Pay the kid. It's that simple. He is a superstar that this fanbase cannot afford to lose. It would be a complete and utter meltdown for the FB Caniacs ten times the amount that Ward leaving and the Staal trade ended up being.

This is what it looks like when a team uses all its leverage in negotiating a deal with an RFA. The comment about "willing to talk trade" is aimed directly at Aho. So is all the talk about an offre hostile that Waddell has let go on for a month. The team is making it clear that Aho holds no cards. You don't want to sign? Fine, we'll trade you to Ottawa.

The team knows Aho doesn't want to go anywhere, just like we know we don't want him to leave. But if all you do is make it obvious the guy is your franchise and you'll pay him whatever he wants, you end up with Matthews's contract.

I'm not freaking out, but it would NOT surprise me in the least if this management screws up the Aho negotiation. Sorry, but I have no trust in Dundon or Waddell.

If Habs were to front load, I don't see Dundon accepting. He is not going to pay upfront that much money. And I could see them saying well Aho, you reached out for other offers, therefore, we will trade you now cause you obviously don't want to be a cane for life and you refused our offer.

But I will guarantee one thing if Aho is not on this team next season: I will be getting a refund on my season tickets and this org can go to h e double hockey sticks.

You say you are not freaking out, but the remainder of that comment begs to differ. There's literally nothing this current group has done to make you think they aren't all in on keeping this man here.

It looks like Anaheim has signed your recent AHL Playoff MVP - Andrew Poturalski. Can anyone shed some light on his chances of being any sort NHL contributor at this point? Should be a huge add for San Diego in the very least...

Hoping for the best for you Canes fans in regards to Aho.
dude never got a real shot with the Canes, but his skating is also a bit suspect for an NHL player at his size and he has no real plus level attributes to cancel that out. Hoping he pans out for you guys but even if he doesn't he's a great AHL player so useful to have in the org

Btw Amazon. Fix your damn autocorrect on your tablets, thx

I disagree heavily with this. After watching this team for the last 12 years (I moved to NC after the Cup and jumped aboard the sinking ship) I have seen them have middling player after middling player be put in a position to fail. Look at Zach Boychuk and Drayson Bowman. Remember Brandon Sutter? Hell, look at Jeff Skinner. This is the next opportunity for the fanbase to TRULY care about a superstar that has the potential to be more important than Eric Staal was.

I don't care if they give Aho 12 million a year. He needs to be THE franchise here. It's not even a question. After seeing how he performed last year to start the season, and then have such a solid playoff performance, it's clear he is ready to take the next step into being the cornerstone. The fanbase here is as casual as it gets, we all know this. The city needs to have consistent buzz around this team. Last year was the first season in a D E C A D E that there was LEGIT excitement. Do not let that fall apart again by losing the literal ticket seller that this kid is.

I rarely have rants here but I'm sorry. I do believe this is probably Canadian media bullshit smoke and mirrors but in the case it is not, I think every Hurricanes fan should be scared shitless that somebody screws up a negotiation tactic and Aho leaves.

And surely when everything turns out fine you'll return to say how wrong you were to doubt them, in spite of all the good they've done so far.

In the same tweet Waddell said that he would match any offer sheet. Doesn't that give 100% of the power to Aho at this point? He can sign whatever deal looks best to him and Waddell already stated he will match. The Canes can't trade Aho within 1 year of matching.

Let's say Aho signs an offer sheet at Noon. Do the Canes have any grace period to even try to deal him or are they stuck with the contract or compensation at that point? Seems like Aho holds all the cards, despite Waddell's warnings?

I don't trust Waddell or Dundon at all. So yes, this could all be a negotiating tactic, but again I won't be shocked if they screw this up and Aho is not on this team. I could see them not match a front loaded offer, take the 4 first round picks and try to spin it to the fanbase that this is a good thing for the team. These two make me nervous.

EDIT: and if they get him signed, then I will congratulate them and give them props.

It's like The Ring. Phone rings. You answer, they whisper: "Seven Days". It's the NHL Central Registry that's calling. That's the time you got, the negotiations are done with.

Everyone is freaking out over that tweet- sheesh. Yeah they will listen to a trade, but unless its Drouin, Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, and an unprotected first they are not even considering it.
