The funny thing, to me, is how many people are questioning whether Dundon has the money. All kinds of cheap offer sheets being proposed, mostly by habs fans. They think if they frontload it with bonuses he won’t be able to afford to match.
They do realize that the CBA doesn't really allow for that kind of frontloading anymore, right? The cap circumvention loophole was closed after the mess of the Weber offer sheet. I mean they could certainly try and frontload it, but that would probably only actually be to our own benefit, as it would give us more room to play in the latter years of the deal.

This CBA does allow for front-loading. Little has changed in that regard. See: Auston Matthews new contract:

$30 million in signing bonuses year 1 and 2. Never has a base salary above $750k. That is exactly what Philly did with the Weber offer sheet. They were just able to exacerbate it with a longer term and $$.

Awful rumor: Sebastian Aho is trying to capture another NHL - negotiations in a dead end

Sports Net's insider journalist Elliotte Friedman shook the hockey world on Monday by throwing hae quite a rumor related to the Finnish striker Sebastian Ahoon .
According to Friedman, Montreal Canadiens' GM Marc Bergevin may be about to make an unconditional Aholle offer sheet offer that will allow Canadiens to get rid of their ranks.
If the term "offer sheet" is not familiar, then it means that other clubs can offer a contract to a limited free agent whose player rights are still with the previous club. However, if the club is not able to match at least the same offer with other clubs, the player will need to change the landscape.
Over the last few days, Canadiens has racked up plenty of room for their pay ceilings through barter, so there are clearly big plans for the NHL Free Agent Frenz on Monday.
- Bergevin has a brilliant relationship with player agent Gerry Johansson , representing Brendan Gallagher , Carey Pricea and Sebastian Aho. Who knows? Friedman wrote in his fresh column.
TSN editor Pierre LeBrun also threw his own spoon into the sack by revealing that Aho and Carolina Hurricanes are currently in a deadlocked contract negotiation.
"The belief is that Hurricanes offered to Aho an eight-year contract that would bring $ 7.5 million in annual revenue." The Aho camp responded to the offer by requiring a five-year contract that would generate $ 9.5 million in annual revenue. The one-year contract is also an opportunity for Hurricanes. Can Aho get an offer sheet today ? It is definitely being considered. I don't know if it's really happening yet, LeBrun wrote on Twitter.

Fresh from oven. Finnish media parroting every word Friedman says.

Ahh I see, I was wrong.

That said, if someone offered that kind of deal to Aho, Dundon would jump on it in a second. Pay a bunch up front to secure the face of the franchise, and then have to pay him pennies the rest of the deal? That sounds like an owner's wet dream for someone as young and talented as Seabass.

Now this certified Pejorative Slur Eklund is gonna add more fuel to the fire with this.
The only thing close to an offer sheet I am hearing has to do with Aho in Carolina. I have been told the Canadiens are talking to Carolina about a possible trade for Aho....and they are hanging an offer sheet over them...I have heard Drouin could be headed back to Carolina in an Aho trade...

The only offer sheet I'd be worried about from the Canes point of view would be one that gives Aho $10M and a term of 4 years...walking him to UFA with no UFAs bought out. That would hurt to match, but you'd have to given the compensation would only be two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd.

That would suck.

If they let it get to that point then they have no one to blame but themselves.

That's the hyper-example though. Furthermore, max 1st year needs to be followed by a 10.6M+ 2nd year, and the player obviously has little interest to take the risk for himself that there is a lockout in 2020-21. So the frontloading fool would need to give him a 10M signing bonus for that season.

Absolutely, but even I don't think Aho wants it to get there. That kind of move would be dicking over the team's ability to compete now, and given some of the deals that others have already taken (Slavin, Pesce, Turbo), I can't imagine he wants to come into the locker room next season knowing he kind of screwed over everyone else. There is something to be said for the culture we've created where the players are willing to sacrifice a bit up front to make the team better.

Peters* did tell a story to a Canes luncheon 2 years ago about how much Aho said he loved Montreal and the energy in Bell Centre.
