We were never going to stay that hot. More than anything, I think the team is exhausted after playing the top teams night after night.

We aren’t there yet. Still a work in progress and I still think we’ll likely miss the playoffs. That’s okay though, as long as we continue to see positive development. Would love to see us at least keep it close. But the Guhle injury is a tough one…

The fault squarely lies on @SwiftyHab's shoulders

There’s a very thin line between winning and losing in this league. I believe that we lack quality depth and it shows every time we have one or two injuries. Players play outside of their optimal chair and the fatigue has a trickle down effect in the roster and multiplies mistakes. We were bad at the begining of the year when Laine was missing. We got much better when we were fully healthy through December. Our most recent slump coincides with losing Heinemen and now Ghule.

How is "No Heineman" not the #1 choice?
If the main reason for this collapse is Heineman, we’ve got bigger problems. They’re pretty much back to Jekyll and Hyde hockey. Nothing new here .I like what Suzuki said when he stated that the players are complaining too much about penalties on the bench but also said they deserve it !! This season can’t end soon enough the drama is nauseating.

There is no other team in the league that has had to deal with 22GP in 40 day stretch … not one. Dec 9 - Jan 18

Combine that w Hutson having hit the wall and teams game planning Laine on the PP and Hutson….

Well, one thing I said even when things were going well is that they lack depth. They happened to be fully healthy at the time, but they were always one injury away from significant issues in alot of the areas on the roster. Guhle happens to be one of the many potential losses they could not afford.

I think goaltending has fell down a notch during the latest run, and the play without the puck is also not as consistent. I think fatigue also has something to do with that and that comes back to the lack of depth again. When the habs were on their run against top teams, their margin for error was very small, and they required lots of energy and concentration to hang with them, let alone win those games.

Teams with more sturdy rosters and experience know how to manage 82 games. This team does not have the overall talent and experience to do that.

It's hard to not consider his contribution. He's been hard to play against and brings a lot of space/time for his linemates and has a pretty good opportunistic shot which resulted in a few quite important goals.

I think it might also have been a big reason Evans has been so hot during his goal streak.

I'm very happy he finally put it together and was able to show how effective he could be. Now that's one piece that could definitely be part of the core for many years. Just really sad he got injured in such a stupid incident.

Even with Carrier our D has always been suspect. Contenders stock NHL-quality defensemen depth prior to the playoffs for a reason, meanwhile we have a rookie D playing 20+ minutes and a shaky bottom-2 overall.

Our offense came from having our 4 lines pumping... but we had no injuries. And beyond our NHL players, no real AHL depth to replace them as needed (yet). So of course when players get hurt the old holes start reappearing.

People shouldn't see this as a stepback - we have now seen what this team can do at its best for an extended amount of games. It's still going to take some time for that team to get a little bit better, a little bit more experienced and a little deeper, but at least now they have a model they set themselves to aspire to.

Losing a third line rookie should not have that much impact.
For a contender? No. But we’re not a contender. We’re a bubble team on the outside looking in. We’re a team in transition and losing a guy like him really hurts. He was pacing for 20 goals.
Depth should be able to compensate whenever a single bottom six forward is injured.
We don’t have that depth up front or in the back. Next year we add Demodov and Reinbacher and those kinds of losses are more tolerable. But we’re not there yet.

From December 15 to Jan 15 our goalies had a combined Sv percentage of over .915 and a 10-2 record.

Before Dec 15th, our goalies had a combined sv% of .882

Since Jan 15, our goalies have a combined .898 sv%.

Goaltending is not the sole reason we went on the run and now that we are falling back, but I'm surprised I am the only person who voted for it as one of the top reasons with well over 100 votes.
The defense was atrocious to start the year. No goalie could’ve saved us then .
