We'll use the sticked Around the League thread, and update the title with any major moves.

This thread is just for Leafs stuff.

Thanks. I thought that was the case but then saw the Flyer trade in this fantasy thread but not in the League one.

I'm not happy as of now. I like the fact he wont trade youth for quick fixes, but the guy has to realize and there is a desperate need for a #1 centre. He has to work the phones and talk to GM's and grab a big strong playmaker in the middle. Colorado is a team that has depth there and Ryan O'Reilly still hasnt signed so,I would be working on either trying to pry ROR out of there or get one of the other 2, Stasny or Duschene. There has to be some action here and being patient is a good thing sometimes but now is the time to make a move and get what the team needs very badly.

Jamie Benn would be the ideal target. 23 ~60-70 point C who is big, strong and plays all situations. He is essentially a canadian Sundin who is more physical.

want to see quotes from nonis and caryle via arash madani twitter?

for example:
Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani 59m
Nonis said they're working on "wrinkles" with the Franson contract. Sounds like it's because of the shortened season. #Leafs

Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani
Nonis says the #Leafs are likely done with free agent signings for now.

Nonis: "I like our depth at D." #Leafs

Nonis: "Morgan Rielly will be given a chance." #Leafs

Yeah we'll probably get some confused people talking about other teams and their news in this thread, but it'd be better if we kept it all separate. There's going to be a ton of Leaf related trade discussions, so we'll need this entire thread dedicated to that.

It would be nice if there were a locked sticky thread until the season starts where mods could just add other Teams moves so it's easy to find.

Nonis: "We're going to be young again. You're going to see mistakes from young players."

The only issue I would have with our goaltending is our experience... We do have quality goaltenders."

There's only going to be a change in goal if we can upgrade... if we don't take away young players from our reserve list." #Leafs

reserve list is what?
gardiner reilly 1st rounders ??

If there's a rash of moves, we may do that, but we've been trying to cut down on the amount of stickied threads we have. It shouldn't be too difficult to navigate it for the time being. We could always update the first post with any new moves as well.

Sounds like Burke all over again, except now you have a Burke whose reluctant to trade.....:help:

I understand. I'll keep more of an eye on the main board.

I know people will call me crazy, but give Tim Connolly a second chance in the top 6. He has offensive upside and does nothing for us playing on the 3rd and 4th line, especially as a winger.

Mottau is expected to sign a one-year, two-way deal that will see him earn $850,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level.

Sounds like Nonis might try to clear out a lot of the dead weight to give the kids a shot (i.e. Connolly, Lombardi, Komisarek, maybe MacArthur?).

I really think he's planning on a top 3 pick, without saying it outright. What else can he mean by "we're going to be young again"? If this is the plan, I'd like to see Nonis go out and pick up another young goaltender with high upside, something similar to what Tampa did with Lindback. Maybe someone like Bernier, Bishop, Enroth, etc.

I know most people are probably thinking why another young goalie? I just have doubts about the ones we have in the system right now. It would be nice to have someone who has been in an NHL back up role the last couple of years and ready to contend for a number one spot. We really don't have this in guys like Scrivens, Rynnas and Owuya. I'm skeptical that any of these goalies will be the answer in T.O.

He means "young again" like the past few years.

No GM plans for a top 3 pick.

Not only do i feel like the quote was directed towards just the goaltending, he means young as in he wont be dealing youth for vets. The team is young as is and will remain within its age group. You may see deals for 22-23 year olds, but he wont be dealing 22-23 your olds for 33-34 year olds (cough Luongo cough)

if we get a top 6 draft pick that glaring hole is gone and we dont need to give up squat.

To me young again meant not trading for older players to fill our holes. Doesn't mean we are blowing it up. Pretty much anyone under 30 could still be considered 'young'.

Someone like Statsny could be a 'young' center. Someone like Halak could be a 'young' goalie.

Expecting more people in the 24-30 range would be my guess.

Yeah I can see that. Honestly I hope Nonis and Carlyle let the young guys get their opportunities this season. Would be nice to see what we have in guys like Frattin, Kadri, Reimer, etc. rather than playing a bunch of guys that will just be gone next year. Seems like it would be the best thing for the team in the long term.

?

Young again? What the hell does that mean? Since when were the Leafs old? Weren't they one of the younger NHL teams? These quotes scream of BS.

Didn't the Leafs pick 5th overall with their quality goaltending?

It's going to be getting Aki Berg at the trade deadline all over again. Doesn't AA know hockey?
