On a side note, I loved Jamie Baker as the color commentator over Drew. Drew complains way too much and it rubs off on Randy. It's been getting worse over the years but this year sets a new record for his whining.

I have to say I agree. I enjoyed the no whining aspect that Jamie Baker brought to the telecast tonight.

I honestly am not bothered by, and rarely notice, Drew whining. Which probably means I am a whiner too.

Personally, I missed Hedican more than Drew. Not that I don't dislike Drew, it's just that Jamie was real good.

It's getting to Pittsburgh levels to be honest. It gives the impression that every game the Sharks are getting screwed by the refs and that's just not the kind of excuse you want to give to fans. Pointing out a few things every now and then is fine, but he whines about the refs all the time and then goes off on other tiny little things like "left his feet" and defending the goalie.

Just got home. Man that was a crazy fun game.

- Noticed Irwin in a really good way even before his two points.
- Stuart wasn't horrible.
- Watching Marleau skate live is one of life's true joys.
- Joe Thornton is awesome.
- Didn't notice Havlat wasn't playing until like half-way through. No excuse for McCarthy to be playing as much as he did, he was horrible, at evens and on the PK. Just not an NHLer. Rather Kearns. But seriously, no reason to sit Havlat for McCarthy if you're interested in winning.
- Nathan Mackinnon is wonderful. Stood out as the best player on the ice after Thornton to me.

Agreed on pretty much all of it. I usually hate on Irwin but he's on his game right now after all those scratched games. Also, you'll find out that Stuart barely played tonight(in comparison) so even if he wasn't noticeable (in a good way) he just wasn't on very much.

I as well agree and on Kearns, I am rather surprised we haven't seen him in any games as of yet. I too do not understand why Havlat was sat last night as he has looked much better as of late and McCarthy brings very little to the table for us.

On Baker; I agree, he was really good. It'd be nice to see him do a few more games.

I agree with basically all of this. I think Colorado is going to have a great time with duchene and McKinnon playing together for years. Both of them are crazy fast and crazy good with their hands. Add landeskog into the mix and damn.

Im also on board with the "wtf were you thinking" sitting havlat and leaving McCarthy on the third line. I understand defensive play is useful but McCarthy is so devoid of offense it really hurts the third lines chances of contributing.

So what's up with marleau!? The guy is playing really really well right now. Fast, playing the body, dekeing and making amazing passes. I hope it's not just because he wants a spot in the Olympics but is instead that he just really really wants a cup this year. If he keeps it up it's going to be glorious. Now if cooch can just get his hands out of his ass and help marleau out that second line will be golden.

Drew and Randy can make me laugh and that counts for a lot

No it doesn't. Each shot is effectively a coin flip. The example you gave, as I said, relies on the intervention of the gameshow host, whose pick is not a coin flip, it is a guaranteed outcome pick.

Each shot has the same odds, whether shooting first, or second, etc.

The only odds that change are the odds of winning after a goal - not the odds of the subsequent shot.

First of all the players aren't clones or androids, so this isn't even true. There is disparity in player's success in the shootouts.

Secondly I wasn't talking about the odds of each individual shot, I was talking about the teams odds of winning.

That's not relevant to the point you tried to make. There is no mathematical basis for players' shootout success.

Secondly I wasn't talking about the odds of each individual shot, I was talking about the teams odds of winning.

You used an example that does not apply. The team's odds of winning are not based on a mathematical difference in situations shooting first and second. There is a slight *measured* difference but there is no mathematical backing for that difference.

Contract year. :sarcasm:

But seriously, he's been absolutely phenomenal for the past dozen games or so. Couture has been resoundingly 'meh', not even considering the lack of goals (which is bad luck to be sure, but he's not playing well either).

Secondly I wasn't talking about the odds of each individual shot, I was talking about the teams odds of winning.

The shots are independent of one another. If team A takes the first shot and scores, that doesn't affect the probability that team B will score on their next shot.

If you are arguing that, psychologically, a player's ability to score (or save) is dependent upon the previous shooter's success, then you would need to present some statistical evidence as you currently have no sound mathematical or psychological principle to stand on.

First time in a few games the team looked "hungry". A bad 12 seconds almost cost them the game but they fought back and got 2 pts. They outshot, outchanced, outhit..pretty much outplayed Colorado. It was good to see.

Yes it was, it was a highly entertaining game to be at!

On a side note, if DW can find a way to pry Tyson Barrie out of Colorado I wouldn't complain.

Tyson Barrie is interesting. He can really skate and move the puck but he's buried in Colorado for some reason. His defense is meh and he's small but I think if insulated with a defensive defenseman...he would thrive here.

I watched him play for Kelowna quite a bit and yes, he's one of those d-men that if you can find him a partner that can cover for him a bit he could seriously thrive. He's a great skater, has great hands, vision, puck moving abilities and offensive instincts. Unfortunately, even though he does seem kinda buried in Col. I'm pretty sure Roy likes him a lot.
