I want the team to bounce back with a statement game.

Strong goaltending from Hank
The d-play we got from the Tampa game.
Finish, finish, finish! Rangers could have easily put away the game in the 1st against Chicago.

oof..Henriks numbers are really bad.

Yeah, not flattering at all. If some one could post his numbers from last season for the same period that would be great. I am too lazy to do it myself.

Although, like @Glen Sathers Cigar mentioned a couple of times, his positioning and and all around technical play is much better this season compared to how he looked for all of last season not including the Habs series.

Hank's numbers never got much better last year, we just had Raanta to shoulder the load.

I don't know what to think about Hank's play. He seems to be better than last year when he went thru a brutal stretch when he couldn't stop a beachball but he will just never be the goalie he was in his prime. He is just too inconsistent. He makes some great saves but gives up way too many soft goals at crucial times. That goal he gave up late in the second against Chicago was a killer. His numbers are not good but it is not all his fault because the defensive zone and slot coverage by our D is just brutal some games. I just don't know what to expect from Hank on any given night and unfortunately we don't have a good backup either.

If CBJ isn't stupid, which they probably aren't, they're going to be attacking the hell out of the low slot. Chicago did it in the third and the Rangers had less than no answer. Hope AV made a point of this but lol who are we kidding, he'd rather everyone fly the zone than defend their net.

Hanks play is hard to gauge, part of the reason his numbers are terrible is due to what I mentioned above. For example, AA had 3 goals last game on chances that no competent d should ever let happen, let alone happen 3 times in a few minutes. Yes, he let in a softie, but everyone lets in softies sometimes. The question is how many of his overall goals against can reasonably be attributed to pathetic coverage in front of his net and how many are his own technical or mental mistakes. Obviously he's not what he was 3 years ago, but I'm not sure he's as bad as his numbers either.

Yeah, prime Hank is gone, there is no question about that. But he can be and is still a very good goalie in the NHL and his play has been improving so while his numbers are less than ideal what I see from him on the ice gives me confidence that he will keep improving going forward.

I mean, Look at Price or Rask. Their numbers are worse/similar to Hanks but the goals they allow are mostly on them being a bad goaltender at the moment while the majority of goals against Hank are the result of defensive breakdowns and a failure from the Rangers D to clear the crease.

I don't know why this made me laugh really hard. I guess because I'd imagine it like a test and instead of leaving the answer blank the Rangers just let out a screech and dove head first out the 2nd story window.

Check out Lundqvist’s numbers since the beginning of December 2015 thru today if you want to talk about scary. It’s just about 2 full years of horrific goaltending now this isn’t a slump. This is called being a small 35 year old goalie that’s played a lot of hockey and likes to stand on the goal line. Eeesh

Pretty sure that the advanced stat folks have some metric of shot quality and expected goals scored that shows NYR give up an unusually high frequency of high=percentage shots, and so Lundqvist has actually still been outperforming the league average even during these last two years.

I do think that the best real critique one can make of Hank is the "Clemmensson effect," which is that most backups that we have had have also put up quite good/similar numbers in his absence, similar to Brodeur for years in New Jersey. But that doesn't take into consideration quality of opposition for selected games.

It's hard to tell how much is on him and how much is on the defense. The defensive zone coverage since that time frame has been bad and the high quality scoring opportunities against has probably been one of the worst in the league during the time.

Remember when Torts remarked (accurately) that Hagelin sucks on the powerplay and everyone freaked out? Well, Vesey and Hayes suck on the powerplay. It's time to try someone else. Hell, give Grabner a shot.
