Gusev plays different hockey than most NHL coaches are used to, and NHL coaches usually hate what they don't understand...
Cmon. Gusev is slow and well below average in puck battles. He plays very well with his stick but if he is under physical forecheck he barely can survive. I like player a lot and I have nothing against him, he just isnt there in some aspects of the game. I believe he can produce on NHL level, but gms and coaches should want to find specific players for him and live with his weak sides. Un-ly he is Russian player and GMs in NHL are not so toleranted with this type of Russian players. I would say they are not so toleranted with this type of Euro players overall.

Lucky us, Gritsyuk is waay better skater with much better puck protection and overall puck battling. He is returning to the D zone and can start really fast with his first steps. So even with less creativity and stick skills(he is good in this aspects, its just Gusev who is top in this aspects) he still has much more chances to be better regular top-6 NHLer who will survive against top-6 NHLers.

Nah, he just wasn't that good an NHL player. Now he did get unlucky that that second season was the COVID season where there weren't practices; Gusev seems like a really precise player and not having those to work on his game seemed to really affect him. But it's hard to imagine a player like Gusev succeeding in the NHL playoffs - not enough time and space for his game.

I will add that IIRC, the Gusevs had a baby right before the 20-21 season and that likely contributed to his drop in play that season.

I remember thinking that his wife probably really wanted to go home lol.

Goose was a real boon to our power play in 19-20, particularly at the end. Very fun. I was hopeful that would continue in the next season but, alas, it did not.

Buf 20-21 was a bizarre misery factory of a season, I can’t see any player outside of a rookie not struggling to get through it.

I have his dumb f***ing jersey too lol.

Had to go back a page to find this thread.

Which is in line with his stretch of play. Only 1 goal and 2 assists in his last 10 gp's. 0-1-1 in his last 5 gp's.

Needs a heater.

You may be biased against his nationality

It's entirely possible.

Where is the cutoff where production wouldn’t mean he is not very good?

Top 10? Top 20? Top 50?

If he gets hot for 3 games does that change him to a superstar? Why is this cold streak meaningful and his other games don’t mean as much?

No it doesn't. But consistency would be nice.

Long stretches of no production in a weak league doesn't exactly scream NHL'er.

Zero goals and 1 assist in his last 10.

Currently 8th on the team in goals.

Are there any thoughts on the why for this?

Like I said, I believe he started on the top line and then got sent down to the middle six. That being said, putting up no points in a game against a bottom-feeder team where his team scored 7 goals is concerning.

One game is not much of an indicator. But a 10 game stretch of zero goals and 1 points does make me wonder whats up.

If we are hoping he can come in and make an impact on our 3rd line as we head towards the playoffs, I'd like to see him produce something while playing mid 6 in the KHL.

I think it's unlikely his talent evaporated. It's more likely it's something else ranging from illness, injury, personal/family issues, to telling them he's coming to the NHL next season and the team ostracizing him. Might b a very cold streak but if so he's still the same player he was a month ago even if something is going wrong right now.

I'm not thinking he's all of a sudden become a no talent player.

But we also hope to see him continue to progress, not stagnate, or hit a slump like this.

Especially if the cause is merely that he is no longer on the top line/top pp.

He is doing great today. I didnt watch him lately too.

He was cold in the late autumn/december before. May be he is now in active divorce process, he started to be hot in january/fabruary in previous seasons. Yes he isnt Kaprizov level but he is talented and in the same time streaky scoring forward. You can see how guys like Palmieri or even Meier are very streaky in their game in NHL as examples. Different levels - same trends.

So please, dont listen people who doesnt watch him and trying to analyze him by his nationality or by his producing in the game where his team scores or didnt scores or by another strange metrics. You can even dont listen to me, there are guys who is watching him like @Hisch13r.

Weak league is EIHL. KHL is the second strong league after NHL. Don't wind up the fans of the Devil's Club with your nonsense.
EIHL isn't even weak, it's piss poor. Smelly rinks, crumbling facilities, absolutely nobody of note involved. A true waste of resources in a country that will never embrace the sport.

Not sure what that's got to do with the KHL being inferior to what it used to be though.

Still extremely concerning that Gritsyuk is ice cold.
