Havlat probably gave Todd a not so happy look when told he'd be on the 4th line. Tmac said OK, sit.

Addition by subtraction.

And then Couture probably said "I refuse to score a goal unless Jumbo and Patty take less money than me on their next contracts." It's been an on-going negotiation.

I get the feeling Hannan isn't completely healthy and Havlat isn't either. a 75% Havlat is better than John McCarthy.

I'm not at all a fan of McCarthy as the 3rd line center but Havlat has been more or less useless unless he's skating with Marleau and Couture and that makes it kinda hard for the coaches to find a place for him in the lineup if they need / want to change things up.

I have no idea what they're going to do going forward if they don't want use him on the 'shutdown' line.

I watched him play for Kelowna quite a bit and yes, he's one of those d-men that if you can find him a partner that can cover for him a bit he could seriously thrive. He's a great skater, has great hands, vision, puck moving abilities and offensive instincts. Unfortunately, even though he does seem kinda buried in Col. I'm pretty sure Roy likes him a lot.

I like him a lot too, maybe they'd trade him to fill another hole since they have Stefan Elliott in the minors?

Yeah it sucks. Havlat needs players that can create space for him and do all the heavy lifting. He's essentially a top 6 or bust type guy at this point.

You guys understand with Pavelski on the 1st line Todd wanted a natural center to play right.

McCarthy isn't in there to score 50 goals, he there to take face offs and PK.

I'm pretty sure their whole hole is their defense. They only have 3 competent guys right now in Barrie, Johnson, and Hejda. So I don't really see them giving up Barrie.

Then DW laughed hung up the phone and is now finishing up the details on a trade sending him to Edmonton for Hall.

I'm sure Oiler fans would be stoked about getting player who actually elevates his game in Edmonton.

There is a lot more to being a bottom 6 player than faceoffs and PK (which he's bad at anyway). His line was a garbage fire.

A natural center that hadn't played there in the pros while they did have two natural centers on the third line in James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins. I agree with you on why McCarthy is in there with regards to the PK and defensive help but it's not face-offs that they had him in there for and considering who was in the lineup over Havlat, I'd have to question the decisions made. It's not like Havlat was poor or that any of the guys in deserved it more than Havlat.
