No offense taken, I know it's different.

The Islanders are just not our biggest rival to me. For older fans, I totally get it, but the Islanders haven't been relevant in my lifetime.

I grew up facing the Devils, Pens, and Caps.

I don't know, man. I'm 28, so I assume we're of the same generation. That being said, I grew up on Long Island and going to Ranger-Islander games at the barn for all those years was crazy. There fans are by far the worst.

Devils and Pens are up there, but nothing touches the Isles and there fans.

As for the Caps, I (secretly) like them. I love Ovi and was in D.C. a few times each year, so it was kinda like a second home to me.

I probably would have thought this at some point.

Then I started posting on the main boards and met some of my "favorite people."

None of them are Islanders fans.

All rivalries became "neutered" after the fighting left. I don't even hate Philly anymore, pretty much the Pens, Caps (Tom Wilson), and the Leafs (their fans).
I suspect you’re also a little older, if you remember the fighting era. I do. And I agree with you about caring less about the rivalries. But I would chalk that up to, not the lack offighting, but simply, growing up. When life gets more complex, sports and “hating” teams full of entertainer/athletes just becomes less of a thing. And we start to see these guys as working humans and less as cartoon characters.

I think the nature of entertainment has changed a lot.

Be it sports, or movies, or music, people don’t really seem to go “all-in” like they used to.

I think there are many complex reasons for that, but I don’t think the NHL has necessarily done itself any favors.

I think players are more skilled than ever and the average NHL player would skate circles around the their 1980s counterpart. But there’s a certain something missing — a certain passion, or emotion.

I thought Zucc was benched, because he has not played well recently or was it an injury? So hard to tell sometimes, because when Crosby was out last evening for 1 whole week, but the Franchise seldom mention the main injury reason to protect the player.

Zucc was out for a minor injury.

Also, Messier chokes Blake.

Ryan Smyth will also score off a pass from Brad Isbister, after Mike York takes a penalty. I suspect Luongo will put on a pretty solid performance — he definitely has potential, along with that Chara fellow. But I will say this: they better watch out for Gaborik.

To someone's point, I dont think the islanders have been our rival as much as the Caps, Devils and Flyers have over the last 10 or more years.

Anders Lee is a "damn treat"? Anders Lee?

McDavid, Ovechkin, Crosby, Karlsson…...and Lee?

If you said Barzal I could almost understand. But what about watching this guy stand in front of the net makes him such a "damn treat"??

Look up Tim Kerr on YouTube......you would just go wild about him.

Might be the worst attempt at a clap-back i've ever seen.

You're still the guy who can't wait to watch Anders Lee play tonight.

Venture into the Garden 6, 7 years ago, and every other jersey would be a Callahan jersey.

We all have favorite players who are not incredible.

I don't know, what's so great about watching Alex Ovechkin take one-timers from the same exact spot every time? What's so great about Sidney Crosby cycle for two hours?

You could say that about any player.

I'm sure you can see the difference.....yes, I'm sure of that.

Perhaps you can describe what makes watching Anders Lee such a damn treat?

I'm buying what MH is selling.

Lee is one of my favourite current NHLers too, and I haven't got a whole lot of harboured hatred for the Isles. I've literally only met one Islanders fan that I can recall, so it isn't like I have to deal with much razzing from that end.

I know I keep saying it, but how the hell does Spooner keep going from the first line to the bench and back again. It's just f***ing asinine. I can't wait until this guy is gone.

Might be the worst attempt at a clap-back i've ever seen.

I don't know, I laughed.

that Gaborik guy is gonna be pretty good. really hard to pass on him. it's not like they'll really go out of their way to draft a goaltender with the 1st overall pick or anything, right?
