I said today that I’d be fine with an L if they continued their progress of playing well defensively.

Considering the opponent, that might be their best defensive period all season.

That actually felt like one of the best periods we've played this season. The Leafs are on their game and we kept up with them step for step.

The Toronto media uses "The Core Four" when talking about Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander and it sounds so lame to a New Yorker familiar with that phrase being used for the Yankees group that actually won championships.

People always over use phrases that rhyme….

Not a terrible period, garbage goal, but we need to turn it up and get some scoring chances. They are covering Strome and Kakko pretty well, Panarin can't set them up.

The Toronto announcers said Matthews had 16 shot attempts the previous game. This game is a slight improvement you could say.

I'm Chytils biggest critic... finishing is most definitely not an issue for him.

Gauthier backhanded that puck, it wasn't Chytil's shot.

Chytil tends to overskate/overcommit, which gets himself caught going the other way. When he misses with his passes, it's also turnovers the other way. It's a high risk game

The Leafs got absolutely no quality that period. That was a very good defensive effort tainted only by that lousy shot that just f***ed its way into the net.

Hell of an arm wrestle so far. We weren't bad, but we were the 2nd best team for a lot of that period. Good defensive effort over all, we didn't really give them anything dangerous.
The Leafs are doing a very good job of not letting us come through the neutral zone.

Chytil looked really good that period, very strong on his skates too.
I love the fact that Fox knows what you are going to do with the puck before you do...

Seeing eye puck is the difference. Dirty goals will be the difference. Strome and Panarin need to simplify their games.

Hopefully Gallant conveys that message properly... simple hockey.
