Pool: 11th Annual Statsy's WJC Pool

Almost impossible for things to have gone worse for me today. I'll update this tomorrow morning. Right now I'm going to bed to end this horrendously brutal day.

A wild first day in this year's WJC sees a pair of massive upsets and Sweden with a real beat down of Austria that propels C4G's heavily Swedish flavoured team into a monster 13 point day. Khabby and FightingSioux also with impressive double digit days to open the pool. The guys in the bottom of the pool didn't fair quite as well, with GL, Statsy and Tom with a combined total of 6 points. Ouch!

It's another full day ahead with four games on the slate including Czechia with a chance to pad some stats against Austria, and Finland looking to make up for a lackluster opening game with a better effort vs Slovakia.

Will Dylan Guenther's call-out of players going all 'Michigan' going to affect and divide the Canada locker room? Rough first day for some of our teams but after being tourney favourites and seeing that performance and now what seems like dissension worries me.

Before I start the tabulation for Day 2, please note that I have added a point to FightingSioux's total from the first day for a missing assist to Suchanek. Looks like I picked a good year to start adding goalie assists as Suchanek also recorded a pair of assists today. He looks like the early steal of the draft with 2 wins, a shutout, and three goalie assists! Who saw that coming? :amazed:

I was just about to ask, When did we start including goalie assists? I might of won some more of these back in previous years if we did that. ;)

FightingSioux continues a red hot start with 12 points today to follow 11 from yesterday. Sitting with 2 wins, a shutout and a remarkable 3 assists, Pavel Suchanek's production alone is better than half of the entries in our pool at the moment! Canada4Gold had another strong outing as well, and he too was carried by a goaltender doing impressive things. Carl Lindbom has two wins and a pair of shutouts in as many days. However, the rest of his Swede heavy team went silent today and have now used up their two easy games, so it may be a tougher slog the rest of the way. Pretty much everyone else in the pool had a quiet day with some low game scores and Canada and the US not in action. Khabby picked up just a single assist, but that was good enough to keep him a point ahead of WTK. Christien picked up 3 helpers from his Czech players to hit 8 points. The rest of the entrants in the pool are currently... I'm not going to sugarcoat this... just absolutely sucking at the moment. It may ALREADY be too late to win this pool for them, but they need to pick it up to still have a chance at a podium finish.

Here are today's point totals:
FightingSioux- 12 pts
Canada4Gold- 6 pts
WeThreeKings- 3 pts
Christien- 3 pts
GrandLarseny- 2 pts
Statsy- 2 pts
Tomsburninghat- 2 pts

Connor Bedard's tremendous 7 point game is the story of Day 3. It singlehandedly put GrandLarseny back in contention for a top three finish. However, FightingSioux fired off another big day to stretch his total to an impressive 31 points, better than 10 per day to this point! Canada4Gold remains in second but with only Zellweger's three helpers today, the gap has widened. WTK had a decent 6 points to take third. Statsy and Tom remain in single digits and are running out of runway.

Canada feasted on a tired German team today and they won't go hungry tomorrow against a terrible Austrian team either. Back to a full slate of four games as well, so there should be plenty of points on the board. I won't have time to update tomorrow as I'll be watching the four games then going straight to work... in zombie mode!

FightingSioux- 8 pts
WeThreeKings- 6 pts
Statsy- 5 pts
Tomsburninghat- 4 pts

Think I might have lost Honzek.. which sucks, as I was expecting him to get some points as Slovakia faces weaker competition.

If you had Canada in your pool yesterday, it was a good day for you. It is simply not possible to say anything about this tournament without bringing up the Connor Bedard show. The things he's doing are unbelievable! Unfortunately for GrandLarseny, Bedard is the ONLY one doing anything on that team, accounting for fully two thirds of GL's scoring. The big move on this day was actually Khabby, who had a monster day with 15 points! He got contributions from all throughout his lineup including what could be the only points contributed by Ben Gaudreau (but at least it was a shutout). In one day, Khabby more than doubles his point total, moving into third spot. One point ahead of Khabby is Canada4Gold, who hits the 30 point mark and gains some ground on FightingSioux who finally cooled off on Day 4. Also with a double digit pickup is Christien, who also got a well balanced attack from his players. Statsy had his first productive day, picking up 9 points, as his bold selection of Logan Stankoven over Shane Wright with the number two pick has started to pay dividends. Tomsburninghat just can't seem to get untracked with another slow day. Not much action on Day 5 with just a pair of games featuring the four teams with the fewest players picked in our pool.

Today's Totals:

Khabby- 15 pts
Christien- 11 pts
Statsy- 9 pts
Canada4Gold- 7 pts
GrandLarseny- 7 pts

FightingSioux- 4 pts
Tomsburninghat- 4 pts

Quiet day as expected, but there was still some movement in the standings. GrandLarseny made the most of the thin schedule with a pair of points from Filip Mesar to go with the first of the tournament for Bennet Rossmy. The three points are good enough to help jump into 5th place past Christien. WeThreeKings gets a goal from Simon Nemec and a helper from Vinzenz Rohrer, as Austria finally end their scoring drought. The points keep WTK a single point above GL and four back of Khabby for third. Tomsburninghat picks up a helper from Dalibor Dvorsky and honestly, any point Tom can pick up right now is a good one. Everyone else was shutout today, but the final day of action from the preliminary round sees some big match-ups and hopefully lots of scoring!

Today's Totals:

GrandLarseny- 3 pts
WeThreeKings- 2 pts
Tomsburninghat- 1pt
Canada4Gold- 0 pts
Christien- 0 pts
FightingSioux- 0 pts
Khabby- 0 pts
Statsy- 0 pts

I think my last 2 forwards totals are wrong. Oskar Petterson should be 1+2(2 points more), and Simon Robertsson should be 1+1(1 point less). Which would increase my total by net 1.

K, I’ll check it out tomorrow. Just starting work at the moment.

Speaking of terrible, how does Brennan Othmann play on the top line and on a powerplay that’s hitting at about a 70% success rate, and yet still has just one measly point on the team’s 23 goals?

People have been dumping on Fantilli, but he’s actually been much more productive.

Geez, Brennan, pick it up man!

Pls no he's all I've got. My team's built like the Oilers lol
My team in 2016 had Puljujarvi scoring 75% of my points. I feel your pain.

The preliminary round is now in the books! FightingSioux retains top spot after a solid 7 point day. The big story, however, is GrandLarseny's charge up the standings, led by the incomparable Connor Bedard. GL actually got contributions from up and down the lineup yesterday and no longer looks like a one man army. The pool high 13 points move GL into second place with 37 points, well within striking distance of first. Khabby holds on to third, but Canada4Gold seems to have a badly stagnating lineup that is heavy on Swedes that have no more games left against Austria. Statsy's team seems to be coming along nicely as his big 9 point day allows him to jump Christien into 6th place. Tomsburninghat continues to be witnessing a horror show as he had the lowest daily total once again. He is on pace for a record worst pool total, jointly held by Statsy and Christien of 28 points set in 2019. Yes, Tom is out to prove that Connor Bedard isn't the only one that can shatter records!

The Quarterfinals go tomorrow where we really separate the contenders from the pretenders. The Sweden vs Finland match-up looks like a particularly crucial turning point in this pool for many. Hoping for some great games!

Yesterday's Totals:

GrandLarseny- 13 pts
Statsy- 9 pts
FightingSioux- 7 pts
WeThreeKings- 7pts
Khabby- 6 pts
Christien- 5 pts
Canada4Gold- 3 pts
Tomsburninghat- 2 pts

I can't believe what's happening to my team...did anyone else believe Lysell (21st overall) would have 0 pts and Ohgren (19th overall) only 1? And how about Lambert (30th overall) with only 1 pt?

Bedard gets 2 pts every period...

Lysell I'm surprised by.. Ohgren a little bit.. not at all by Lambert. Dude's best showing in his career is gonna be a 16 year old WJC.
