If the season is cancelled, when does the NHL do the lottery thingy? They should get it over with ASAP to appease my anxiousness.

If there's no season, any urgency to get a new CBA done is gone and no draft without a new CBA.

So it will be a while.

Seth Jones is the clear #1 pick at this stage in time for me, Franchise D potential and probably NHL ready next year already. Will even be better in 2 or 3 years time. Potential through the roof.

More about top prospects playing today, noticed Nichuskin and really noticed Seth Jones, not so much Lindholm and Mackinnon.

Really? I noticed Lindholm quite a bit actually.

Didn't notice him at all in the gold medal game and I made a point to watch him.

He had one little play that would have been a highlight goal had it worked, but he was stopped by the USA D man. Might have been Jones.

what does anyone think about Nichushkin, I say if we have a top 10 pick and Mackinnon, Barkov, Jones, Drouin, and Monohan are gone he's the pick.

Check my August posts, had him very highly then, not surprised today, he was my favourite comrade prospect of the last 2 years.

Burke don't do Europeans, we'll be drafting a North American

Sedins and Burke say "hi"

I know what Burke says about drafting Martians, but it's been a long time since he's drafted a Russian. I have my doubts as to whether he takes Nichuskin. I would imagine he is frothing at the mouth for a shot at Jones, McKinnon or Monahan.

Right now, I see Nichuskin in the 7-10 range with Shinkaruk, Ristolainen, and Pulock. However, I could see him falling out of the top 10.

MacK
Jones
Barkov
Drouin
Lindholm
Monahan
Ristolainen
Shinkaruk
Nichushkin
Pulock

Is my top 10 right now. You can't ignore the STELLAR tournament Ristolainen had. He's put himself ahead of every D-man NOT named Jones with his all-around game and burgeoning skill-set.

Nichushkin is a slightly worse Paajarvi clone, completely useless if he does not get the time to pick up speed.

But Nate is a potential franchise center with potential through the roof. Hell I think Drouin has massive potential and will play center IMO.

I'd definitely take Mack before him and maybe even Drouin

I wanted Drouin to drop to the mid range from the get go because I knew of his talent but god damn it his stock went up high.

With a season happening now I am very curious on who we are going to scout as there are a lot of diamond in the rough in this draft, especially being forward stacked draft.

I like Mackinnon, he as with Rielly to a degree were never really given a chance to shine in this tourney due to the returnees from last year that took up valuable top 6, top 4 roster spots. I don't think you can penalize him for this. But on the other hand it would be not prudent to ignore Seth Jones as the tournament wore on, every game he got better. He played a key role as one of the top 3 USA D men in this tourney. He made an impact. No other draft year player was as instrumental as Seth. The thought of him playing in this tournament next year is scary since he already has shown so much. Mackinnon and Drouin are great prospects in their own rights, but in terms of having a franchise changing player, no one compares with Seth Jones. Imagine the kid in 3 years? Scouts and Gm's drool.

Things get interesting if we get Luongo. I see us placing 9th last in which case I say we grab Curtis Lazar

If we're well outside the top 10 and Nichushkin slides, I could see Burke making an exception. Aside from being Russian, Nichushkin is very much Burke's type of player.

Interesting that with the new CBA, all 14 non playoff teams have a chance at 1st overall.

But consider the tournament Drouin had as well when he was given a chance. I guess my point was I'd rather draft a franchise C than D. Especially for our situation.

I was surprised his stock wasn't way up after how he ended last season than playoffs. Everyone credited Nate when Drouin was really just as good.

Good to see him get recognition now
