Well, by that logic, Vesey is better than Kravtsov as well.

Only because you don't like my conclusion. I've said elsewhere that I think Kravtsov is the most talented prospect the Rangers have. But, Chytil, in terms of sheer talent, is not that far behind him, and Chytil is already fulfilling some of his potential in the NHL. Vesey has nothing to do with this conversation.

The thing everyone has to accept with these polls is that they are completely subjective.

It's not always possible to come up with a math equation that calculates accomplishments, potential, ceiling, floor, and probabilities.

So we take a stab at it and go with what feels right.

But these lists are about seeing how the board views things as a whole, as a snapshot in time, not necessarily as the bible for how these players shall be viewed for all time.

Not sure I’d put Pionk ahead of Lundkvist but I like the looks of this. I had Kravtsov here and Shesty next but close.

I go back and forth on Pionk.

The defense is a work in progress, and I can probably argue he’s a third pairing guy on a good team, but it’s really hard to argue with 50 point production as a rookie.

And so while every logical part of my brain tells me there are guys who “should” be better, I don’t know how I can ignore what Pionk has done in the NHL.

Man if some people feel Kravtsov has more pure talent than Chytil I couldn't be more happier. Not arguing that isn't the case but just imagine if Kravtsov comes in next year and does what Chytil has been doing this year?! Pretty exciting.

Yeah I hear ya on that first part. My post was more about putting Lundkvist ahead of Pionk right now.

I agree with Pionk, he stands out very positively me at times but he obviously has his flaws. Again his point production isn’t something to ignore and I say let him keep playing- a lot. Let him keep providing points as long as he does, learn on the job, and keep bringing along talent around him. See where the chips fall whenever it may be.

If he provides an offensive threat for 2-3 years and gradually gets pushed down the lineup as talent comes up, great. If he gets better and turns into a top 2 d-man, even better. Really nothing to lose by spoonfeedig him minutes at this point.

Pionk is as close to an established top 4 d-man as an undrafted college player can get. He’s playing 1st pairing minutes and goes up against top lines. You can bring up metrics, but with better usage and a more complementary partner, he’s a top 4 d-man.

Lundkvist’s potential (maybe even ceiling) is a top 4 d-man. He was a “safe” pick, relatively speaking, and doesn’t have tremendous upside. I would understand putting K’Andre ahead of Pionk, as there’s #1 d-man upside there, but we’ll be lucky if Lundkvist even reaches the middle pairing. Pionk is basically already there.

But this is just my belief, and I can see it both ways. I really like Lundkvist, and hope he’s a Ranger for a long time.

@Joey Bones these are the guys eligible to be added per the rules we have always used. You don't have to abide by those rules, in theory, but it's what we've always done. I know some of these guys like Pionk and Chytil will roll off before the season is over, by the eligibility always goes by their status at the beginning of the year.
