Zuccarello turns 32 in September. When he was the same age as Panarin, he signed a 4 year deal. Actually what was said about Panarin applied to Zuccarello as well, back in 2015. Zuccarello at 27 didn't have nearly as much wear and tear as a 27-year old who already played 8 or 9 full years in the NHL

If Panarin is willing to a sign a 4 year deal, he can be a Ranger.

Was Mats Zuccarello ever as good as Panarin? Would a 20% drop in Panarins average production still be better than the best season in Zuccarello's career?

Zucc's highest cap hit was 4.5 mil. Panarin will get more than double that.

I am referring specifically to the comparison between the two as players, not salary. There is no comparison. Panarin's worst season is significantly better than Zuccarello's best season. And even the so-called Zuccarello decline year (this year) at age 32 saw him post 37 points in 46 games as a Ranger for a 1.90 pts/60 (51 points in 61 games in total).

Mouths podcast is unlistenable to me...it's ...not good.

It's kinda supposed to be comedy mixed with hockey more than just hockey. And it's a pretty specific brand of comedy. It's not for everyone, but I enjoy it and don't think he deserves any particular ill will.

On the other hand, I've listened to Bantering the Blueshirts and it almost made my ears bleed from boredom. So that's not for everyone either.

I think Under Review is a good option though.

Edge sounds like Steve Valiquette, it's awesome LOL.

Cannot wait to get Panarin... Would like to get a top 15 pick and a prospect for Kreider and then sign Panarin. Only catch is that Panarin is going to be $11.5M at least especially with that Skinner contract at $9M

Does Edge speak like a deranged Muppet or do I have to listen to the podcast to find out?

You could be waiting a long time.

Someone clearly hasn’t read the whole thread.

I am afraid of the answer. Up until this point Bobcat Goldthwait has been narrating Edge's posts and I am not sure I am ready for a change.

You can go on being blissfully delusional or you can jump in the pool. But, the answer is on either page one or two of this thread.

This was my mental image of @Edge

about 17 minutes in...lost count of how many times @Edge has said '2020 draft' referring to the 2019 draft. but i'd still be 100% on board following his draft game plan in next years draft too

Oh my God you literally said he did not sound like Bobcat Goldthwait. You used that actual name. Wtf.

I dislike the idea of moving Kreider just to sign Panarin. The same arguments which apply to them moving on from Kreider should apply to them not signing Panarin.

Being ~ ten years older than anyone they are going to draft in 2019 is a gap where it's almost inevitable the older will be exiting their prime while the younger are just entering theirs.

For one I don't think it's a straight "must move Kreider to get Panarin", I don't think Edge was trying to say that. I think if they move Kreider it's a combination of wanting more picks or assets and not wanting to commit to a longer contract for him...but it also opens up cap space and roster spot of sorts for Panarin IF they believe that this 2019 draft has resulted in them sitting in a spot where they're about to be competitive in 2 years or so AND Panarin is a better investment than Kreider long term.

That said I haven't gotten the impression that the Rangers are going to be all in on Panarin, just interested and there's mutual interest and a deal can be made that's not wildly over priced then they may do it.

I don't really know where I come down on Panarin ultimately, but I do think that you really need a diverse mix of players and ages when trying to build a team and just trying to match everyone to a specific time is going to result in folly. The Rangers need the older players to help provide structure to the team for the young players trying to make their mark.
