Short interview in the local paper today.

How do you see the NHL camp?

- They thought I was good in training and showed good character in the games, so that's positive.

How did you feel about being dropped so late?

- I didn't go over with the expectation of taking a place in the NHL, it was mostly to get the experience and see what it's like with the rink, the system and the pace. When you go, you always have a chance and always hope, so it was a bit of a shame but it wasn't that I thought of it as negative. It's incredibly fun to play with Skellefteå, it's not a bad team to play with. I'm incredibly happy to have the position I have here and feel good here, he says and talks about the decision to play in Sweden:

- We had a discussion about what we wanted to do and came to the conclusion that it was good to play here. It's a team that's fighting to win the championship and it's good to get experience with a team that has won a championship.

This guy has new school power forward written all over him. It was the right decision to play in the SHL. Build the chemistry and skill set. The only concern is him coasting in thie League. Kronner and others will be all him if he starts down this track.

Was hoping he had the kind of year in the +1 in the SHL to make me come around on him like ASP did.

Idk man.

I wish we had Hage.

To me, my worry with him is his skating. He looked slow or like skating in mud at times during preseason to me, for lack of a better word. Not like slowest ever slow, but slow like he won't have enough speed for his game to work in the NHL. Not sure if that is just his style or what, but it didn't look good to me. They also kept mentioning his shot, and while it looks really heavy/hard, it looks like Frk levels of accuracy.

I think his skating is totally fine, not worried there.

I am hoping to see over the next year or two him create more chances for his linemates and pick up more assists.

I know he can skate and shoot and forecheck.

His skating won't hold him back. There is room for improvement for sure, but it isn't a liability.

He had a pulled groin.

Sheesh, stop waiting for a magic moment to get excited about this guy. He has zero issues in his game that need to be solved in order to be a good NHL player. His skating is fine, strength, shot, work rate -- check, check, check. Of course some development is needed, but nothing major. He's a naive rookie making a big jump up from Allsvenskan to the SEL defending champions, without the benefit of starting the regular season with them. It's going to take some time for him to adjust to a much higher level, solve problems, find a good fit in the lineup, mesh with linemates/D. He might not have been the first winger called up if he'd started the year in GR, but he might have been by January. Just enjoy the ride and stop worrying.

I mean it is a discussion forum, so not really sure what you expect. Just don't talk about someone unless we only have glowing remarks or something?

The post you quoted far more meaningfully discusses what is happening with MBN than "boxscore look bad" though.

Except he is calling out anyone who says anything negative, by saying nothing is wrong, just enjoy the ride. Just because we are fans of a team or player, doesn't mean we can only say good things about them. MBN is far from having an amazing season so far, and it is perfectly acceptable to have concerns about him or any player for that matter. Not sure if you meant me with the boxscore thing, but I was questioning what I saw in DRW preseason, not his performance in Sweden so far.

You've got a point. I didn't intend to come down hard on those with legitimate doubts about MBN and I don't think I did, but maybe it came across that way. I have an issue with basing those doubts strictly on point production early in the season, and I also disagree with any skating concerns. Those were the only negative points mentioned in previous posts. But it's always open for discussion, I doubt anything I wrote would discourage people from disagreeing, which is great. By the same token, why would anyone take issue with someone so optimistic about a prospect that they advise people to enjoy the ride? If people want to waste their time looking for reasons to be disappointed or just negative, I'm sure they'll find them.

While I would agree with the bolded it's just pretty lackluster discussion when all that's being looked at is the production. Like.. he's been playing well lately. Getting chances. Adjusting to the league.

Skellefteå is not going to have the league's worst PDO forever. MBN isn't going to have an on-ice sh% of 6% all season.
