We also struggle against the trap because our offense is more of a committee effort, and losing Z-bad completely changes the play style. I mean this happened last year when he had the chip on his ankle.

Also, the whole team played like **** tonight. Yes, Dallas had way more control of the game, but they didn't look fantastic either. The Rangers a few minutes and one screened enormous ass shot from not even having a point.

Best thing to do against these types of teams is stop playing pretty east west hockey and start playing greasy. They did more of that in the third and Dallas turtled just enough that we started winning some neutral zone back from them. For two periods they owned us 200 feet and along the boards. Once they gained our zone they looked like the LA Kings' death by a thousand point shot needles.

It's not that I don't agree. I've been advocating for a more aggressive North-South style team for years, but I stopped talking about it because it gets reduced to #tufnEZz

You break the trap by either skating like lightning through it before it solidifies or smashing your way through it.

The Rangers are not built for the smash method, and with out Z-bad, it's easier to stifle the current East-West style.

Not sure what this means.
He hasn't scored in the shootout or as a penalty shot since that season. 3 seasons. Not only did his usage drop off because his ability drop off was clear, but he also botched any opportunity that he did get.

Yeah, the tying goal by Nash was not poetry, but it was an honourable way to score, been done a gazillion times. I found it beautiful because beauty was relative in this game. There were very few occasions where the Rangers timed a shot with some obfuscating screening of the goalie hijinks this game. It was lucky but no more so than some Stanley Cup winning goals have been, to underline the point. I loved Nash's game. He looked almost single-handedly interested in doing something of worth tonight in terms of getting to the net. Buch, Zucc were noticeable, but Nash deserved accolades tonight. Pavelec we already know about.
I was surprised when Lehtinen shut the door so well when the Rangers were mounting pressure in the third.

There's been plenty of times where we deserved points but didn't get them. Today we got a point we didn't deserve. It happens. I won't lose any sleep over it.

There is absolutely no excuse for Nash being thrown down not being called, it's games like this that make me think certain games are helped to go a certain way because of betting and Vegas and all that shit.

Really could've used Mika tonight. DD was completely useless. When Kreider isn't in beast mode that line is beyond ineffective without Mika.

Anyone else notice that play early in the 3rd someone hit Kreider streaking down the left wing and he had the step on the D to power to the net but instead dumped it off to DD in the high slot who fumbled the puck? Kreider has to know his situation there and just lower his shoulder and power to the net, he probably would've had one of his patented goals sweeping across the front of the net if he took a few more strides with the puck.

I mean there is no question the ice is often “tilted”, but it hasn’t more to do with ratings than pure fraud for gambling purposes.

They do it to keep it “exciting”, so the games aren’t fixed, but they are definitely tilted

Not sure if anyone noticed, but we're only four points back for the division lead.

And we just overtook the Pens with the point we got

The last time David Desharnais scored a shootout goal was the 2014-15 season. Since then he has been 0 for 5. Good freakin' choice to put out there you moron.

He had 3 total attempts in the 2015-16 season and missed them all.

1 attempt all of last year and missed.

Was already 0 for 1 this year.

There is a reason that his old team stopped using him entirely and he hasn't been good at it here either. His skills in the shootout from half a decade ago means nothing.

He's due.

Do we have someone besides Zucc who shoots at 40%?

Zucc's career % is 50%. I'm a little surprised Nash took no penalties last season?

My choice for Shootout crew currently would probably be Zucc, Buch and Nash.

Shattenkirk was 0/2 last season.

Rick Nash’s shootout goals have dwindled a bit too. He’s had a goose egg [zero %] in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Yes he’s 100% this year on one shot, but it wasn’t a dead giveaway to let McLaren take the shot given performance in recent years.

See it’s reactions like that which make me think* a lot of you just run your finger down the stat blog and see Rick has a high career shootout percentage therefore he was the right call.

*100% certain

How much can something like your shootout skills drop off? I feel bad for DD, everyone seems to dislike him so much.
So do you think it is a fluke that Montreal chose to use him less for the past 2 seasons, and that every opportunity that he was presented with in spite of his diminished usage, both in Montreal and here in New York, he has proven his inability to be as good as he once was?

I'll rephrase

There is literally not a single player on the current roster who is not injured, who has a better shot than Nash on the PS, outside of Zucc and Buch. That is why I put Nash there.

If you feel you have something to contribute, contribute, don't just bitch at others for making a suggestion.

Dallas screwed us by playing as a really long team, ie a long distance between their Ds dropping back early and deep and forward hanging high up ice. When we made those cross ice passes our guys had Ds in front of them instead of next to them.

Playing the way Dallas did, you really open yourself up in the neutral zone and a good center would have had an Autobahn in front of him driving the puck up ice. But we really missed Ziba last night.

We tried to go long and when Dallas Ds won the puck their forwards had zero pressure on them in the neutral zone. We can blame AV for not adjusting, but OTOH without Ziba we are weak down the middle and it showed more than anything.

Gained a point in standings, lost 2 that don't matter in the chase for a PO spot.

I usually don't use extreme adjectives but McD was beyond bad last night. Seems like he's been on ice for every Dallas high danger opportunity and then some.

Also hated it when Sam mentioned that Ruff has done an "outstanding " job as a defensive assistant. Based on what???

Well, and I'm sure you obviously know this, that's why you don't create a defensive system predicated on overloading, constant switching, and collapsing. Dallas beat us all over the ice last night for 200 feet, whether it were on zone entries where our guys were gassed on the backcheck, or in the offensive zone when our forwards yielded 20 feet of ice to the dmen to blast away.

Anyone pick up Vally on the post-game interview where he highlighted that specific issue? Both the Honka and Severson goals were scored in nearly identical fashions and were a result of the team being too overloaded down low, and the other team realizing how dangerous their weak-side threat was. This is a great strategy for video game defense, but not real life. Pressuring and counterattacking is how you win today. Like Reggie said, aggressive north-south hockey from the d-zone through the neutral zone. Once we get into the offensive zone, let them have free reign because they've shown themselves to be a brilliant offensive team that can stretch the zone laterally and wreak havoc on defenses. They're 7th in xGF for a reason, and that model isn't even factoring in how much puck movement occurs before we shoot.

Did Vesey play? I don't recall his name being mentioned even once. Seriously. At least I saw Kreids screw up that play that Glen Sathers cigar mentioned. Yeah, if he wanted it bad enough, that is what he could've/should've done. Pisses me off. Yeah smart Kreids (disdain) give it up to a "gonna do nothing with it" DD. YOU had a much better chance you idiot.

Believe it or not......this WON'T be our last clunker for the season.
Pittsburgh lost and almost got shutout by Colorado. Happens.
The Caps just barely beat us (or did we beat ourselves?)the other night........yet the Almighty HOME Islanders made the Caps look like an ahl team. This is a very good division, yet unpredictable.
This league is nuts, and I believe the same as mentioned above somewhere. Refs get a daily memo on keeping games close and exciting.
