Proposal: 1st OA for 2nd OA

While I think the cost of one spot from #2 to #1 would actually be significant (like the add being another late 1st or recent 1st round type prospect)…it certainly wouldn’t be William Eklund level significant.

I have Schaefer #1 with a bullet and the Sharks may be incentivized to try to move up to guarantee him - but essentially Schaefer and Misa (and for me, Hagens) are all similar caliber of prospect…at least close enough that demanding a high-level 22 year-old winger coming off a 60 point season is absurd.

The Sharks will be perfectly happy getting Misa at #2 if that’s the cost.

Sharks should just draft Misa.

They have Dickinson already on LD.

Need another C, not sure Smith is 100% a C.
Dickinson projects similar to Noah Hanifin, not a bonafide 1D. Sharks should just hope NYI prefers one of the centers. If they do take Schaefer then draft BPA.

As for centers, they also have Bystedt and likely another high pick next year.

Misa + Eklund for a Schaefer. You are off your rocker. The gap between those two is no were close to Eklund. And if you don't want a D, draft Misa and let SJ take Schaefer. You'd expect anyone to pay for what? The privilege of selecting first? Maybe you get something like that for 4OA + roster player. Not the 2OA.

What about this as the centerpiece?

Isles: 1st + Dobson
Sharks: 2nd + Eklund +

Sharks can add with guys like Cagnoni or Bystedt or Haltunen and/or picks to sweeten the pot. Sharks get their top pairing of the future and accelerate their rebuild.

This also helps Island go into rebuild with more prospect and let Sharks take the risk on Dobson's next contract.

So we give up Dobson, who is a very valuable piece himself, and drop down to 2OA, and only get Eklund in return?

That's absolutely horrific for the NYI.
Are you familiar with Eklund? The gap between Schaefer and Misa is not Eklund while Dobson needs a large new contract after a down year. Eklund was a #7 pick and is 22 with 60 points on a team with 18 yo as the best center. His ceiling is a 80pt wing top 6 winger based on his age and production.

Contracts not withstanding, a 50+ point defenseman is much more valuable than an undersized winger considering both players are in their 20s. Just the way it is.
