Yep 1/3 - 1/2 of those young guys will likely never amount to much for the Flames.

While I agree that Sieloff and Kanzig may have been optimistically reaching a bit, there's no reason to believe Klimchuk, Granlund, Reinhart, Cundari, and Wotherspoon won't be given every chance to eventually fill suitable roles with the big club. I really hope all the Jankowski haters end up having to mange on some crow.. Lol ;)

Lots of posters think Janko has to be good by now... We drafted him when he was in high school with no pro experience. We knew we needed to go in a rebuild and that he would be a long term project.

I still would have wanted to have Maatta, but there's nothing that a Flames' fan can do but be patient.

I like that a lot actually. Aside from the trading Sven part, but I can understand your thought process behind that move.

Cundari + 34th is a lot to give up for a third liner in Jimmy Hayes though IMO.

Thanks. I overpaid for Hayes a bit because I doubt Talon is looking to trade him, and IMO wouldn't part with him unless it was a bit of an over payment. I don't mind overpaying a little for him because he brings some elements we absolutely need, plus acquiring him would make us a shoe in for his brother if he goes UFA.

I'd be happy to pay less though if possible. ;)

Would rather keep Cundari + 34th and move Colborne to 3rd line RW, I'd also switch Glencross and Gaudreau, because I think Glencross can be effective in a bottom-six role whereas Gaudreau cannot.

I think our top 3 lines are interchangeable as far as the line numbering. I think Gaudreau would be best served playing with Monahan, but I agree, Colborne should be a winger in the NHL. He was extremely effective there and can focus more on his offence. I really liked him and Money last year, and I think Gaudreau would be a perfect compliment to that line.

Fixed my original post (#1) with cap involved. Still have 16m to spare.

I am wondering if we could package Byron to the Bruins who need speed. Byron deserves more playing time and I think he could play on the 3rd/4th line on their team plus the PK as well. Bruins can send us back Marchand, who looks like the odd man out over there as well.

Didn't Cammy decline that value in a contract. Doubt he re-signs. I really think Sven and Guadreau will be in our opening lineup, especially Sven. I'd like Tspoon in the AHL for another year. I'd also like a little change from last year. This is pretty much the same roster.

Rumor I read was he turned down roughly $12 million over 3 years.

If true, I could see him changing his mind if they add $1 million per year, especially if they add another year to make it $20 million over 4 years.

Who knows though.

Friedman was just on the Fan recently saying Treliving and Cammalleri are beginning negotiations and speculated that Cammalleri is a family man, and would understand why he'd like to remain in Calgary.

It was rumoured Burke offered Cammy 3 years, 12M - which you can understand why he turned it down.

Wotherspoon could benefit from top 4 minutes at the NHL level or top 2 minutes at the AHL level. I personally think he'll be ready for top 4 minutes in the NHL, but wouldn't be surprised (or upset) if he was kept in the AHL. I'd love to see Treliving make building a winning culture at the AHL level a priority.

I don't see any reason to overpay for Cammy at this point. He is an effective second-line winger but he's also small and over 30. In an ideal situation, I wouldn't sign him for more than three years at 3.2 million per.

Regardless of Cammy's size, that's a non factor. He's a goal scorer and that is a valuable commodity to any team. His biggest issue is his health, his size has no negative bearings on his game and he is built like an Ox.

Woof. Say goodbye to Cammy then if you think you'll get him for 3.2. He'll very easily get 4.5+ on the open market. Besides, it's not really overpaying if we need to reach the floor.

No doubt. I'd gladly give Cammy 11 or 12 million over 2 yrs.. I have a feeling he'll want term over $$, but I think it's unlikely he'll see more than 4.5 on the market if the contract is +3 years. 2 years at 5.5-6 per will force him to earn the contract he wants to close out his career on.

My guess is that 3 years is the minimum term Cammaleri's looking at with an average of 4.5m/year which is acceptable.
I'd like to see a 3 year/4.3m cap hit or a 4 year, 3.8m cap hit.

I like Cammalleri but I don't want to see him here for longer than 4 seasons.

For Cammy's contract, I'd be willing to up it from the 3 year x 4m to 4 year x 4.5m. Probably the max I'd go.

Fair deal and all, but he'd undoubtedly get at least that on the open market, and would likely be inclined to earn the same $$ on an actual contender.. kinda defeats the purpose; if we're hoping to keep him, it'll cost 5-5.5 per minimum if the contract is +3 years (or an overpayment of 1/2 mill per year), and 5.5 + per for one or two.. Frankly, as a team hovering around the cap floor, an extra million or whatever shouldn't be enough of a factor for the next 3 years to let someone of Cammy's caliber just walk..
