Mainly talking about blowing the load on Stamkos+Saros+Skjei when they should've just kept Ekholm, Fabbro and Askarov while getting a boatload for Saros.
Askarov asked for a trade and Ekholm is 34 and netted us Molendyk.

Saros could possibly be had if it were up to Nashville fans. Don't know how cap would work.

How far would Savoie and a first get Edmonton?
We should be aiming higher than a goalie if that's what we are putting out there.

Bowman apparently told Friedman on Friday that he has no interest in looking at goaltending, so even with Skinner struggling, that's probably the horse that our cart is tied to until at least the offseason.

Askarov only asked for a trade because he was blocked by Saros though, right? If the Preds had traded Saros, Askarov is likely still your goalie. Not that I'm advocating for anything here, hindsight is 20-20.

Barring injures he's the best goalie on the market that oilers can afford.

He also reminds me of Price in sense of season is lost, he's not gonna care that much. But I imagine a trade to EDM would light a fire on his ass and he'd look way better.

Oilers gotta do it. Gibson is the answer
Tell our GM that please, lol.

Akey, Savoie and O'Reilly are not available in trade.

The Oilers management would likely view Skinner as still our future starter. I'm hoping they still want to get someone else for our playoff run as insurance. So, we are in the market for good, but not great goalie. Can we get a Talbot, Lyon, Quick or similar cheaper goalie? Once upon a time we traded a 1st for Roloson. Thats the type of trade to hope for. Don't pay up for a sure thing. Pay a bit less for a smart gamble
I'm not so sure about the bolded. This team's management clearly knows they are in "win now" mode. If they can improve our odds at a cup by trading The bolded above - especially Akey, in my opinion, they likely do it. O'Reilly may not be realistically available only because we valued him so highly to trade up a year to get him. I think they would trade him, but value him very highly.

Yes, but Askarov wasn't going to beat out Saros for the starting role this year, he COULD have beaten out Wedgewood out of the back up position this year but he wasn't patient enough and wanted to be a starter as soon as this year.

This team massively downgraded size and speed in the offseason. Bouchard playing like a ghost compared to last season. Sure, upgrade the goalie if you can, but there are much deeper issues on this team to address.

Memories of acquiring Vezina level Ben Scrivens from the Kings, only to look like an AHL goalie in front of Edm's defence.

What would it take to land Gibson out of curiosity? Value tough to gauge - would EDM 2026 1st be good enough base?

Not sure it'll matter much, unless they wrap their new addition in goal with a couple of new additions for their top six D -- one of whom had better play pretty high up the depth chart. It's rough back there and their shortcomings at the position expose Edmonton's goalies far too often.

I'd rate their needs as follows: 1) as good a defenseman as they can afford, ideally a #1-3; a 2) a new goalie; and 3) a #4-6 defenseman.

This club isn't one player away.

The advanced stats have pointed to the goalies being the biggest problem on the team all season, even when the D was good.

Oh, they probably need a new goalie; that’s not really in question. I just wouldn’t go get one and hang a “Mission Accomplished!” sign up if they do. They need a goalie and they need to shore up a defense that looks plum bad on too many nights. They need both.

Whether you can afford all that under the cap, and in terms of assets heading out the door, is another matter.

This may not be their year. This crop doesn’t look like the team that made the Finals in June.

I have no idea. Gibson's numbers for the past 3 years until this year were unspectacular, but Verbeek has been reluctant to move him, and doesn't really have to. I don't think a 1st is good value, but it might be a desperation move that would need to be played in order to happen. That said, Bowman says we don't need a goalie, so I don't think he's really looking that way regardless. If our 1st in 2026 is on the move, I expect it will be for a defenseman instead.

As I stated before--you guys want a legit 1 goalie for scrubs and guys you want to just bump

Judging by Stan’s comment, they seem to be going by that they almost won a cup with Skinner so no need to make a change but also not realizing that might have been the closes he’ll ever get.

Could they win a cup with him? Maybe but it’s almost doing it the hard way. The meltdown he had in Vegas in 2023 just seems more like a likely occurrence to happen again and again then him playing out his mind that one time against Dallas. They don’t even exactly have to full on replace him but I just don’t see how you can feel comfortable if he gets hurts or gets inside his head again which he’s prone to and Calvin Pickard is your option.
