes in that part of his head) through two people's legs to Hrivik who scores a goalscorer's goal: very hard, quick release and just under the cross bar. This was a no joke play. This is not how minor leaguers should be passing and shooting.
3. Spring defenseman coming up near his own net as Kreider began to forecheck him. Not wanting to risk getting run over by the K-train, he tried to pass, but K-train is a scary sight, so he fanned on the pass. Segal grabbed it at center above the circles, pass to Noob inside the left circle, back to Segal who scored from between the hash marks. Segal has a 5 game goal scoring streak.
4. Whale get a power play because Spring had too many men. Pyett almost gave up a breakaway on a pass along the blue line from Vernace, but recovered well using good speed and smart ways to use his reach to catch up right before the forward was about to shoot on Talbot. Another three unsuccessful rushes are stopped along the blue line. Finally the Whale set up on a Bickel rush into the zone. Noob to Kreider in front of the net who passes it to Fast, who's almost on the goal line, but fires a shot from a terrible angle that is accurate and hard.
GOALS GIVEN UP
1. Talbot was screened and the puck was deflected twice.
2. Snap shot from the right point. Bad goal by Talbot to give up. This is why he's not in the NHL. He needs to put an end to the WTF goals like this one.
3. Slap shot from the blue line. Very similar to the first goal. Again Talbot was screened and the puck was deflected after being shot from the same exact place as the first goal.
PENALTIES
1. Haley cross-checked a Falcon behind the net.
2. Fast drove to the net, got a little too excited and called for goalie interference, but I like the fact that he's not a perimeter player and willing to go into the dirty areas.
