He just wants the best player in the draft. That’s very likely Schaefer
You do that to trade another defensive prospect, a trade you’ll likely lose, and go another draft with no elite forward prospect.

Just draft a forward this year, McKenna next year and pray to god Kaprizov actually wants to come here.

So what exactly was the rationale for putting Brodie on 1st line D? It should never happen again.

This is honestly a worse era than the 99 - 07 period. (Excluding 02).

We are getting dunked on season in and season out.

3rd worst in 23.
2nd worst in 24.
Probably 2nd worst again in 25.

I know prospects take time but I'm starting to lose my mind watching the franchise that I've loved for 30 years play like this.

Its also far less entertaining to watch

Amonte, Zhamnov, Nylander, Sullivan, Daze, Calder, Arnason, Bell, Thibault, Vrbata > Bedard + one or two other guys worth damn

Hell our vet acquistions then > Davidson's

I dont see any Gilmour, Housley, Berezin, etc pickups who can play

We dont even have any "Hey this journeyman at least is looking part" types like Dempsey or McLean

They just need to take whoever they think BPA is. It’s easy to say you can’t take Schaefer because you have Korch/Rinzel/Vlasic/Levshunov but 3 of those are not established nhl players. They just need talent right now. Figure out the rest later.

Regardless the odds are they’ll end up with a forward

Hawks won 3 in and 4/6 and were playing decent hockey giving up an average of 2.5GA

Seth returns and they’ve now lost 4 in a row and look absolutely terrible giving up 19 goals in 4 games

Its really hard to envision how we are going to score goals but I just think Schaefer is a step up.

If there is a D you really like take him but need to find a way to add a 3rd 1st and grab a few wingers with Toronto and that pick in that scenario

Also be open to trade especially if a young NHL talent is available, you can build around

We had the forward talent concern the second Bedard was drafted. Two years later, and it’s just as ugly as it was then.

I’m bummed because it’s really impossible to tell what Bedard can be when playing with bums. I have no idea what hi ceiling is because this team is so terrible

I think Hagens is close, but yeah for me Schaefer is BPA right now and I’d be surprised if that changes. A guy like Schaefer helps you everywhere. Easier to score when you control play and he absolutely controls play. Never seen the game flow more through a player than it does with him

Good night for the tank at least. Wins from the Ducks, Sabres, and Canadiens. The Flyers are most likely going to OT too.

I can handle one more shitty tank year after this one as long as it’s our prospects playing and not Brodie/Hall/etc…beyond that there’s something not right happening.

I just want the kids to play together. And for the love of God, can we stop playing Bedard with Brodie or Jones on the ice every f***ing shift? Put the useless veterans together and let them play against the top lines on the other team, and give the kids favorable matchups, and keep them together. Stop trying to find a "balanced" lineup. Put Vlasic with a young D, play them with Bedard's line, and let them play with a ton of offensive zone draws and favorable matchups.

Get Hall the f*** away from Bedard, as well. He is useless. It should be TT there with Bertuzzi.

Stop trying to ice a team that wins, because it's not possible with this collection of stiffs, and focus on what's important. Developing your young core pieces and putting them into positions to succeed.

Every season I had hope that those teams would make the playoffs. I liked Zhamnov. Amonte was my favorite Hawk at the time. Sullivan and Nylander were great secondary scorers. Calder was a mucker who could chip in. Arnason came out of no where and showed promise. There was hope every season and the hockey was decent.

Now, I don't know what the heck I am watching. It's a rip it down to the foundation rebuild with no prospect fully ready to be a full timer except Bedard and the rest are band aids.
