MBN and Yzerman not seeing eye to eye?

Lovely.
1) The player did well in that league last year.
2) It's not like Grand Rapids has oodles of room for the kid.
3) He's already shown enough to inspire confidence that he should make the NHL in the next year or two, regardless of whether he starts this season in the SHL or AHL.

This whole thing is a lot closer to a nothing burger than the semi-crisis that some fans are portraying it to be.

Dang, it might be minor guys, I see that.

Just would be better if they agreed is all. Look at the Swayman situation. Got ugly for a while over something that should of been minor. Eventually they worked it out.

Let's just hope it never gets to that level.

According to Swedish media Yzerman and the Wings wanted MBN in the AHL but the player and his camp were adamant SHL is better for him right now.

This is true, MBN more or less insisted on SHL play, media said. I just hope things didn't turn a little sour between him and Detroit's management. Btw...his dad didn't like his son's decision either.

So, who is in MBN's ear telling him to do the opposite of what his father and GM think he should do?

I will continue to hope this is minor, but it wouldn't shock me if the Wings hold him back more now because of this.

Oh boy...I have a feeling Yzerman isn't happy, the meeting was described as tense.

Robin Lindgren is a SHL journalist:
"Yesterday, Sunday, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård was told by Steve Yzerman that they wanted to keep him in the AHL, but MBN and his agent are said to have insisted on playing in the SHL".

Another media headline: "Turned his back on Yzerman".
I mean...what the heck is the kid doing?

Don't love this. It's a red flag a bit whether we like it or not.

Getting on Yzerman's bad side hasn't proven well for a single player in the org since he became GM.

With that said, I believe, since he is signed, the Wings had the ability to tell him where to go, if it was that important to them, then they should have told him it will be the AHL.

Ya.... It's not an opinion. The AHL is a developmental league. The shl is a definitively better league.

Says who? Your opinion that's all it is. Just because you prefer the SHL game doesn't make it a better league.

There are legit fans who say they prefer CHL juniors to the NHL, doesn't make that the better league.

Not a red flag at all. Just because Yzerman prefers him in NA, doesn't mean he is fuming mad about it. If MBN said he was fine either way and they still went with the kids choice, tells me they are more than fine with it.

Listening to the Norwegian podcast he did. He sounded very relaxed and happy. Doesn't sound like there's any bad sentiment, at least from his point of view, at all. Maybe Yzerman is an bitter idiot and hold grudges on no grounds, but I can't imagine that.
Aside from the top prospects and a few exceptions, that play in the SHL, the regular players over there, most couldn't make the NHL and lots of them wouldn't be make it in the AHL either.
Delusional comment.

Basic North-American arrogance. Not knowing about league levels globally. Those have changed drastically since 2022.

It isn't even near what it once was.

What comes to Yzerman, he probably could not be any happier, that he has build a system, where MBN is developing under the eyes of Lidström & Håkan, and Kronwall is the main player developer there in Sweden.

I could not more than laugh for guys who have some suspicious thoughts against this solution. :D

It was a really funny interview tbh. He did make it sound like Detroit basically did that girlfriend thing of "sure, do what you want, I don't care" which typically means you definitely shouldn't do what you want. But it should also be noted that NHL teams have selfish reasons sometimes for wanting a prospect in AHL. They want that team to be as good as possible and want to make it easy to call guys up for a game or two, it's not necessarily what's best for the player's development. Good on MBN for standing his ground and doing what's best for him.

It's still too early to him to be at NA. He was at Swedish 2nd level at last season. Before that he was at juniors. Now he will be at Top Men's level. Then to AHL, to conquer the NA sized rink.

The path is pretty clear.

Well he better hope he gets lots of PP time and minutes this year with that decision, especially if he's going against what Yzerman wanted
